(2024·广东广州·一模)William Butler Yeats, was an Irish poet and dramatist and one of the foremost figures of 20th-century literature. He was born in Dublin on June 13,1865, His childhood lacked the harmony (和睦) that was typical of a happy family. Later, Yeats shocked his family by saying that he remembered “little of childhood but its pain”. In fact, he inherited excellent taste in art from his family—both his father and his brother were painters. But he finally settled on literature, particularly drama and poetry.
Yeats had strong faith in coming of new artistic movements. He set himself the fresh task in founding an Irish national theatre in the late 1890s. His early theatrical experiments however were not received favorably at the beginning. He didn’t lose heart, and finally enjoyed success in his poetical drama.
Compared with his dramatic works, Yeats’s poems attract much admiring notice. The subject matter includes love, nature, history, time and aging. Though Yeats generally relied on very traditional forms, he brought modern sensibility to them. As his literary life progressed, his poetry grew finer and richer, which led him to worldwide recognition.
Yeats is considered one of the few writers whose greatest works were completed after being awarded the Nobel Prize, which he won in 1923. He continued writing almost to the end of his life, producing his greatest works between the ages of 50 and 75. Had Yeats stopped writing at age 40, he would probably now be valued as a minor poet, as there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produces his greatest works between these ages. Such works include The Tower (1928) and The Winding Stair and Other Poems (1929).
After suffering from a variety of illnesses for several years, Yeats died in Menton, 1939. The last poem he wrote was the The Black Tower. After Yeats’s death, W. H. Auden wrote, among others, the falling liners:
Earth, receive an honoured guest:

(2024·广东广州·一模)When you think of a new place for growing food, you might think of Mars. But one Italian family believes one possible place is right here on the Earth: the ocean.
Nemo’s Garden is the world’s first underwater system of land plants. Located off the coast of Noli, Italy, it is made up of several greenhouses. Each of them is connected to the seafloor. “The aim of it is to change farming, and add a possibility for growing plants in the ocean. What we have on Earth will be used up one day, and such gardens can offer us added space.” says Luca, the son of the family.
Luca’s father, who enjoys diving and gardening, came up with the idea. In 2012, the family began with planting basil underwater. Now Nemo’s Garden is growing strong.
According to Luca, underwater planting has some advantages over traditional farming. In their garden, growing six to ten meters underwater, the plants are separated from any outside viruses. The temperature of the ocean water is also perfect for plants. Besides, with high technology, Nemo’s Garden uses water-based nutrients (养分) instead of soil.
What’s more, there is little influence on the underwater environment, so no harm is caused to sea creatures.
More work is done to make sure underwater planting works well. Everything is watched and checked on land through cameras and sensors. And if there is something wrong, the family will change the settings in the greenhouses. When it’s time to collect the vegetables, a diver will cut them, place them in bags and send them to the surface.
“Many local people were doubtful about our idea. Some people are realizing that it works, and it helps put Noli on the tourist map.” Luca says, “We need someone who thinks about crazy things. It might be something, or it might not. But we have the courage to try. We have bigger plans although it will take years to work on them.”

Listen to hot water poured into tea cups. Taste melon seeds (瓜子) or boiled peanuts. And tea houses are the right places for you and should always be on your must-go list.
Sichuan is one of China’s major tea-producing regions. Chengdu was famous for its tea houses as early as the Tang dynasty. For centuries, tea houses were places for fun and tea. There, customers can enjoy storytelling, music, and especially Sichuan Opera. That is not a popular art these days, but Yuelai Teahouse beside Jinjiang Theater still arranges operas every Saturday afternoon.
You will find most of Chengdu’s traditional tea houses in parks. Heming Teahouse in Renmin Park attracts lunchtime office workers and afternoon visitors. When noise gets too much because of more visitors, move on to Shaocheng Teahouse in the same park. Visitors are older and quieter. They bring songbirds, hanging their cages in trees and have fun. However, new-style tea houses have been opened to attract the younger generation. They want to have a taste for traditional teas in a more modern style. The most famous one of them is Mi Xun Teahouse in Taikoo Li, which is right in the city’s most fashionable shopping area.
As in all tea houses, the tea comes in separate packets which can be kept warm. Maofeng green tea from Mount Emei, south of Chengdu, is the traditional favorite. Shake the leaves into your cup. Don’t let the water in your cup get too low, since any bad taste from the leaves is on the bottom. You can enjoy your tea all afternoon and order nothing else.
In Chengdu tea houses, people relax themselves by staying away from busy work and life. The capital of Sichuan is developing fast too, but has managed to keep its slower style that has been lost in many other Chinese cities.

(2024·广东广州·一模)How do plants grow in space An experiment at the Tiangong space station can provide the answer. Chinese astronauts have successfully grown rice seedlings (幼苗), which may show us how astronauts can cultivate food to support long-term space flights.
“The rice seedlings are growing very well.” Zheng Huiqiong, a scientist at the Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told China Daily. Since the rice experiment began on July 29, 2022, the seedlings of the tall shoot rice variety (高杆水稻品种) have reached a height of about 30 centimeters. Plus, the seedlings of the dwarf rice variety (矮秆水稻品种) have grown to around 5 centimeters.
While there have been other rice experiments in space, the one being conducted on Tiangong is the first of its kind. It aims to produce the complete life cycle of the plant, which begins with a seed and ends with a grown plant producing new seeds.
The astronauts will keep studying the plants. If the experiment is successful, they will collect the newly produced seeds and bring them back to Earth for further studies, Zheng added.
Since the 1980s, China has been taking the seeds of crops to space. But growing rice in orbit is a different challenge due to the hard conditions in space. Micro-gravity, no air and high-energy cosmic rays may make it hard for the plants to grow.
Rice has been the most important food for astronauts for a long time. US astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission—the first humans to land on the moon in July 1969—ate freeze-dried chicken and rice during their trip to space.
If such an experiment goes well, astronauts will be able to grow their food in orbit, reducing how much food has to be taken on space flights.

A.find B.grow C.waste D.cook
23.What is the purpose of describing the heights of the rice varieties in Paragraph 2
A.To tell us about the scientists’ work. B.To make us interested in space exploration.
C.To show the rice experiment is going well. D.To introduce different types of rice seedlings.
24.What is special about the rice experiment being done on Tiangong
A.It’s the first rice experiment in space.
B.The gravity on Earth will influence the growing of the rice.
C.It’s the first experiment to try to produce rice in a complete life cycle.
D.If it works, the newly produced rice plant will be brought back to Earth.
25.What are the last two paragraphs mainly about
A.Future space missions. B.The importance of the rice experiment.
C.The best food choices for astronauts. D.Changes in astronauts’ food through history.
(2024·广东广州·一模)Do you know that most of the energy we use comes from the Sun For example, we use wind energy and hydro energy to produce electricity. Besides, the Sun helps plants to grow. Plants that grew millions of years ago turned into coal, oil, and natural gas. We call these fossil fuels (化石燃料).
However, fossil fuels make pollution. This is bad for the Earth. Fossil fuels are also nonrenewable. Some day they will be gone. So, scientists want people to use green energy. Why is green energy important First, it is clean. It doesn’t hurt the Earth. Next, it is renewable. It won’t run out. Green energy gives us more than 30% of the electricity we use today.
What are the main sources (来源) of green energy
Water Power
Water power uses moving water in rivers and dams. Moving water has energy. Water power makes 16.6% of the electricity we use.
Wind Power
Is wind power new No, it isn’t. People used wind power many years ago. Wind power makes 4% of the electricity we use.
Solar Power
Solar power comes from sunlight. The Sun shines on solar panels, and electricity is made. Solar power is now as cheap as some fossil fuels. It makes 8% of the electricity we use.
Biomass (生物质能)
Biomass is energy that we get from plants around us. For example, deadwood or grass is burned in power stations. This makes electricity. Biomass is green energy because we plant new trees or crops after we use them. Biomass makes 2% of the electricity we use.
New Green Energy
The ocean rises and falls each day. This moving water can make electricity. We call it tidal power. There is also heat under the Earth’s surface. ▲ We may find other sources of green energy in the future.
Some day, green energy could make 100% of the electricity we use. That’s good news for the Earth!
26.How does the writer develop Paragraph 1
A.By giving examples. B.By telling stories.
C.By listing numbers. D.By comparing facts.
27.Why do scientists suggest using green energy
A.It is easy to produce it. B.It is as cheap as fossil fuels.
C.It is clean and won’t be used up. D.It is the main source of electricity now.
28.Choose the best sentence to fill in the blank “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 8.
A.But the heat can’t make electricity.
B.The heat is from the moving water in the ocean.
C.The sunlight can shine directly on the Earth’s surface.
D.Scientists can use this heat for energy, which is called heat power.
29.What is the purpose of the passage
A.To advise people to plant more green trees.
B.To introduce some kinds of green energy.
C.To share some ideas on how to use green energy.
D.To suggest what people can do to protect the Earth.
(23-24九年级下·广东广州·阶段练习)Known as “soft gold”, Gambiered Canton gauze (香云纱) is the only silk fabric (织物) that’s still hand-dyed (手染的) using natural plants in the world today.
The skill has a history of more than 500 years. In 2008, it was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家非物质文化遗产). Ouyang Yongze is an inheritor of the dyeing skills from Guangdong. The man started learning the skills in 2017.
The dyeing process includes 30 steps. It can take up to six months and is done by hand with materials from nature. “The plant shuliang (薯莨), river mud, sunshine, and grass are all important in dyeing,” Ouyang told China Daily.
To dye the fabric, workers put it in shuliang juice and let it dry on the grass. They repeat this many times until it turns brownish yellow. Then, they put river mud on it to help shuliang react fully. After washing and drying it again, the fabric turns black!
Mastering the skills is difficult, according to Ouyang, who put full effort into controlling the density (浓度) of shuliang juice. “Too much may cause color loss, and too little may nor lead to a dark enough fabric,” he said. “Better control of the density comes after many failures.”
Also, the job can be really tiring as workers have to be at work in the sun for 8 hours each day. Only a few people work in the industry, and skilled masters are getting older as fewer young people take part.
Considering this, Ouyang works harder to develop the traditional craft. He has got together other dyeing skills such as tie-dyeing (扎染法) and batik (蜡染) and has worked with famous fashion designers. They turn the silk into both traditional and fashionable clothes that are popular worldwide. He thinks this can help make the craft stay alive and drew people to the industry.
30.Which of the following is the right order of dyeing Gambiered Canton gauze
① Repeat many times until the fabric turns brownish-yellow.
② Dry the fabric on the grass.
③ Put the fabric in Shuliang juice.
④ Put river mud on the fabric to help shuliang react fully.
A.④②①③ B.①④③② C.②④③① D.③②①④

B.Every teenager should be a(n) ________ of our Chinese culture to pass it down.
C.Finally, Maria became the ________ of the singing competition.
D.Bell, the ________ of the telephone, made the first call.
32.What does paragraph 6 mainly talk about
A.The job is difficult but popular. B.Some artists are coming to help the workers.
C.Passing down the skills is challenging. D.The job seems to become easier than before.
33.What can we infer from the passage
A.Water is important in the color during dyeing.
B.Ouyang only fails a few times before he controls the density better.
C.There are no people taking part in this industry.
D.The dyeing process needs great patience, excellent skills and hard work.
(23-24九年级下·广东广州·阶段练习)Sending astronauts to Mars is a big challenge. Astronauts will have to ate everything they need, including food, air and water. The room inside the spaceship is too limited to hold many things. So packing a spaceship is a huge challenge for a trip to Mars.
Six astronauts on an eight-month tip to Mars will need at least 18,000 kilograms of water for drinking and washing. They’ll also need water to protect themselves from space rays which can pass right through spaceship walls and harm astronauts’ living cells. But a layer of water placed around the ship can stop the harm.
That’s a lot of water. And sending water into space is too expensive. It costs $33,000 to send one cup of water to Mars. The more you take, the more it costs. We have the technology to get to Mars, but the problem is that it’s too expensive.
But Flynn, an engineer at NASA, thinks he has a way of solving the problem. Instead of building a heavy spaceship and packing it full of stuff (物料), why not use the stuff as part of the spaceship
Imagine a spaceship that blows up like a balloon. Inside, the walls have pockets like a big honeycomb (蜂巢). These hold lots of plastic bags filled with water, dried food and algae. All these make hard walls and great radiation (辐射) protection. And stopping radiation does not influence the food or water itself — it is safe to eat and drink. And what if the same water could be reused again and again Flynn and his team call their packed-pocket idea Water Walls.
Making oxygen and taking away CO2—the waste gas you breathe out—is another problem in space. “Water Walls will take away CO2 the same way it’s done here on our Earth—with living plants,” Flynn says. Living plants make in CO2 to make their food, and give off oxygen. “Plants are hard to grow in a spacecraft, so we use algae,” he says.
Algae are tiny plants that live in water. The algae will live in bags in the walls too, fed by human waste and sunlight, eating up CO2 and making oxygen for the astronauts to breathe.
Flynn thinks his onboard recycling system has many advantages. He hopes it will help make flying to Mars a reality very soon.
34.What does the underlined phrase “limited ” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean
A.Small in size. B.Including only a part.
C.Different from other parts. D.Being freely used.
35.What is the advantage of Flynn’s system
A.Food is saved. B.Cost is saved.
C.Travelling time is saved. D.Plastic bags are saved.
36.What is one of the purposes of Flynn’s idea of Water Walls
A.To produce water in the spaceship.
B.To make the whole spaceship stronger.
C.To prevent space rays during the space trip.
D.To control the temperature in the spaceship.
37.Why are algae put in the plastic bags
A.To serve as food for astronauts.
B.To provide oxygen for astronauts.
C.To prevent water from being polluted.
D.To help other plants grow in a spaceship.
