All about Electric Cars
Electric vehicles(电动车辆) have been around for more than a hundred years. But they have really been liked by a large number of people over the last ten years. More than three million all-electric cars, trucks and vans are now on the road worldwide.
Helping the Environment
Most cars run on gasoline(汽油). Burning gasoline and other fossil fuels(矿物燃料) produces greenhouse gases. Electric vehicles don’t burn gasoline. Instead, strong batteries run their electric engines. So, electric vehicles don’t directly produce greenhouse gases.
Poop Power!
Electric vehicles are better for the environment. But they are not perfect. Their batteries often use electricity(电) that was made by burning fossil fuels. But an electric vehicle uses less energy than a vehicle that runs on gasoline. Plus, some of the electricity comes from “greener” sources, such as solar and wind power. And some may soon come from a new source — cow poop(牛粪)! An electric car company has worked together with a large dairy farm. They plan to make electricity using a greenhouse gas from cow poop.
Always Improving
One of the problems for electric vehicles is their limited range. This is how far they can travel before their batteries need another charge(充电). But now their range is improving. Some new electric vehicles can travel almost three times as far as older ones did. Another problem is finding a place to recharge the batteries. But the number of charging stations is going up as well. China now has thousands more charging stations than it did ten years ago. In Sweden, engineers have even designed a road that will charge electric vehicles as they drive along.

A. Useless B. Popular. C. Cheap. D. Perfect.
5. What does the picture above show
A. Parts of an electric car. B. Ways of driving a car.

6. How does the electric car company plan to make electricity according to Paragraph 3?
A. By burning gasoline. B. By burning fossil fuels.
C. By using a gas coming from cow poop. D. By using solar and wind power.
7. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. Reasons for buying new electric cars. B. Importance of electric cars in our life.
C. Ways to produce more electric vehicles. D. Problems and improvements of electric vehicles.

Delia was a young pianist. Her husband Joe was a talented young painter. They lived in a small flat in New York.
Each of them was taking lessons - Joe with a famous art teacher, and Delia with a great pianist from Germany. They were the best teachers, so lessons were expensive, more than they could really afford, but …when you love your art, nothing’s too much.
But soon, the money began to run out and they couldn’t afford the lessons any more.
Then one day Delia came home and told Joe that she had met a man. The man s daughter, Sally, wanted to learn the piano — and he was going to pay her $50 an hour.

A few days later, Joe came home and proudly took $200 from his pocket. “I met a man from Vermont,” he said, “who bought one of my paintings. And he wants to buy more!”
Then, one day, Joe came home and saw that Delia’s hand was burned. He asked her what had happened. “Oh,” said Delia. “My student, Sally, asked me to pour some coffee for her. So I did - and I dropped the coffee and burned my hand.”

Joe looked at her. “There’s no man in Vermont,” he said. “I haven’t sold any paintings. I’ve been working in a drugstore (药店),and today someone came from the coffee shop to buy cream for a woman who’d burned her hand. So when I saw you — well,I guessed.”
They both laughed. “So we’ve told each other lies,” said Joe. “But when you love your art ..,”
Delia put her fingers to his lips (嘴唇). “No, Joe,” she said, “just ‘When you love ...’”

Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits.1 .
Create an interest in what they learn.
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active. 2 . Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something they are interested in. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programmes in English. This way they will not get bored.
3
Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practise more. Remember, “use it or lose it”! Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. Good learners are also not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
Develop their study skills.
It is not enough to just study hard. You have to know how to study.4 For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. Good learners also look for ways to review what they have learned.
Ask questions.
Good learners often ask questions during or after class. 5 Knowledge comes from questioning.
