Many years passed and the lady was very successful in business. She owned two large companies. She realized her husband was very old, so she thought perhaps she should go to visit him. But before she could, she received a letter telling her that he had died, and gave all of his possessions(财产) to her. She needed to come back and take care of the things.
When she arrived at his house, she was surprised to see the still new dictionary there, just as she had left it years before. With tears in her eyes, she opened it and began to turn the pages. A ring dropped from the dictionary to the floor and a card could be seen. She picked it up and found it was the ring she wanted in those days. Born in the 2000s, what do you think of your generation Young, creative, connected, global smart, maybe good- looking But what do other people think about your generation
Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face- down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies(自拍) to become successful in real life or “IRL”, as you would say
Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled(宠坏) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to do everything for them. So today’s young people seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s
Does the face- down generation need a heads- up Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people volunteer to serve their communities than ever. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.
So if you are one of them born in the 2000s, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face- down generation.
29.Why are young people born in the 2000s called “face- down generation”
A.Because they are always busy with homework with their heads down.
B.Because they are not closely connected to the people around them.
C.Because they show great interest in the phone and use it too much.
D.Because they are not confident and feel shamed with themselves.
30.In the writer’s eyes, today’s teenagers ______.
A.are not creative because of the educational problem.
B.are willing to take part in many social activities.
C.are smarter and more good- looking than their parents.
D.are more successful and creative than their parents.
31.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Parents should care more about their teenagers’ life and study.
B.Mobile phones are harmful to teenagers’ growth and development.
C.Teenagers don’t need to change themselves to meet adults’ standards.
D.Though the young people have some problems, their future is full of hope.

Ren Xiuzhen, an 80- year- old woman, said her husband is in poor health. With the one- click service telephone, she can call 120 very quickly if she or her husband is in need.
Smart watch
For 61- year- old Sha Ruifang, a smart watch helps a lot. It allows her to go out without worrying too much about an unexpected situation.
Sha said once she was out with her family when she suddenly received a call from the smart elderly care control centre. They said they had discovered an unusual heartbeat(心跳) through the watch and asked her if she felt unwell.

March is the month to learn from Lei Feng in China, and the 46 (five) day of March is set by our country as Learn From Lei Feng Day. Lei Feng is probably one of 47 (famous) soldiers in China. He always thought more about others than 48 (he). He helped many people during his 22 years of life. He often spent his spare time and money 49 (help) people in need. He carried luggage for the old and gave food to children. He didn’t say anything about 50 he did. After he 51 (death) in 1962, people found his diary and learned about him. He is regarded as a symbol of the giving spirit.
Today the “Lei Feng spirit” still encourages Chinese people to do volunteer work. The Youth Team is one of the volunteer groups that worked at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games. The 192 young volunteers worked for 16 days and offered more than 6000 hours of selfless service 52 the players from all over Asia. It is not an easy job to work as a volunteer. It is natural for young people to worship(崇拜) cool and good- looking young “idols(偶像).” We spend a lot of time caring about them— even more time than we spend on our studies or work. We often wonder: What makes them so popular 56
Well, guess what Many of your idols are only made to “look” cool. If you could see into their private lives, you would find these stars aren’t so bright. Their beauty is only skin- deep(肤浅的). 57
When I was a teenager, I had worshiped pop idols, too.
Then, one day, I discovered Leonard Cohen and Neil Young. 58 . They wore no flashy clothes, and they had no screaming fans. They didn’t need to be flashy because their songs were great and meaningful. They told the truth: 59 Most of all, they taught me that it was okay if I was not popular and cool all of the time. I still listen to them today.
Idols can serve as important role models in our lives, so it’s very important to choose the right ones. We should celebrate people who teach us important values that can help to guide us on the road ahead.
The next time you see some pretty, popular “stars,” ask yourself: 60
A.Do I really need these people in my life B.Some of them might not be as honest, kind or hard- working as you are! C.What could I do to be cool like them D.They were ordinary- looking people who played the guitar while sitting on a stool(凳子) E.Life is hard and the road you take might sometimes be lonely. F.They have a lot of screaming fans.

Ten years ago, my husband and I took a summer holiday in Greece.
On our last night, we didn’t want to stay with other tourists. So we put our best clothes on and set off at 7:30. Then we walked out of the town.
30 minutes later, we arrived at a good- looking restaurant full of local people. So we entered it and found an empty table. The people on the next table had the most delicious looking food. There were seafood, meat, salad, and everything. We decided to order the same. A lovely, smiling old lady came over to us but she didn’t speak English. So my husband just pointed to the food on the next table. Happily, she understood and brought us mountains of wonderful food. What a great time!
Finally, when we asked to pay our bill, the old lady just smiled. We were told it was free, because it was the lady’s birthday party and she was very happy we could join them.
How embarrassing(尴尬), but how lovely. They were so kind to us, complete strangers.

[1] Water is important in our life, but sometimes water can be dangerous for kids. So we must (66)______(留心,注意) to the kids’ safety in water. Water safety begins at home or in the pool. Here are some suggestions for you.
[2] Be careful of the hot water. Hot water can be dangerous, especially for kids under five. These young kids have thinner skin than older kids and adults, so it’s easier for them to be burnt. Staying in hot water that’s 60℃ for just 3 seconds can give a child a third- degree burn. You can reduce the risk by testing the water with your wrist(腕) or el bow before placing your kid in bath.
[3] Watch out for danger in the bathroom. The bathroom is full of danger for young kids. Never leave a young child alone in the bathroom, especially while he or she is bathing. Remember to put away hair dryers and all other electrical appliances (家用电器) to avoid the risk.
[4] Never let kids swim alone. Swimming in the water may make you feel great. As the kids move in the water, many small muscle (肌肉) groups are working to help them keep balance . But it’s not a perfect sport because of the risk of injury(伤害). For example, many types of swimming need repeated arm movements. Over time, the movements can cause shoulder and neck injuries. So it’s dangerous when they stay in the water alone, they may even drown(溺亡). So the kids are not supposed to swim(67) ①______ their parents’ company (陪伴) .
