English is very important to us in the modern world. Many people want to learn it well. Here are some things that I want to say about learning English.
You need two things to learn English well—passion and good learning methods(方法), and passion is the more important one. Why Because passion makes you want to learn English, the learning methods only tell you how to do it better and faster.
If you love learning English, you’ll do it regularly and spend more time on it. Learning English will be easier for you. It’ll be easy for you to remember new words and grammars. ______. For example, some people like history and know everything about World War II. If you told a “normal person” to memorize(记忆)all these facts, they would never do it. We know you may not love learning English. And even if you love it, you won’t do it sometimes. This is how human psychology(心理)works—sometimes we’re very lazy and tired, so we don’t want to do anything though we like it very much.
When you don’t feel like learning English, you can do the following things:
First, imagine that you can talk to native speakers just like you talk in your native language. Imagine other people speak English as well as you do. Imagine the possibility of writing e-mail to people from all over the world.
Second, remember there’s a lot that you don’t know. You’re good, but your English probably isn’t good enough. Maybe you can’t understand English-language TV programs, read books in English, talk to English native speakers easily, or write letters without mistakes, etc.
Lastly, use English whenever you can. This is very, very important. The more you use English, the more you’ll want to learn it. Because English is so popular, you can use it everywhere. You can watch American cartoons, you can sing English songs, and you can read interesting books written in English.

第三节 阅读下面短文,根据其内容填空或回答问题。 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Usually, when we talk about reading, we think of using our eyes to see letters written in ink on paper. However, this is not always true. For example, blind people cannot see, but they can still read books.
The man who introduced blind people to reading was Louis Braille. Braille lost his eyesight at the age of three. When he was ten, he went to a school for the blind in Paris. In those days, books for blind people used paper pressed against metal wire to form letters. Since the metal wire was heavy, each book weighed as much as 100 pounds. Indeed, the school library only had fourteen such books in it.
In 1821, a soldier(士兵)visited the school and showed the students a system (系统)for passing messages at night. His system used paper with small, raised dots that could be felt with the fingers. Each letter of the alphabet was symbolized by a different pattern which consisted of twelve dots. The soldiers would pull their fingers over the raised dots to read the message.
While the students found the soldier’s idea interesting, the system was too difficult to be of practical use. However, young Louis Braille took the idea and worked on it. At the age of fifteen, he created a system with patterns of six raised dots symbolizing each letter. “Braille”, the system for reading used today by blind people around the world, was thus born.
The blind can easily recognize(辨别)Braille with their fingers. They can also easily write in Braille with a special typewriter. Today, it is the most common system used by blind people for reading and writing, and nearly every language, including Chinese, has its own version(版本)of Braille for its people to use.
51.Who introduced blind people to reading
52.When did a soldier visit the school and show the students a system
53.How old was Louis Braille when he created a system
54.How can Chinese blind recognize “Braille”
55.What do you think of Louis Braille

第二节 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入一个适当的词或括号内单词的正确形式。(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
Learning a foreign language is not a matter of reading some grammar rules or some vocabulary words although 61 (these) are important activities not to be ignored(忽略). Learning a language is learning a skill not 62 / nf me n/. It’s much more like learning to swim or ride a bike than it is like learning about the second World War. That is, you must not only 63 the ideas and have information at hand but also make your body get used to using that information in 64 / f z kl/ activity. When learning a second language, the physical activity is speaking, listening, writing and 65 .
You need then, not only to learn and understand, but also to practice! Here are a few 66 (suggest) on effective practice/study techniques.
1. Make your mouth or hand do what your mind is learning.
Study out loud. Go to the lab and work with tapes. Study with a friend, 67 (practice) speaking and listening. Try to write sentences or a short paragraph using the skills you have practiced with your own lips.
2. Study day by day.
You cannot get by in a foreign language course by cramming(填鸭式的学习)at the last minute. You 68 be able to “learn” vocabulary items that way, but you cannot teach your mouth to use them in sentences.
3. Sometimes go back and review “old” topics and vocabulary.
Language learning is cumulative(累计的). The new skills you learn build upon the old skills you learned in the past. The more your “recycle” familiar information and skills, the 69 (well) you will be able to take in new ones.
4. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
Shyness can be a strong barrier(障碍)to learning a language. Perhaps part of the reason small children like to learn languages is that they are not 70 of making mistakes.
