After 10 years of difficult talks, nearly 200 countries agreed to a new United Nations (UN)agreement to protect the world's oceans. The agreement has been the first of its kind in 40 years. It plans to protect 30%of the open oceans by 2030.
Oceans cover about 71%of the Earth's surface and are home to hundreds of thousands of different kinds of animals and plants.Healthy oceans are a very important part of a healthy planet. But the oceans are in trouble.Overfishing has had a terrible effect on many kinds of fish and other animals.Pollution from ships and other places has caused serious problems. In 1982,an agreement described the “high seas(公海)”, but it did not protect them.In these areas, all countries have the right to fish, send ships, and do research. The high seas cover about two-thirds of the ocean. But now people only protect 1.2%of the areas.
Last December, over 110 countries agreed to protect 30%of their land and ocean areas by 2030.Without an international agreement, there was no way to make this goal meaningful for the whole ocean. The new agreement now makes this possible.
The new agreement tries to turn 30%of the high seas into protected areas by 2030. It also says that activities planned for the high seas must first be examined to see what kind of influcnces they might have on the ocean environment.Businesses in some countries hope to make a lot of money by getting valuable things from the bottom of the sea.Other businesses hope to find plants or animals in the ocean that could lead to new discoveries and new medicines
Many of the disagreements were about how valuable things would be shared between rich countries and poor ones.Poor countries wanted to make sure that the valuable things would help everyone, not just people in rich countries.

What does the new "classroom"look like Chen, together with Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe, showed us around."The beds in the Tianhe module are placed horizontally( 横 着),while our beds are kept upright."said Liu.That means astronauts in the Wentian lab module need to sleep standing up!But as Liu explained, people don't feel any difference because there's no gravity in space.Astronauts can even sleep on the ceiling(天花板)or upside down!
The astronauts also showed their“space farm”,where lettuce, wheat(小麦),thale cress (拟南芥)and rice are grown."Take a picture!"“Send the picture!”Through a voice-controlled camera,Chen already sent a picture of the thale cress to scientists on Earth. Then he used scissors to cut a sample(样本).“I'll put it into a fridge at-80℃
and later give it to scientists on Earth,"said Chen.Scientists will study how the environment of space affects the growth of plants
“Can you see the water drops coming from the leaves This is called 'guttation'(植 物吐水现象), ”said Liu,holding the well-grown rice.In space, the water drops are much bigger than those on Earth. So people can clearly see the guttation.

Computers and smartphones are perfect servants. They always do what they are
“told”.We usually"tell"them to do things with a mouse or a keyboard. 26
This technology, known as voice control.has been shown in films and TV shows since the 1960s.The Star Trek TV series, which first showed up on the screen at that time, had spaceships that could reply to human voice commands.A Space Odyssey showed a computer that human astronauts could talk to. 27
28 You might know well about Siri and Alexa, two examples of voice control systems developed by Apple and Amazon. They can be asked to do many things, from setting alarms and playing music to placing online shopping orders and controlling household appliances.
One of the nice things about voice control is that it can be used when you're on the go.When you're driving a car or walking down the sidewalk,it can be inconvenient or even dangerous to pick up your smartphone and type on the keyboard. 29
