Li Li, a 29-year-old worker in Shanghai, sells used things online. In the two years since she registered (注册) at a secondhan d e-commerce platform(电商平台), she has sold nearly 14,000 yuan of such things, including clothes, shoes, bags and so on.
“All the things I sell are carefully chosen. To me, they are small things, but that doesn't mean they are useless to others,”said Li.
The scale of China's secondhan d market has risen from about 300 billion yuan in 2015 to more than 1 trillion yuan in 2020. The increasing popularity of Chinese online resale platforms like Xianyu and ZZER has also driven the growth of secondhan d business.
According to online reseller ThredUp, the secondhan d market is predicted to reach S 80 billion(about 518 billion yuan) by 2029. And, secondhan d fashion is expected to grow an unbelievable 185per cent in that same amount of time.
Usually, most people think it is socially shameful to buy used things. However, today, young people care about the real value of the things instead of whether it is new.“I've always been happy to buy secondhand things like books, toys and clothes on Xianyu. Many of these things are in great
condition, so they're completely usable,"a girl from Shanghai said.
