When Merle was a child, she was often sick. To get stronger, she took up swimming. Soon, she was taking part in open-water swimming competition. Merle moved to Florida 13 years ago, but she continued to swim in the ocean. One day during training, she almost swallowed (吞) some floating plastic waste. This made her think of the sea animals. She decided to do something to let people see this serious problem.
Merle had an idea of swimming like an ocean animal. She began to swim with rubbery fin (脚蹼) on her feet. Instead of using her arms, she swam forward by kicking her legs together. In 2019, Merle set a world record for the first time for swimming with a rubbery fin. She swam 10 kilometers. In 2021, she broke the record by swimming 30 kilometers. But Merle believed she could go farther. Every day, she got up at 4 a.m., put on her fin and went swimming.
Finally, on May 7, 2022, Merle managed to break the record again. She swam 42.2 kilometers. It took her nearly 12 hours! Along the way, she picked up all the trash and put it in kayak (皮划艇). She got three full bags of the trash in the end.

Many people are active in fighting against unfair treatment to animals. Today I am talking about fighting for looking after our environment. Though the environment doesn’t have a mouth to cry what people have done to her, she does through action.
In the early years some people cut down some trees, leading to the disappearance of big forests and terrible floods(洪水). Another example was many factories, freeing gas without clearing it. Many cities were covered with so much bad gas that people were killed by the air. It’s a terrible scene!
If we don’t take action to show honor to the environment, we will have to face an increasingly awful situation. First, governments should keep rivers, lakes, oceans... Second, voices should be made to the public of the importance of protecting the environment. Third, plants should pay special attention to the effect they have on the environment and work out solutions for the problems.
Only by changing the way we treat the environment can we have a nice home. Only by saving the environment can we save ourselves.

A.One. B.Two. C.Three.

I finally stopped fighting my lifelong love of traveling. I left my job to do it full time. I’ve been traveling the world on my own since 2018. In the past years, I’ve been to 25 countries (if not for COVID-19, it would have been at least 10 more!). Now I’d like to talk about my experience in New Zealand.
Of the two islands in New Zealand, I liked the North Island better. It was my first stop. When I was in Wellington, I stayed in Karori. It only needs a 10-minute bus ride to the center. I got a beautiful view of the city and went to a free museum. I learned about the city’s past there. Rotorua is also a good place. It is known for its hot springs and mudbaths (泥浴). I had never heard of an acidic (酸性的) pool, but I found that it did help with aches and pains. Then I spent half a day learning about Maori customs and starting with a village tour. After a walk around the shops, I enjoyed a lot of corn cooked in their thermal baths (温泉浴).
After visiting the North Island, I went to the South Island. Lake Tekapo might be the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. Its color in the sun forced me to sit down and enjoy. The night sky was wonderful, with a small church for perfect photos. I had to say that the mutton here was really delicious. It was a pity that I ate it only when I was about to leave the island.
All in all, I was lucky to experience the wonders of both islands and the culture. I started my blog, Heather Begins. You can find some advice on a journey in New Zealand there.
36.When did the writer start travelling the world by himself
37.Did the writer stay near the center of New Zealand
38.What can the springs and mudbaths at Rotorua help people with
39.Why did the writer think it was a pity to have the delicious mutton
40.According to the passage, which place of interest in New Zealand will you recommend (推荐) to others
