There are many kinds of wild cats in Africa, such as the lion, the cheetah and the leopard. African cats are beautiful animals but they are not safe. The biggest danger to African cats is losing their living places. Roads and farms leave less space for wildlife. The cheetah used to be seen around Africa. Today, the cat can only be found in certain places of Africa. They have lost 75% of their living places. Lions once lived all over Africa as well. But now their population is becoming smaller and smaller. They can no longer be found in North Africa, and less than 400 lions remain in West Africa. Illegal hunting(非法捕猎) is also a problem to the wild big cats in some places.
There are protected areas in many parts of Africa. But outside those places, wild African cats may be killed. They may be killed for their beautiful skins. They may be killed for use in traditional medicines. They may be killed by people who hunt for sport, or fun.
Some organisations and groups, like The Cat Survival Trust(CST) and African Wildlife Foundation(AWF), are working to protect African cats. They are trying their best to make sure these cats can live in a peace.
The job of protecting African cats is really difficult, but one small step could lead to bigger steps.

On that Sunday afternoon, my friend and I sat on the beach chairs and watched our girls playing in the waves.
Suddenly, the girls all ran away. About fifty metres from us, the girls stood next to a middle- aged man and watched him fishing. He smiled at them. They ran back to us—— all except my three- year- old daughter, Anna.
“ Anna! Come here! Play with your friends!”I shouted, realizing that my speeches about not talking to strangers weren't working. These days, many parents were told terrible stories about children being taken away by strangers. Good mums should teach their daughters that the world is a dangerous place. So I felt a little better when Anna finally ran towards me. Then she took up a shovel(铲子) and looked me in the eye,“I want to be with man.”
She ran back, sat down next to him and started digging.
I watched my daughters, every few seconds looking quickly at my five- year- old to make sure she hadn't been swept out to the sea, then back to Anna to make sure she was safe.
A few seconds later, Anna ran back to us, waving something shiny.
It was a toy fish- yellow and rubber. This must have been what he was using for fishing. And he’d given it to Anna. The three other girls saw it and :
“ My friend gave me that fish!” Anna shouted loudly. The girls ran after each other with a yellow rubber fish flying through the air.
Suddenly, the man walked towards us with three more rubber fish. He handed them to each of the girls.“ Thank you,” they said quickly.
“ Thank you,”I said, realizing that there are lessons for mothers to learn that only three- year- olds could teach them.

A recent study shows that more than half of parents in England do not talk to their children about whether feeling sad, worried, nervous, lonely or stressed(有压力的) in their daily life.
More than 1,100 parents were asked in the study, whose children are all aged between 6 and 18.55% of them had never spoken about the subject. Many parents said it was because they didn't know what to say. Almost half of parents said they felt they did not need to have the conversation because mental health(心理健康) was“ not a big problem”. But a report from the study says that children may have mental health problems at the age of four. Scientists and doctors suggest that people should not shy away from the subject.
A new research from Time to Change has also shown that more than two- thirds of head- teachers were worried about their pupils’ mental health. The problem stops young people from doing everyday things such as going out with friends, attending school and some other social activities. About 25% pupils have also said that the problem has made them want to give up on life.
Emma, 20, experienced mental health problems in her early teens. Her mother, Nadine Peacock said that parents of other children at the school firstly understood her, but then avoided her.“I felt quite let down by people. They were quick to judge(评判) without asking me about what was really going on. We all felt shame of it,” she said.
Daniela Beck, 19, said she started to experience mental health problems at the age of 12.“ Some of my friends thought I was strange. They would say things like,‘ Why are you crying Nothing is wrong with you!’ These words made me feel even lonelier,” she said.
Making mental health a part of everyday conversation can make it easier if there are problems. You probably can't solve or change anything, but giving your child and your friend space to talk, without a fear of being judged, can really make a difference. Talking about mental health can be hard— for young people, for teachers, and for parents— but often it is a first step towards greater understanding.
