The first day at school gave me a terrible feeling. It was my mother who first thought of sending me to school. When my mother expressed it I thought that she was a heartless woman.
My father took me to a school which was a new place for me. Teachers and students were strangers to me. When I entered the school I felt nervous. The atmosphere of the school was calm and quiet, and I was not used to it. It was an old and well- known school in our city. My father was a student there in his childhood. He knew the headmaster before and greeted him with a smile.
My father introduced me to the headmaster and requested him to accept me into the school. He agreed and allowed me to attend the class. I became nervous again. Then my father left me in the classroom and went away. I was about to cry.
However, the kind headmaster and the class teacher soon made me calm down. The class teacher asked for my name and some information . I answered most of his questions carefully. He became pleased and advised me to buy the textbooks.
At first, I was not able to understand why there were so many teachers. Then the bell rang. The class teacher left our class and another teacher came. All the students in our class stood up again except me. Other students looked at me strangely. Later, I understood that the teacher taught us simple mathematics. After a busy morning, the final bell rang. The time finally came when my father came to take me home from school. I couldn't help crying the moment I saw him and ran up into his arms.
Many years have gone by and my first day at school is still impressive(印象深刻的). I hope I can keep this memory in my heart forever.

If you go into the woods with friends, stay with them. If you get lost, this is what you should do.
▲ Sit down and stay where you are. Don't try to find friends. Let them find you. You can help them to find you by staying in one place.
▲ Another way to help your friends or other people nearby find you is giving them a signal(信号) by shouting or whistling three times. Then stop. Then shout
or whistle three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help. Keep up shouting or whistling, always three times together. If so, people will know you are not making noise for fun. If they hear you, they will give you two shouts, two whistles or two gun shots. When a signal is given twice, it is an answer to a call for help. If you don't think you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house— cover up the holes with branches with lots of leaves. Make yourself a soft bed with grass and leaves. If you need to drink water, pick up some small branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back. The most important thing to do is to stay in one place when you are lost.

Humans share Earth with many different kinds of wildlife. However, many of our animal and plant friends may not be around for much longer.
According to the first comprehensive(综合性的) report on biodiversity(生物多样性) released by the United Nations in May 2019, 1 million of Earth's 8 million species are in danger of extinction, including amphibians(两栖动物), marine mammals(海洋哺乳动物) and insects.
Humans are mainly to blame for this, according to the report. The world's population has more than doubled( from 3.7 to 7.6 billion) in the last 50 years. Humans have used more than a third of the world's land and 75 percent of freshwater supplies(供给) to grow crops and keep livestock(牲畜). As a result, there are fewer habitats and natural resources available for animals, as well as more pollution.
Climate change is another reason. The world's coral reefs(珊瑚礁) are suffering from climate change. If the world warms up by another 0.5℃, coral reefs will be reduced in size by 70 to 90 percent, the report said.
This has led scientists to believe that there could be a sixth mass extinction(大灭绝), the first to be caused by humans, according to the Guardian. There have been five mass extinctions before, the last being 65 million years ago. That was when dinosaurs went extinct.
To deal with this problem, many countries have taken action. For example, China started banning(禁止) ivory(象牙) trading in 2016, China Daily reported.
According to HuffPost, there are things that we can do personally to save animal species. For example, we can avoid buying products that come from animals and use less water.
“ Each individual(个人) action has an effect and every person can make a difference— through a mass we can turn the tide,” said Claudia Sobrevila from the Global Wildlife Program, according to the World Bank.
( )37. What are the two major causes of this problem
A. A growing population and pollution.
B. Pollution and climate change.
C. A growing population and wasted resources.
D. Climate change and human activity.
( )38. The possibility of a sixth mass extinction shows that .
A. the problem is serious
B. the problem is normal
C. nothing can be done to save most animals
D. humans will go extinct as well
( )39. What do we know from the last two paragraphs
A. Many countries have taken action.
B. Every person's effort matters.
C. Animal products will not be available.
D. Humans should raise more animals.
( )40. What will the writer write next
A. What actions humans can take to save animals.
