On the day in ancient times, people put ash(灰) in the kitchen. This was to “lead the dragon into the house”. People believed that with the help of the dragon, they could have a good harvest(收成) in autumn.
Also, people ea t special foods on that day. The foods are usually named after dragons. For example, people eat “dragon whisker(须)”noodles and dumplings called “dragon teeth”.
Today, many customs have disappeared. But one that has remained is the cutting of hair. It is said that a haircut during the first lunar month may bring bad luck to the uncles of the family mainly mother's brothers. So many people have their hair cut on the Dragon Head Raising Day.

Scientists learned that our thoughts and behavior are influenced by the colors we see.
Colors are called “warm”( red and orange ) and “cool”(blue and green ) for a reason: When we're in a space where the walls are painted in warm colors, we actually feel that the temperature there is warmer than we do in similar spaces painted in cool colors. This makes warm colors good choices for a vestibule(前厅) in a cool climate(气候). Cool colors are good choices for the entrance(入口) to buildings in warm climates, and in rooms that are warm.
Putting a light color on a wall makes that wall seem a little further away than it actually is, while darker colors on walls make them seem even closer than their true positions. So you can use colors to change the shapes of rooms.
The research has also shown the special “powers” of special colors. First, seeing the color green has something to do with creative thinking—so green is a good choice for homes, offices, art rooms, etc. The color pink is believed to calm and reduce aggression(攻击), particularly light or pale pink. In addition, using yellow in a home can be wrong. But yellow may be accepted in dining room because warm colors can help increase our appetite(胃口), encouraging us to eat much. People are more likely to tell you that blue is their favorite color. That makes it a very safe choice.
All in all, colors do have influences in our life and maybe, we may find more in the future.

There are many English proverbs(谚语) that are about “home”. Here are some of the best.
There's no place like home.
There is no place like home means home is the best place to be. This proverb comes from the song Home Sweet Home. 36 Maybe it's not that comfortable, but it's where love and family can be found. After being away for so long, you will always find there's no place like home. So if you have been elsewhere for a long time, you can say “There's no place like home.” as soon as you arrive home to show how you miss your home and parents.
37
Though this proverb also has the word “home”, it's actually about working skills. Sometimes some students do their homework in a really quick way, just in order to save time. 38 At first, people may think it'll save time if they do the job as fast as they can, however, it's easy to make mistakes if they only care about the speed, and more time will be spent to redo the task. 39
Home is where the heart is.
Home doesn't have to be the building that you live in. It is where you most want to be. This is usually wherever someone's family is, or where they grew up. 40 It may be the same city they live in now, the city where they grew up, the house where their parents live, or the place where they are raising their family.
A. So slow down, slow is fast. B. The longest way round is the shortest way home. C. As we grow up, home may come to seem far away and strange. D. It simply means no matter where one is home is always the best. E. This is also true of some adults who have to finish certain tasks. F. Most people have some places in their mind they think as their “home”.

A man always bought oranges from an old lady in the market on his way home. After he paid for them, he would always pick one and taste it. Then he would say to the lady, “It's sour.” and would hand over the orange to the old lady.
The old lady would taste it and say, “It's sweet.” Then, the man would go away. The man's wife always saw this. One day, she asked, “The oranges are sweet. Why do you say they are sour every time ” The man said, “The old lady sells oranges but never eats them. I just try to get her to eat one without losing her money.” A young man who sold vegetables next to the old lady saw this. He asked,“ Each day this man comes and buys your oranges, and I see you always secretly give some more oranges to him. Why ”With a smile on her face, the old lady said, “He just wants me to eat an orange. I know that. So I give him some more.”

As winter comes, hands can easily get cold. Thick gloves might be a good choice, but sometimes wearing them is inconvenient. However, this was not a problem for ancient Chinese people, who had a fine tool to warm their hands: hand warmers.
There is one folk story about its invention. Emperor Yang from the Sui Dynasty visited Jiangsu in winter. Because of the cold, a local official asked craftsmen(工匠人) to make a small warmer for the emperor that could be held in his hands. So, the hand warmer was created.
By the Song Dynasty, the warmers had become popular among the common people. Skills for producing the tool were widely used in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Many poets from this period kept a record of people using hand warmers.
In the early days, copper(铜), as the common materials, was generally used in the production process. It was more suitable than silver, iron and porcelain because it could transfer(传导) heat better, while reducing the risk of breakage or corrosion(腐蚀). Inside a hand warmer, there were coals, some of which were mixed with flowers, giving off a nice smell when burned.
Ancient hand warmers had different designs. Round, square and octagonal shapes were typical, and there were also some fashioned shapes which looked like pumpkins, flowers and turtle shells. The patterns on the warmers would usually be animals or symbols with good meanings, such as deer, flowers or the Chinese characters for long life.
