On February 9th, 2013, Sarah Darling was walking along the street when she met a homeless man named Billy Ray Harris. She reached into her change purse, emptied out all the coins she had and gave them to the homeless man. Neither of them realized that this small generous act would change their lives.
Sarah didn't realize that she had given Billy not only all her change but also her diamond ring that she had put in her change purse earlier until the following morning. She and her husband, Bill Krejci, rushed to see if they could find Billy. The homeless man was not only in the same place, he also immediately returned the ring. The grateful couple paid him back for his honesty by emptying out their pockets of all the money they had.
Bill Krejci, a web designer, felt that he needed to do something more for this amazingly honest man. So on February 18th, he set up a special page to raise money for him. In just four days, Billy received over $85,000
and there seems to be no end yet. That is not enough. Billy is living with a person who is generous instead of living in the streets. And that's not all—thanks to the news report, he got together again with his older brother, Edwin Harris, who he had been unable to find for 27 years.
All the good luck is just because Billy did the right thing—returning something that did not belong to him.

Summer is here. One of the best ways to cool off on a hot summer day is to jump into a swimming pool. But swimming can also be dangerous, so it’s important to stay safe as you do it. Here are a few things you can do to swim safely.
·Swim only in areas set for swimming.
Don’t swim unless there is a lifeguard. If you’re on a beach near the ocean, this is especially important. In some places, rushing water can sweep swimmers away without warning. So if a sign says “No swimming”, please take care.
·Be careful when diving (跳水) into the water headfirst.
Most pools have deep ends where diving is safe. In natural water, don’t dive unless you know that the water is deep enough. Or you could hit your head on the bottom (底部).
·Make sure you have a partner with you.
Nobody knows what will happen while you are swimming. If something goes wrong, you can get help from that person as soon as possible. In this situation, a few seconds can make a big difference.
·Pay close attention to children’s safety.
Kids who don’t know how to swim should wear life jackets. An adult should always be there because the kids are not old enough to swim by themselves. If you have a pool at home, put a fence (围栏) around it so that children won’t fall into it.
6. Which of the following will be important if you swim on a beach near the ocean
A. A warning sign. B. A partner. C. A lifeguard. D. A life jacket.

B. We should build pools for kids at home.
C. We should go swimming in the ocean.
D. We should swim with someone else.

Parents may think they’re smart about where they keep medicine, but their kids are smarter. Nearly 60, 000 young children are rushed to the hospital every year after getting into medicine that is not for them, according to a new report.
_____ 9 out of 10 parents know that medicine should be kept well and out of reach, but 7 out of 10 of them say they are not doing that. They leave medicine out on sofas or desks, believing babies and young kids aren’t tall or strong enough to reach it. However, they probably can. Children as young as a month have ended up in the hospital because they have been poisoned (中毒) by getting into medicine that was left within reach.
Most medicine poisonings—especially among babies and young kids—happen at their home. Kids develop rapidly and they want to experience something new for them. At certain ages they have a lot of activities using their hands and mouths, so it’s very common for them to taste what they find.
But things are getting better these years. The new Safe Kids Worldwide report includes a survey (调查) of 2, 000 parents with children under age 6. It shows the number of children visiting the hospital for accidental poisonings has declined since 2010.
Any kind of medicine will cause poisonings if the children take them by mistake, so parents should follow the steps to lower the risk of accidental medicine poisonings.
11. Which of the following can be put in “________” in Paragraph 2
A. They may spend a lot of money taking their children to hospital.
B. The report said kids often get interested in colorful medicine easily.
C. The report finds little connection between what parents know and what they actually do.
D. There is much medicine that is OK for parents but very dangerous for children.
12. The medicine is not kept well and out of children’s reach because some parents ________.
A. think their kids hate taking medicine
B. don’t have enough time to do this
C. believe that their children won’t take the medicine by mistake
D. don’t think their children are strong enough to reach the medicine
13. Why are children poisoned according to the passage
A. Because some of the medicine at home taste nice.
B. Because parents don’t buy medicine in the right place.
C. Because parents don’t use the medicine properly.
D. Because they always want to try something new.
14. What does the underlined word “declined” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Remained. B. Dropped. C. Disappeared. D. Increased.
15. Why is the passage written
A. To remind parents to put the medicine in the right place.
B. To show that kids love experiencing something new.
C. To tell people how to take medicine properly.
