Did you have cereal(麦片)for breakfast this morning?Lots of people eat cereal for breakfast every day. In fact, cereal is popular all over the world. It all started with one man, Will Keith Kellogg.
Will was born on April 7, 1860, in Michigan. His first job was as a stock boy(理货勤杂工) at the Battle Creek Sanitarium(疗养院). But when he grew up, he became a manager of the sanitarium. His brother, John, was a doctor there.
One big problem at the sanitarium was the patients' diets. The patients needed healthy diets, but it was also important for the food to taste good. 科技对运动员的帮助
Almost everyone loves a good game. However, it's not just athletic(运动的)ability or skill that helps sports players win. Technology can make our lives easier and better in many ways. In sports, technology can help all kinds of players show better.
If you like sports and science, being a sports engineer might be the job for you. Sports engineers are scientists who make sports funnier to play and to watch. They design(设计)better materials(材料), surfaces(表面), and equipment(设备).
Some sports engineers study the way athletes move when they play different sports. An engineer might watch a soccer player to see how the player's foot kicked the ball. This can lead to ideas about soccer shoes, the soccer ball, or even the soccer field. Engineers use these ideas to improve the game in some way.
The first step for a sports engineer is to identify(确认) a problem in a sport—something to be improved. Then the sports engineer comes up with a possible solution. Next, he or she creates a model. The new idea is then tested in a laboratory to see how well it works. Finally, the new product is tested by athletes. If it works well, soon athletes around the world will start to use it.

音乐记忆
Musicians enjoy performing(表演).Learning to play correctly takes time and effort. To perform well, musicians must learn every note(音符), when to play loudly or softly, quickly or slowly, and when to pause(停顿). But that is not enough.
The best musicians believe that performing from memory gets the best results. Memorizing music sounds very hard. But there is a proven(已证实过的) answer: practice, practice, practice!
Before trying to memorize any piece, learn to play it as written. Follow any method your music teacher suggests. Practice until you can play the whole piece perfectly.
Now focus on memorizing. This takes time, but it works. Start small. Focus on short sections, such as a line or two of music. Repeat three times without mistake.Continue until you can do this without looking at the music. Muscles(肌肉) remember what you practice.
Next, memorize longer parts, such as a full page. Repeat without mistake again and again to train your brain and muscles to know just what to do.The problem of memorizing a piece disappears. You're ready to perform!

2. The best musicians believe that performing from memory gets ________________.
3. Before trying to memorize any piece, ________________.

Passage 5
南冰洋——世界第五大洋
There is a new ocean now. The National Geographic Society has recognised the Southern Ocean as the world's fifth ocean. The decision was made in honor of World Oceans Day. It falls on June 8 every year.
All oceans are connected, so in a way, there is only one ocean across the world. But the planet's waters have been traditionally divided into four different areas. Since National Geographic began making maps in 1915, it has only included the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic Oceans. Those maps are now being redrawn(修改) for the first time in over a century.
The Southern Ocean is also known as the Antarctic Ocean, because it lies around Antarctica (南极洲). According to a National Geographic's geographer (地理学家), the body of water has long been recognised by scientists as it forms a different ecological(生态) pared with the waters north of it, the Southern Ocean is colder and less salty. It is home to thousands of species(物种) that can live nowhere else on the earth.
By adding a fifth ocean, the magazine is breaking away from guidance from the International Hydrographic Organization. It sets the rules for sea mapping. Ever since the idea was first put forth in 2000, the organization has never agreed with plans to add the Southern Ocean to the list of the world's oceans.
The biggest influence from the change will be on education. “If we don't include the Southern Ocean, students would not know how important it is to us,” says the geographer.

Passage 6
做个自律的人
Self disciplined(自律的) people are not all excellent people. But nearly all excellent people are self disciplined people. Some of them read every day. Some of them never run late. There is real difference between an excellent person and an ordinary person. It is that an excellent person can manage his or her time well. That's where their success comes from. What people call self discipline is in fact self management.
One example is staying fit. Never underestimate(低估) someone who is in good shape.Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that it's not easy. It's even harder to avoid putting weight back on. If someone is in good shape, it shows that he knows the principles(原则) of staying fit and is able to stick to a plan that uses these principles.
If someone is in good shape, it means that this person is good at managing themselves and their time. Whether it is natural, it is a great skill. It also shows that this person is able to keep persevering(坚定不移的) and can balance long term goals with short term goals.
How do you learn self management First of all, set a goal and write down your reasons for wanting to achieve it. Create a list of all the things you need to do to achieve this goal and start to work on them one at a time. Only through self discipline can you truly own your future.

While I was jumping rope, my smartphone took a fall to the floor which created cracks(裂缝) on my screen. However, the music kept playing.30 minutes later, I could see only one tenth of my screen while the rest was black. The next morning, I decided not to use it for 24 hours. I felt a sense of calm that day, which led to my not using it for one week. One week ended up becoming 60 days in total without my smartphone.
Here are some advantages I noticed in this challenge.
You'll become “bored”

You'll be able to reduce your “work” hours
A survey found that adults checked their smartphones 85 times a day, or once every 10 minutes. As I learned in my challenge, by not having my smartphone, I fell into deep work more easily, so I completed my tasks in a shorter time.
You'll improve your mental health
Without my phone, I avoided reading negative(负面的) news and comments. While that helped make a big improvement in my mental health, the biggest reason for it was truly communicating with people.
