Most of this waste is buried(填埋) in landfills(垃圾清理场), which may pollute water and soil. Moreover, we are running out of space for new landfills.
In fact, more than half of our waste can be recycled. Recyclable rubbish can be made into new materials, while wet rubbish can be used to make gas, heat and fertilizer. But in order to recycle efficiently, we need to sort our rubbish.

All over the world, our oceans, lakes, and rivers are full of rubbish. There's a lot of plastic rubbish on the Pacific Ocean right now and much of it is the result of our own littering. Some waterways in Europe suffer the same problem, and the EU has enforced a law against using single- use plastic since March.
To bring awareness to the problem of water pollution, GreenKayak, a Denmark environmental group is letting travelers kayak(划皮艇) for free on a number of Europe's rivers and lakes— as long as they pick up any rubbish they find along the way.
GreenKayakers are provided with the basics: a life vest, a paddle, a rubbish picker, a bucket(蒌) for the rubbish, and two hours of free kayak- time. You don't need to be an experienced kayaker or a swimming lover, as you won't need to keep direct physical touch with the water.
Since the program began in April 2017, GreenKayakers have collected nearly24,000 pounds of rubbish from European waterways, including plastic bags, bottles, shoes, and big handbags.
“ In Denmark, people hang out on rivers and eat pizza. Unluckily, they see rubbish floating by,” Tobias Weber- Anderson, one of GreenKayak’s cofounders, told USA Today.“ You can't take your shirt off and jump in, but you can get in a kayak and make a difference.”
Now, the program provides kayaks in cities throughout Germany, Ireland, Norway, and Denmark. If you want to take advantage of the free kayak, tour a city from its river, and do your part to improve the problem of water pollution, you can sign up(报名) for a time on Greenkayak's website.

E- waste is fast becoming a serious problem around the world. This report will examine this problem and provide some possible ways to solve it.
We live in a society that is producing and using electronics(电子产品) all the time. It is often cheaper to buy new products than to repair old ones. Also, through clever advertising, companies always encourage people to change their old TVs, mobile phones and computers for the latest models. E- waste is created when we throw away old ones. In the EU alone, about 8,700,000 tons of e- waste is produced each year. Sadly, just over 1,000,000 tons is recycled.
Burying(填埋) e- waste or burning it causes serious problems for the environment. Electronics have dangerous things in them. These things can then get into the ground or pollute the air when they are burnt.
In recent years, ▲ . However, their plans are not always managed properly. Sometimes electronics are just sent to poor countries such as Ghana. Here they are often burnt in public areas, which is very bad for people's health. Setting up recycling centers is a good way to solve this problem. E- cycling centers could recycle the parts that can be reused and deal with the rest properly.
Another way is to make producers responsible(负责任) for their used products. This means that producers must take back old products which are no longer wanted. They should then make sure they are properly recycled or reused.
As for us, we should try to cut down on e- waste. Change electronics only when we have to. And don't buy a product just to have the latest model.
E- waste is a serious problem in the modern world. Both producers and users must take actions and try to keep it to the smallest amount.
