I used to hate my mother because she worked a lot and didn’t spend much time with me. Then
one Friday morning I took part in a three-day self-help program for teenagers. Whether you believe it or not, that weekend changed my life.
About 100 other teenagers were there. During the first two days I met a lot of great people. I was glad because I made so many friends there.
On Sunday, the leader did an interesting exercise called “Chocolate or Toys”. He asked a girl which she liked better, chocolate or toys. She chose chocolate. Then he asked her to choose again between chocolate and chocolate. Of course, she didn’t have a choice.
This exercise told us that sometimes we don’t have a choice in life, and that sometimes we have to accept something, rather than complaining(抱怨).
A girl stood up and started talking about her mom who was a drug addict(吸毒者) and how much she hated her mother.
“I want a new mom,” she cried.
“Unluckily, you can’t have one,” the leader replied. “You have to accept the mother that you have.”

Kites were first used about 2,800 years ago in China, where materials for kite building were available: silk and bamboo. Ancient Chinese used kites for testing the wind, lifting men, communicating with the army and so on.
After its introduction into India, the kite further developed into the fighter kite known as the patang in India, and kite running competitions are held every year. In Afghanistan, kite running is an ancient tradition, and it is regarded as an art as well as a sport; the aim of the kite runners is to cut the string (线) of the kites belonging to their competitors with the string of their own. It is exciting and fun, but can also be dangerous, as kite runners can fall or run into things while they are fighting with competitors.
The period from 1860 to about 1910 was the golden age of kiting. Kites started to be used for scientific purposes. Then the invention of the powered plane reduced the interest in kites, and since then they have been used mainly for fun. You can see them being flown every evening in Tian'anmen Square in Beijing, in all shapes and forms.
