If your notebooks look a little boring, you can give them a new cover. You use your notebooks in every class, so why shouldn’t they look different There are some of the best ways you can use by yourself to keep your notebooks looking fun and fresh all year round.
Draw some pictures on them. If you can’t draw well, you can cover your own notebooks with stickers. There are many beautiful and funny stickers you can choose from in the shop. This works well and it is the easiest way.
Write fun or important ideas on your notebooks. You can use a paint brush to paint your notebook cover. When the paints are dry, it will turn into a hard cover you can use. You can write anything you like on it then, such as a famous saying, the dates of important exams and the important things you need to do.
Create your own designs. This is easier on brown paper. Wrap your notebooks in brown paper first. Then use colored pencils to draw your favorite shapes. You can draw your favorite animals, friends and other things with your favorite colors. You can use a pencil to try first on another piece of paper so that you can erase the things you drew easily if you don’t like them.

①We can see circles, squares and triangles (三角形) everywhere in our daily life. Have you thought about their meanings in films Much like colors, different shapes can show different features of characters in the scenes.
②Circles represent things that are soft and natural. The round shape reminds us of things that appear in nature, like the sun, flowers, raindrops and so on. We can also connect circles with beautiful eyes, babies’ round faces…All these things make us feel happy and warm. This is why so many cartoon characters’ bodies—heroes, kids, good people—are round in shape, because circles represent goodness, happiness and friendliness.
③Squares show things that are unnatural or man-made, or things that are boring or old-fashioned. In Up, Carl, an elderly man, has a square face and wears square glasses, while Russell, an 8-year-old boy with a round face, always wears round medals. These shapes show the characters’ personalities. Carl is stubborn (执拗的) and lonely, while Russell is lovely and full of energy.
④The angriest shape is the triangle. Every kid who draws a monster with sharp teeth draws a row of triangles, don’t they That’s because the shape represents fear, distrust and doubt in some way. Look at the bad guys in cartoons—they are all drawn with plenty of points and triangles, like Shengongbao in Ne Zha. And triangles are stable (稳固的) and don’t easily fall down. In films, this feature makes bad people difficult to deal with.
⑤Not only in cartoons, but also in other kinds of films, different shapes are used for the same purpose. So, next time you see a film, try to find the hidden shapes and you will know what the characters are like.
28.The writer explains the relationship between squares and personalities of cartoon characters by ________.
A.telling a story B.giving an example
C.raising a question D.showing the results of a study
29.Why is Shengongbao mentioned in Paragraph 4
A.Because kids think he is a monster.
B.Because he has a row of sharp teeth.
C.Because he is a bad guy in the film.
D.Because he is not easy to deal with.
30.Which of the following is the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
31.The passage mainly talks about ________.
A.why different shapes represent different things
B.what makes heroes in films have great charm
C.what different shapes represent in films
D.how to make cartoons with different colors and shapes

This summer, the temperatures were very high in Europe. Firefighters fought against hundreds of wildfires in many European countries. And hundreds of people died because of the heat wave.
However, according to a survey, only about 20% of homes in Europe have air conditioners, compared to 90% in the US. Why is that
First, usually it isn’t very hot in Europe in summer because of its location. Europe is located farther north than the US, making the weather cooler. The average July high in London is 24℃, which is 10 degrees cooler than the average July high in New York.
Second, there are many old houses in Europe. More than half of the houses in Europe were built in the last century. The weather then was not as hot as it is nowadays. Naturally, air conditioners were unnecessary. What’s more, those old houses’ structure and material make it harder and more expensive to install (安装) air conditioners. Installing an air conditioner could cost more than the air conditioner itself.
As for other reasons, they can be very personal. Some people think air conditioners make them sick, so they don’t accept air conditioners. Some think using air conditioners produces much greenhouse gas. It is bad for the environment and makes the weather even hotter!
______ With higher and higher temperatures, more and more Europeans are considering installing air conditioners these days.
32.According to this passage, if there are about 8.9 million people living in London, then how many people may live in homes with air conditioners
A.593,000. B.1,780,000. C.2,670,000. D.8,010,000.
33.Which of the following CANNOT explain why there are fewer air conditioners in Europe
A.It isn’t so hot because of its location.
B.Many houses were built a long time ago.
C.The air conditioners in Europe are too expensive.
D.Some people there just don’t like air conditioners for different reasons!
34.According to Paragraph 4, which of the following statements is NOT true
A.Many houses in Europe were built in the 20th century.
B.The weather in the 20th century is hotter than that in the 21st century.
C.The air conditioner may not be as expensive as the cost of installing it in an old house.
D.It is hard to put in air conditioners in an old house because of its structure and material.
35.Which sentence is most likely to be put in the blank of the last paragraph
A.Europeans are just fine with the heat in summer.
B.But things will probably change in the coming years.
C.Because of all these reasons above, Europeans may just have to stand the heat all along.
D.No matter how hot it gets, Europeans have their ways to get through without air conditions.

When looking at a pair of old chopsticks, most people would see nothing but waste. But Felix Bock would see boxes, tables, shelves and so on.
In 2016, Felix Bock, a doctoral student at the University of British Columbia, Canada, found out people threw away about 100,000 pairs of chopsticks every day in Vancouver alone. He felt the need to do something. So he started the company ChopValue in the same year. The company collected used chopsticks from restaurants, schools and shopping centers in Canada and the US and turned them into furniture and other artworks. Now in its fifth year, with the rapid growth of the company, Bock employs 40 people, and using his special methods of steam and press machines, he has recycled 32 million pairs of chopsticks.
Bock takes pride in his work. And he hopes the idea behind ChopValue will help people rethink what they see as waste. “I believe every small action can help,” he said. “And I am happy that my business provides a new way for people.” Hundreds of restaurants across North America pay a small sum of money to Bock for the recycling of their used chopsticks.
