Hello everyone, I want to share a story. My friend’s daughter Vivi is small for her age. She is 11, (17) but she only wears clothes for a 6-year-old kid. Last summer, she cried at the amusement park because she was too small to go on roller coasters(过山车) or other rides. (18) Other children laughed at her because she is tiny compared with her friends. But you know what She is especially good at swimming, and she moves through the water “like a fish”. In fact, Vivi is such a good swimmer that she has been chosen for the local team and will take part in national competitions. Vivi is proud of her strength. B
I loved books from a very young age, and they opened my mind to all kinds of possibilities.
I journeyed with Meg Murry to save her family; I learned about friendship and sacrifice (牺牲)
from Charlotte’s Web. Books helped me understand what it was like to walk in someone else’s
shoes; they helped me dream about imaginary worlds.
Despite reading all kinds of stories, I never read one about someone like me. I didn’t realize
what I was missing until as an adult, I finally read a story that reflected some of my personal
experiences. That book was The Namesake. This was world-changing for me. It made me
recognize how powerful it is to see yourself in a book, and it made me realize that every person
—especially every young person—deserves to feel this way.
While my children were growing up, we read all kinds of books together, and the range of
voices in children’s literature was wider ... but still not wide enough.
When I started writing, it took me a while to stop writing about “typical” Americans and
start writing about people who shared my own background. I still hadn’t truly realized that
others might be interested in reading stories about people like me—that our stories are worthy of
being told. Once I started writing these kinds of stories, I couldn’t stop.
I’m honored to join so many authors from diverse backgrounds who are writing books for
young people today. We use our lived experiences and our imaginations to bring new stories to
light—stories that reflect the incredible world in which we live.
Looking forward, I hope to see an even greater range of stories in children’s literature. To
prepare to be a citizen in our diverse world, every child needs to gain insight into people who are
not exactly like them. And I hope that every child gets to experience the thrill of seeing
themselves in a book so they know they are understood, appreciated, and loved, so they
recognize that they can be the heroes of their own stories.
24. Which word best describes the author’s relationship with books as a child
A. Cooperative. B. Sensitive. C. Inseparable. D. Uncomfortable.
25. What did the author realize after reading The Namesake
A. The power of a reflection of one’s own life in literature.
B. The ability of adults to appreciate the impact of literature.
C. The necessity for authors to share their own experiences.
D. The poor quality of children’s literature on an individual.
26. What does the underlined word“thrill”mean in the last paragraph
A. Relief. B. Surprise. C. Anxiety. D. Excitement.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Reading journey: journeys for your adventures
B. Seeing ourselves: stories worthy of being told
C. Original stories: stories that are not adapted

Many dishes make up the world of Garifuna food, but hudutu is probably its signature (明
显的特色) . The dish is closest to Yolanda Castillo’s heart.
The head chef of Chicago’s Garifuna Flava, Castillo developed a love for food earlier. It
was in her native country of Belize that she learned the secrets of making hudutu. “My mom
showed me the traditional way of cooking our Garifuna food.” she says.
After moving to Chicago with her husband, Castillo stayed true to her roots, gathering
family members for grand meals. Not a single visit happened without someone praising
Castillo’s ability to copy her mother’s traditional Garifuna recipes.
“My husband would always say, ‘One day, I’m going to open a restaurant for her.’ ” Castillo
says. In 2008, the couple’s restaurant, Garifuna Flava, opened its doors in Chicago. In addition
to Garifuna food, Garifuna Flava serves up Belizean food like rice and beans. “It’s amazing to
see how many people from around the world have been here to taste our Garifuna food.” she
says.
“Garifuna food, in particular, tells us a Caribbean story and a Central American story,” says
López Oro, whose work focuses on later generations of Garifuna immigrants(. 移民)“It gives us
an opportunity to really think about the generational history of Garifuna migration.”
Though hudutu requires much work, Castillo uses a food processor to speed things up. The
more hudutu she’s able to make, the more she’s able to sell— increasing the possibility of
introducing the food to a wider, ever-hungry audience.
“I think people are really devoted to making hudutu a household name,” says López Oro,
referring to the dish and the urgency many Garinagu feel about protecting their history, in part,
through their food’s most famous dish.

In early 2023, OpenAI’s ChatGPT brought a new age—one in which artificial intelligence
(AI) went from a dream to an issue for workers. Many workers may have believed that
burger-flipping (翻汉堡包的) robots in fast food restaurants would be the first to be replaced by
AI tools. Yet the light-speed use of AI tools may now mean knowledge-work jobs that were long
considered “safe” could be endangered even faster than workers expected.
Robots that act like AI coworkers are on the way—and in some cases, they’re already here.
In early December 2023, Artisan AI—a startup founded by Jaspar Carmichae-Jack—showed its
first “Artisan”, an AI-powered digital worker called “Ava” who will work as a saleswoman. “She
can make suggestions, edit campaigns, join meetings and take notes,” Carmichael-Jack says.
“Our goal is to have Artisans working alongside humans directly and have cohesion (凝聚力),
and we want the boring work to be moved onto the Artisan, which doesn’t have feelings about
whether something is boring or difficult.”
Although AI technology is already shaking the workforce, “we’re still at the beginning”
when it comes to AI fully combined into the workplace, says Erik Brynjolfsson, a Stanford
University professor. He says as AI plays a more important role in economical fields, it should
increase output and money for businesses. The question, however, is what the human toll of that
growth will be, particularly in terms of job losses.
Whether the workers are reduced by AI technologies will be a choice. Workers will need to
have the right to decide howAI is introduced and used in some industries. One example of this is
the agreement between the Screen Actors Guild and Hollywood studios that sets limits on the
use of AI in film and television production. The question is whether other industries will follow
the example to protect their workers’ living.
32.What can be learned about knowledge workers
A. They have experienced greater creativity.
B. They have used the AI at the speed of light.
C. They may be at the risk of replacement by AI.
D. They may have a safer working environment.
33.What does Jaspar Carmichael-Jack expect of Artisans
A. They will assist salesmen in their daily work.
B. They will become members of a human team.
C. They will assess the difficulty level of a task.
D. They will make boring work more interesting.
34.Which of the following best explains “toll” underlined in paragraph 3
