Instead of complaining, Tom told Ben that he felt “ 6 ” about the task. “Only one in a thousand—maybe even two thousand—boys can do this!” Tom said.
Tom’s words made Ben interested in the task. He even gave Tom his apple so that he could have a 7 to paint the fence. If Tom had thought about 8 but complaining, he would have had a bad day painting the fence.
This story teaches me a valuable lesson: Complaining is 9 . The next time you are given a boring or tiring task, don’t complain. When you want to travel for the first time, you’re a bit afraid to travel on your own and naturally prefer to travel with other people. So you ask your friends to join you. As you show them the photos you discovered online, you are sure you will get a travel partner or two.
But interestingly enough, the first friend you ask, perhaps your closest friend, turns you down. And you move on to the next friend, but he too tells you he doesn’t want to join you at all.
Maybe you decide to postpone your trip, hoping that one of your friends will change his mind. Maybe you decide to forget about your trip, fully convinced (确信) that the only way you would ever be able to have the confidence to travel is with a friend or travel partner by your side.
If that is the case, then I’m quite happy that you are reading this article. Here’s my advice to you. You may be on your own when you board your flight, but once you arrive, you’ll never actually be alone.
That’s how travel works, so don’t be afraid to travel on your own. You’re going to meet people when you travel. In fact, meeting new people is probably one of the easiest things to do when travelling because you quickly have connection with every other traveller. All travellers are strangers in a foreign land and as a result, we often would love to have the chance to travel with a new friend.
Maybe you’ll meet someone at a cafe, in shop, on a bus, or just in the street. Maybe you’ll end up wandering around a city for an afternoon with this person and then saying goodbye. And the next day, you’ll probably meet someone else to share new experiences with as well. Perhaps you’ll meet someone and decide to travel together for a couple of days or weeks.
The point is, you’ll meet plenty of people in just about every single corner of the world, even if you’re the shyest person on the planet. And before long, you’ll understand why I always give the same answer every time I’m asked what it’s like to always be traveling alone. I just say, “I maybe travel alone but I’m never really on my own.”
14.What can we learn from the passage
A.You prefer someone to go with you when you travel for the first time.

B.People would love to have the chance to travel with a new friend.
C.A shy person won’t be able to meet any new people when travelling.
D.If you board your flight alone, you will travel alone all the way.
17.What does the writer mainly want to tell us
A.Don’t be afraid to travel on your own. B.It’s not easy to get a travel partner.
C.Don’t go travelling without a partner. D.It’s necessary to make a travel plan.

If you are studying at a university in the US, there is no need to decide your major (专业) in the first year, but it’s a good idea to spend time early on working out what subjects you are interested in.
To do this, you can take some tests such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Test (MBTI职业性格测试) and the Enneagram Personality Test (九型人格测试). These tests can help tell you what things you might be good at. They can help you work out what subjects you’re interested in and tell you what jobs may suit you best.
Further, you should choose a major you are interested in. After all, people are most likely to be successful if they are doing something they love. Your passion (热情) and interests are important, and they will bring you pleasure and happiness.
Lastly, you should learn about the different majors available. Math, computer science, information technology, economics, journalism and business management—they are all very different majors. You should have an understanding of what kind of jobs people with different degrees can get after graduation. You can look at the websites of famous universities to find out more.
Choosing subjects you are interested in is quite important. As time goes by, your interests might change while you are at university. In the US, you can always change majors as long as you have the passion and ability to do so. If you have any doubts or questions about your academic path, you can seek help from your school’s counselors (顾问) and academic advisors.

“Out to the pig house,” replied Mrs.Arable.“Some pigs were born last night.”

“Put it on her chair!” said Mrs. Arable.

请认真阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题。
Scheduling (行程安排) attracts many people.
Scheduling means setting a detailed, fixed time for an activity. It is one of the most familiar and powerful methods of forming a habit and it’s one of my favorites. Scheduling makes us far more likely to turn an activity into a habit. I schedule even more small habit such as “Kiss my daughter every morning and every night.”
Habits grow strongest and farthest when they are repeated in the easiest ways. And for most of us, putting an activity on the schedule means locking us into doing it. So In college and law school, I never asked myself, “Should I go to class ” or “Do I need to do this reading tonight ” If class was scheduled, I went. If reading was on the schedule, I read it.
A friend with a daily schedule gets up at 4:30 am, takes a 40-minute walk, eats breakfast with her two sons, showers, dresses and is on the train to work at 7:30. For someone else, any of these activities might be a challenge, but not for her; she’s already decided what to do.
Scheduling can help us fill our timetable of the day, and it will turn the timetable into habits. Scheduling one activity makes that time unavailable (不能利用) for anything else. Which is good—especially for people who have trouble saying no. Every week, Elisa and I go on a “Wednesday afternoon adventure (探险)” (though we are not that kind of adventurous, and usually end up at the museum). Especially now that Elisa is in her special teenage years, I want to make sure we have some pleasant time together every week. So I put our adventure on the schedule and if I am asked to do anything else, I say automatically (自动的), “I have a plan at that time.” Scheduling makes activities automatic, which builds habits.
54.What is scheduling
55.How can scheduling help people form a habit
56.Introduce a habit you have kept recently and tell the good points. (No less than 15 words)
