Recently I watched a movie called Home Coming (《万里归途》). It’s about China saving its people from other countries.
A war breaks out in a country in North Africa. Millions of Chinese people are in danger. They look forward to coming back to China and seeing their family. The Chinese government begins to help them leave right away.
One thing touched me the most. When Zong Dawei, the main character, finally gets back home, it is Chinese New Year. The sound of fireworks (爆竹) is everywhere. This is a happy moment, but because of his bad experiences in North Africa, Zong is scared of these sounds.
The contrast (对比) between the gunfire in war and the fireworks in peace taught me the cruelty (残酷) of war, the hard-won peace and the hard work of my motherland to let us live a safe life. It not only lets me feel the power of our motherland but also makes me feel proud (自豪的) of being Chinese.
After seeing the movie, I’ve made a decision to work hard, hoping that I can work for the development of China in the future.

My father woke me up early one summer morning when I was fourteen and said, “Get up. You’re going with me to cut the grass (草) in the garden.”
My father thought I was old enough to help him do some work. From the morning to evening, my father, my younger brother and I worked in a large garden. By the end of the day I was very tired but only got $2 for my work that day. This was my first time to help my father. Then I must clean the garden on Sundays.
One Sunday, I didn’t clean the garden because I got up late and thought the pay was too low. When my father came back in the evening, He was very angry and said seriously, “If you only think about money, you won’t learn a lot from every job.” I was upset and didn’t understand why he was so strict with me at that time, but today I value what my father taught to me that day.
After two years, I left home and went to another town to start my new life. Luckily for me, I quickly found a job to wash dishes in a restaurant. Every day, I got up early and came back late. In fact, washing dishes was not exciting or easy, but that didn’t matter. It taught me that any job was a good job and whatever I got from the job was more than I had before.
Now I’m twenty. I’m the boss of ten famous restaurants. A newspaper reporter once asked me how someone could possibly live with hard work and low pay. “If you only think about hard work and money, ________,” I answered.
In every job, from cutting the grass to washing dishes, from a cleaner to a dishwasher (洗碗工), I’ve learned much. I’ve learned something that helps me in my next job.
52. Why did the writer feel upset on that Sunday
A. Because he was not old enough to help his family. B. Because his father was so strict with him.

54. Which of the following can be put in the ________

①The tradition of keeping singing and fighting crickets (蟋蟀) was from ancient time and ancient people.
②Cricket Culture in China has a 2000-year history. Before Tang Dynasty (唐朝), people only liked the crickets’ wonderful singing. During Tang Dynasty, the Emperor’s family took crickets to bed to hear their singing during the night. Other people thought it was a wonderful hobby and followed. In Song Dynasty, cricket fighting became a popular sport. People in the city and village all collected crickets with great interest every summer.
③Although some people simply enjoyed crickets’ beautiful singing, for most cricket keepers in the past, fighting was the final goal (目的). Do you know some rules about the cricket fighting
④“Before putting the crickets in one box, people would weigh them and match them up according to size, weight, and color.” said Zhou Jisheng, a historian on cricket culture.
⑤Usually, the fight could finish in a few minutes. But for some strong crickets, it might last half an hour or even 45 minutes.
⑥“The two crickets bite (咬) each other with their jaws (颌). Sometimes, they might lose their legs in the fight, but they still jumped and bite until death,” Zhou said. “They were really brave.”
⑦A cricket fight in China was popular (流行), but why did this small animal become a big success with ancient Chinese people
⑧Some history experts think that ancient Chinese took the singing crickets as good luck. As cricket fighting got more popular in Song Dynasty, people began sending thousands of their best crickets to the emperor as gifts. Then other people all followed the emperor’s lead and began to keep crickets as pets.

Now more and more Chinese teenagers find life more difficult without their parents. They don’t know how to do housework, because their parents do almost everything for them at home. This is a big problem.
Joy is 14 years old. One day her parents went on a trip to Shanghai, so she had to stay at home alone. At first she thought she would be happy because her parents were not in. She could do everything that she liked. But it was seven o’clock in the evening, she felt hungry. “Oh, it’s time to have supper. Where can I get my food ” she said to herself. Later she found some food in the fridge, but she didn’t know how to cook. At that moment, she missed her parents very much. At last she could only go to a restaurant to eat.
Many of teenagers are the same as Joy. So I think teenagers should learn some basic life skills such as tidying up their rooms, dressing themselves, cooking some simple dishes and so on. They shouldn’t depend on their parents too much, either. Learning to be independent is quite important for them.

Being good with parents is important for students. It can make everyone grow up happily. But how can we be good with parents Here is my advice.
First, we should help with housework. I usually sweep the floor, and do some washing at the weekend. Second, we had better communicate with them as much as possible. For example, I often share some interesting school life with them. Third, we should care for them. Health should come first. I think parents should eat more vegetables and fruit and do more exercise in order to keep healthy. They shouldn’t stay up late. Last but not least, we can hold family activities. I sometimes go fishing with my father. At the weekend, my family have a big dinner together.
In a word, we should spend more time with parents and pay more attention to them.
