一、阅读理解
Middle school years are important and bring great changes to children’s lives. We have some advice for you in the hope of helping you live a happy middle school life.
Your health is the most important thing for you. Health is a great treasure — always protect it. Many teenagers think they don’t have to worry about their health because it is just there. Never take your good health for granted and never waste it, or you’ll regret it later on.
You can’t please everyone. It’s human nature to want to be liked and respected. Actually, it is impossible for you to please everyone. You just need to be yourself, love and respect others so that they will give the same things back to you.
You don’t always get what you want. No matter how carefully you plan and how hard you work, sometimes things just don’t work out the way you want them to and that’s okay. Sometimes our dreams fail, sometimes we just have to try a few things before we find the right direction.
There’s no shame in not knowing. Nobody has all the answers. Pretending to be perfect doesn’t make you perfect. It will only bring you more trouble. We all make mistakes. We learn as we grow — that’s life.
To sum up, a healthy mind in a healthy body is the key to a happy middle school life. Actually, it will continue to be the case when you move to the next stage of life.

Have you ever heard of the Silk Road (丝绸之路) Do you know what an important role it plays in the whole world Did you visit any famous places along the road Although it’s called the Silk Road, people bought and sold much more than silk. The Silk Road went through Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. It was 6,500 km from Xi’an to Rome.
My dad is very interested in the Silk Road and he has told me many things about it. Last summer, my family got away for a holiday and went to some places on the road.
We started at Lanzhou and went on to Wuwei. Wuwei was a very important city on the Silk Road. It connected (连接) three main cities in the area. In ancient times, it was also a capital. Although it’s now a modern city, you can get a feeling of history when you visit it. We saw lots of very old stone monuments and people there were very proud of their city’s long history.
The next stop was Jiayuguan. It’s on the edge (边缘) of the desert, and was also an important place on the Silk Road. It was a busy city with a lot of people coming and going. Even today, it’s also a city that many business people travel through. An important part of the Great Wall was also built here.
After that, we went on to Yumenguan. I first found out about Yumenguan in the famous poem written by Wang Zhihuan. It was in the Gobi Desert and was the only connection between Central Asia and China. I wonder how people ever made it through the hot desert so long ago.

If music makes you smart and exercise helps you to think, surely exercising to music can turn you into a person who is better at learning and understanding.
A team of scientists from a university did research on 33 volunteers. They found that people who exercised while listening to Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons did much better in language ability test than without music.
The volunteers said they felt better after exercising with or without the music. But their improvement on the test doubled after listening to the music during exercise. “Exercise seems to cause great changes in the nervous system (神经系统) and have a direct result on learning ability,” said the scientist Charles Emery. Scientists have found that music can be good for health and education. It helps relieve stress, sadness and nervousness, wakes up the body and improves memory and thoughts.
Scientists have been using Mozart’s music, especially his violin pieces, to help disabled children. Mozart is often chosen because his music is not over-exciting. A study showed students who often exercise to Mozart’s music get higher marks. With important exams drawing near, your parents will not probably allow you to listen to music. But perhaps now you have good reasons to argue with them.
