If you think it difficult to find the time to go to the gym (体育馆), here’s some good news. Simply standing up for three hours a day is as good for you as running ten marathons (马拉松) a year, an expert has said. Dr Mike Loosemore says that even small amounts of exercise can make a difference to health.
The government advises that people spend half an hour a day, five days a week doing exercise. But Dr Loosemore said only 7% of the men and 4% of the women follow the advice. More than a quarter of adults fail to exercise for just half an hour a week, making Britain one of the least active countries in the world.
Speaking on BBC 4’s “Today” program, he said, “The message I want to try to pass is that small amounts of physical (体力的) activity are doing you a lot of good — even just standing up is good. If you stand up and work standing up, which I do, three hours a day, five days a week, that would be tantamount to running ten marathons a year.”
Dr Loosemore said that people were "completely wrong" to think that small changes, such as standing up more, are meaningless. "It can improve their health, reduce (降低) the risk of heart problems, and make them thinner," he said.

Many people’s closest experience with wild animals is at the zoo. It’s a place where we can see and learn about animals. It’s really fun and educational for us. However, is it the best place for animals to live in?
In the past, people could only see dead animals in museums. But later, animals were caught alive by explorers (探险家). They put them in small zoos called menageries and showed them to the public. Back then, people didn’t care much about how animals were treated.
But now, zoos and wildlife parks have changed a lot. People try to make zoos more like their natural homes. They build bigger places, and try to make the environment as close to the nature as possible.
Some people think it’s not right to keep animals in zoos just for our entertainment (娱乐). But zoos say they are trying to help animals by teaching us about protecting them. And now, zoos that are run well also help to support and pay for programs that protect animals.
Zoos help to save animals that are in danger of disappearing because of climate (气候) change. Robert Young, an expert on protecting animals, says that zoos are important because they keep many animals from going extinct. Some zoos have special programs to help animals have babies so they don’t die out.
Although people still talk about whether having zoos is good or not, there are new ways to learn about wild animals. For example, we can use the VR (虚拟现实) technology. Many zoo experts believe it will be possible to walk through a group of elephants in the Serengeti very soon.

I’m sorry to hear that you are having difficulty adapting to life in middle school. In your letter you said that you always felt lonely because of having few friends. I think it is time to join some clubs in the school. You can make more friends who share the same interest with you by doing this. What’s more, you’d better be friendly to others. Smile at others and you are sure to get a smile in return.
On the other hand, you find it difficult to remember English words. In my opinion, you can memorize English words well by reading more English stories and news. It’s a practical way, isn’t it? Also, if you develop a habit of keeping an English diary every day, it’ll be easier for you to remember more words.
Good luck with everything!
