Wales is home to some of the UK’s most beautiful drives.Narrow lanes criss-cross the land, meaning travel can be slow—but there’s no need to rush.
The Coastal Way
This route covers the entire length of Cardigan Bay,and spoils travelers with its remote beaches and charming seaside towns.
Comb the sand for fossils, shells at Aberdaron Beach, and then hit the road, heading cast toward Porthmadog. Here you can hop on a heritage steam train,a relic of the region’s mining history,to give Snowdonia’s skyline your undivided attention.
The Cambrian Way
The Cambrian Way,which cuts north to south through the heart of Wales,is a fantastic place, thanks to its patchwork fields, dense forests and rolling,sheep-dotted hills.
The route becomes increasingly wild and rough as it weaves north into Powys.Spend the night in Rhayader, and you’ll need plenty of energy for hiking or mountain biking along the trails.
The North Wales Way
Spanning Wales’ short but scenic north coast, this route offers road trippers a chance to encounter Welsh history, language and culture in a splendid setting.
Head west through the uncrowded Clwydian Hills until you reach Ruthin,a little town brimming with history, where you can see its restored castle,century-spanning museum and Victorian Ruthin Gaol.
Border Country
Tracing the dotted line that separates England and Wales on a map, this border-hugging route will take you to some of Wales’ most underrated sites slowly,if you stick to the narrow back roads.
Starting in the border town of Chepstow in Southeast Wales, make your way northward. You can top to admire the roofless ruins of Tintern Abbey and lesser known castles Skenfrith and Grosmont.

Nearly every week,we hear news about the latest successes and failures in driverless vehicles. But we hear little about how other industries are developing this same kind of technology. One industry heavily involved in researching and developing artificial intelligence,or AI,is panies are experimenting with high-tech tools that can help farmers save time and money, while reducing environment-harming chemicals.
One of the companies is ecoRobotix of Switzerland. It created a robot equipped with AI and cameras to identify all plants on a farm. The robot has four wheels to carry it through the fields in search of puter-controlled arms then lower and spray the weeds with small amounts of herbicide(除草剂).Company officials say the robot can fully operate on its own for up to 12 hours a day while being powered by the sun.It uses the same kind of sensor and positioning technology used to guide driverless vehicles.A farmer can also control the equipment through a smartphone.
The co-founder of ecoRobotix,Aurelien Demaurex, says the farm robot can kill weeds with 20 times less herbicide than traditional methods. This is because the system uses exactly the right amount of chemical in the exact place required to kill the weeds.Currently, farmers spread weed killers over massive areas to destroy unwanted plants.
Another company developing farm robotics is California-based Blue River Technology. The company has a system called “See & Spray”,which it claims was the world’s first smart sprayer. The system—which connects to the back of a tractor—is also equipped with AI to identify and chemically kill only the weeds. It can also spray chemicals on wanted plants to help them grow.Ben Chostner,vice-president of business development for Blue River Technology, explains in a company video that See & Spray technology uses the same deep learning methods used in facial recognition.“The first time the machine saw a pigweed,it didn’t know what kind of plant it was.But we taught it—by giving it tens of thousands of examples of that pigweed—and now it’s an expert in pigweed.”
28.How will AI benefit agriculture
A.It will fund agricultural research.
B.It contributes to low-cost farming.
C.It can avoid harmful chemicals.
D.It frees all farmers from field work.
29.What do the products of the two companies have in common

C.It has the learning ability. D.It can track various plants.
31.What is mainly talked about in the text
A.The experiment in farming robots.
B.New trend in artificial intelligence.
C.Modern See & Spray technology.

The climate change is already eating into the output of the world’s agricultural systems, with productivity much lower than it would have been if humans hadn’t rapidly heated the planet, new research has found.
Advances in technology, fertilizer use and global trade have allowed food production to keep pace with an increasing global population since the 1960s.But rising temperatures in this time have acted as a handbrake(手刹) to farming productivity of crops, according to the new research, published in Nature Climate Change.Productivity has actually slumped by 21% since 1961,compared to if the world hadn’t been affected by global heating.
With the global population set to rise to more than 9 billion by 2050,the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization has estimated that food production will have to increase by about 70%,with annual crop production increasing by almost 1 billion tons and meat production by more than 200m tons a year by this point.Meanwhile, global temperatures are rising at a rate that scientists warn is extremely dangerous for human civilization.
“The impact already is larger than I thought it would be,” said Ariel Ortiz-Bobea,an economist at Cornell University who led the research.“It was a big surprise to me.The worry I have is that research and development in agriculture takes decades to translate into higher productivity. The projected temperature increase is so fast that I don’t know if we are going to keep pace with that.”
Weston Anderson,a researcher of food security(安全) and climate at Columbia University who didn’t take part in the study, said the new research provided fresh insight into the importance of the impact upon agriculture.
“The regions that this paper highlights as experiencing the largest reductions in agricultural productivity—Central America and the Sahel—contain some of the least food secure countries in the world, which is a real concern,” he said.
32.What does the underlined word “slumped” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Fallen. B.Gathered. C.Approached. D.Benefited.
33.What is Ariel Ortiz-Bobea worried about
A.Fertilizer is used in food production.
B.Population will rise to over 9 billion.
C.Agricultural research needs many years.
D.Global temperatures are rising too fast.
34.What can we learn about Weston Anderson
A.He puts forward a different solution.
B.He proposes carrying on with the research.
C.He pays more attention to food insecure regions.
D.He supports improving agricultural productivity.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.The Impact of Growth in Farm Productivity
B.Productivity in Agriculture Is Growing
C.Causes and Effects of Global Heating
D.Rapid Global Heating Is Hurting Farm Productivity

How to Control Weeds When Planting
No matter what you choose to grow in the garden,at some point, you will have to deal with unwanted plants, known as weeds. 36 Even a tomato plant can become a weed if it grows where you don’t want it to.
37 Weeds can bring many problems. They steal nutrients and water.Weeds can also bring harmful bugs and diseases into your garden. Some weeds release chemicals that can slow the growth of nearby plants.
It is important to note that some weeds are not all bad.In fact, you can eat them.Dandelions are also viewed as a weed by many people. 38 And you can eat or use nearly every part of the plant. But even other weeds can do good things in our garden. The roots of weeds can prevent the soil from being blown away by wind or washed away by rain.
However, left to grow on their own, weeds can take over a garden. To slow the growth of weeds, add a layer of weed-free,organic material to the top of your garden, around the plants. 39
A simple and effective method of weed control is to break up the surface layer of the soil. But you must do this regularly.Do not turn the soil over. 40 If you turn the soil over, you give those seeds the light and air they need to grow.Probably the best way to fight some weeds is to eat them! Just make sure they are,in fact, eatable.
A.But their leaves are also full of nutrients.
B.This makes it difficult to reshape a garden.
C.A weed is just a plant growing in the wrong place.
D.This improves the soil and keeps weeds from growing.
E.Besides being unwanted, what else do weeds do to a garden
F.Buried in the soil are weed seeds, waiting for the right conditions.
G.So,before we hurry outside to kill all the weeds, consider their good side.

An unlucky experience in my youth left me with an almost extreme fear of snakes. No matter how much I tried to learn about snakes,I found myself shaking with fear at so much as a photograph in a magazine or a toy snake.
Then,I became a mother.Time flew. When my son reached Cub Scout(童子军) age,I signed him up for the local pack.Within a short time,I volunteered to work as a caregiver.
A family camping trip to the local Scout campgrounds provided opportunities for the boys to learn at a variety of nature stations.I went from one post to another with the kids excitedly. All my positive feelings disappeared, however, when the staff member pointed us up the path to the next post.
“You guys are going to love the reptile(爬行动物) station,” a staff member announced.
“They’ve got a live snake you can hold.”
Live?Hold? Was he kidding?I almost turned and ran away until I remembered I was responsible for these boys.I couldn’t leave them.
The boys ran to the reptile station.I forced my feet to follow them.
The young man there went through his presentation on the importance of snakes in the environment with good humor and lots of information.
“Are you ready to meet Humphrey?” he asked.
The boys cheered. The young man carried a snake from a covered container beside the table.
He regarded Humphrey as a camp mascot(吉祥物) for a few years. As he talked about the characters of the species,he held the snake on his arm.The snake rested quietly there as the young man spoke. He explained the snake was not a threat to humans.
“Watch this,” he said, and placed the snake on the tabletop beside him.The snake stayed there quietly.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
He offered the boys a chance to touch the snake.
“Don’t you want to hold him,Ms Mary Beth?” one of the boys asked me.

第一节 参考范文
Dear Eric,
How are you doing?I have a great plan for this weekend!
My uncle runs an organic farm and I’m planning to visit it this Saturday.I think it would be a great opportunity for us to spend some time together in the countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
During the visit,we will have a guided tour of the farm to learn about organic farming practices. We’ll also get to participate in some fun entertainment activities, such as picking fruit and vegetables, feeding animals, etc. And of course,we’ll have the chance to taste some delicious organic food.
If you’re interested, please let me know and we can make the necessary arrangements.
Best regards,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文
He offered the boys a chance to touch the snake. The boys stopped laughing quickly, looking at each other. He explained the proper technique to them so they could support the snake without hurting it.At first, some boys with courage began to touch Humphrey softly.Humphrey was accustomed to being handled and went straight to playing dead. His grace and gentle acceptance gave other boys confidence and a chance to appreciate his beauty.Naturally, they all wanted to hold him.But I tried to keep a “safe” distance from the snake.
“Don’t you want to hold him,Ms Mary Beth?” one of the boys asked me.He held out the snake toward me.I had no choice as an adult but to accept his offering, prepared to die on the spot.I expected cold and wet. What I got was dry and soft.Could this snake read my mind?In those moments,Humphrey brought me out of a world of fear and into a world of wonder. He taught me to look past labels like “snake” and see beyond to individuals like Humphrey.
