For most freshmen, August is the month of military training(军训), which becomes a good chance to get familiar with new classmates, adapt to campus life and learn how to be a leader.
Our school's military training took place from Aug. 23 to 29. One of the challenges was to make a blackboard newspaper in the new classroom. When I found out that I was responsible for the project, I had butterflies in my stomach. Would other top students alienate me Would they feel that I did not belong to their group Even though they were friendly, what if my classmates didn't follow my advice under my leadership
The project began on Aug. 24. The three other girls and I gave up our lunch break and returned to the dormitory later at night so as to work longer on the project. One girl, named Linda, challenged my design, which discouraged me from time to time. But whenever we had different opinions, I tried to stay calm, making suitable adjustments. Soon, I found her to be a person with strong opinions and organizing abilities. Sometimes, I even felt relieved to leave the project in her care.
Surprisingly, other classmates were very easy-going. On the last day, two hours before our result from the school leaders, we needed paper flowers so the whole class joined us and covered the work table with a blanket of flowers in two minutes! When the work was done, our teacher said that no matter what the result might be, our efforts were the most important.
Our class finally won first prize in the competition, which I had not expected. But our teacher was right: The result doesn't matter. I have never seen a class with such a strong sense of group honor, and at that moment, I strongly believed that I was working with a group of top students and I could be a qualified leader.

Thirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends—532, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them.
But is it possible that Kaylee's online friendships could be making her lonely That's what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendships.
Could this be true During your parents' childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words With Friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other.
Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teen sends 2, 000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of this time is spent on social media platforms(平台).
In fact, in many ways, online communication can make friendships stronger, "There's definitely a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other, " says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.
Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendships. "If we are constantly checking in with our virtual words, we will have little time for our real-world friendships." says Larry Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today's kids might mistake the "friends" on the social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don't need someone to like your picture or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.
18.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To summarize the text
B. To tell about true friends.
C. To bring up a discussion.
D. To encourage online friendship.
19.What does the underlined part "in the flesh" mean in Paragraph 3
A. In person
B. In advance.
C. In any case.
D. In full measure.
20.What is Katie's attitude towards online communication
A. Worried. B. Positive. C. Confused. D. Unconcerned.
21.What view does Rosen hold
A. It's wise to turn to friends online.
B. It's easier to develop friendships in reality.
C. Social media help people stay closely connected.
D. Teenagers need focus on real-world friendships.

Going from junior high school to the freshman year of senior high school is a big challenge. What if you meet with difficulties 22
Be open to new friendships.
Senior high school is all about experiencing new things, including new friendships. Getting to know people you haven't met before is a great way to broaden your horizons. 23 Simply sitting with a new person at lunch can be a good way to get it started.
24
For most people, going off to senior high school means heading off to a new campus. If you worry about the unknown, reach the school and see if someone can help. They might be able to show you around the campus, which will make you a bit more comfortable as you go on with your freshman year.
Get organized.
Senior high school and junior high school are very different in studying. 25 You can buy a planner and spend a few minutes each night revising the notes you took in class that day. Being on top of your study will make it much easier to get used to senior high school.
Create a three-year plan.
While there's no need to plan every day for the next three years, it can't hurt to make a note of classes you want to take or activities you'd like to try. 26 Having a plan in place will help you make the most of your senior high school experience.
A. Explore the campus.
B. Be open to new experiences.
C. If you're nervous or frightened, start small.
D. Believe it or not, the three years goes by really fast.
E. Challenges like these might sometimes put you under great pressure.
