① Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire.
② Since the Warring States Period (战国时代), the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared.
③ Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. To make syrup, they have to make sugar hot before painting. Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done.
④ However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying recently. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass on the art except those aging sugar painters.
⑤ For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. In the summer vacation, I decided to volunteer to teach the kids in a small village. The village is located in the mountain area.
When I reached the bottom of a mountain, a couple of people from the village took me to their place. They were so kind that they made me feel at home.
I gathered (聚集) the children and created a schedule for teaching them. On the first class, I placed a box full of chocolates near a tree at a distance (距离) of 200 meters. I announced that the child who runs fast and reaches first would get all chocolates. I wanted to encourage the children to be active through the competition. Then I counted “one, two and run!” But what happened then was a real surprise! All children ran towards the chocolate box together holding each other’s hands. There was only one winner and it was all the children. The children then happily shared the chocolates among them. I asked the children why they did that. One boy replied, “We can get the most happiness by sharing with others.”
At that time, I realized that these children had taught me more than I could ever teach them. I continued to teach them knowledge, but I also learned the true meaning of kindness from them. That is __________________

Dear Frank,
Great inventions have changed the world. Among all the inventions, I like the mobile phones best, which were invented in 1973. The mobile phones used to be large and heavy but now they are small and light.
For one thing, we can keep in touch with others anytime anywhere. For another, we can do many other things with mobile phones, such as listening to music, watching movies, taking photos, shopping, learning, searching for the information and so on. What’s more,we don’t need to bring money when going out because we can pay with the phones. With the help of them, our life is becoming more and more interesting and convenient.
These are the reasons why I like the mobile phones best. What’s your favorite invention Look forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Ping
