Before I came to the United States years ago, I had thought that culture separated people, but I have realized now that cultures are closer than we know. In the United States, there are certainly more differences than similarities when comparing it to my country.
An amazing aspect of culture is the food produced. I’ve always been a foodie (美食家). When I was hungry, there were many foreign signs of restaurants, but deciding which one was a difficult task. I remember reading the sign for “Chipotle” and I had no idea what was served there.
Who would ever have imagined that an experience as simple as trying new food would produce thoughts of cultures I find it truly beautiful that each culture brings different spices and tastes to the table. I have tried wonderful foods from all sorts of cultures. Each is very unique and atmospheres are also quite interesting and culturally affected. Although the food may taste different, preparation can be somewhat consistent (一致的). Many of the foods I have tasted have had similar mechanisms of cooking
Here in the United States, it can be somewhat difficult to express all of my culture, mainly because there are many different cultures here. But I have found common ground on these matters and have learned to adapt (适应)to different cultures.
I have learned how to live in two cultures. I’m not saying it’s easy, I’m not saying that it’s extremely hard, but it’s all about balance. Each person has their own culture. Life has too many things to care. The theory of “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” is very applicable in most situations. Throughout my experiences here, I have certainly learned a lot about others. Culture is something different to many people but in the end, it connects all of us. Cultures bring others together to create new and exciting situations.

6. What does the author find beautiful about different cultures
A. Each culture has unique atmosphere. B. Preparation methods of food are similar across cultures.
C. All foods from different cultures taste the same. D. Each culture brings different tastes to the table.

Last Friday, a robot called EveR6 led an orchestra (管弦乐队) in a performance of Korean music at the National Theater of Korea. EveR 6 is about as tall as a person, and has a human-like face that can show emotions. Its joints (关节) allow it to move its arms quickly and smoothly in many different directions.
But EveR 6 doesn’t think on its own like some advanced Artificial Intelligence programs. Instead, it has a limited group of movements that it has been trained to perform. To make these movements as natural as possible, EveR 6’s movements are based on those captured from real human conductors.
In Friday’s performance, the National Orchestra of Korea presented a concert titled “Absence”. The concert included five different pieces of music. Two were conducted by EveR 6, and two were conducted by Soo-Yeoul Choi, who leads the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra. Both conductors worked together on the final piece.
Mr. Choi was impressed with the way EveR 6 moved. “The robot was able to present such detailed moves much better than I had imagined,” he said.
But Mr. Choi added that the robot’s biggest weakness is that it can’t hear. “Some people think that conducting is just a combination of hand waving and keeping the beat,” said Mr. Choi. “But a good conductor needs to listen to the orchestra, so that he or she can correct and encourage the orchestra as it plays.”
Mr. Choi and EveR 6 both conducted a piece of music called “Sense”. Instead of musical notes, EveR 6 had instructions for how to play the piece. The conductors and musicians had to work together to create the music. Mr. Choi communicated with the musicians while EveR 6 kept the beat. Mr. Choi said that once EveR 6 started, the musicians had “no choice but to follow its beats”.
Mr. Choi doesn’t think robots are likely to replace human conductors. But he believes robots could be helpful in situations like practice sessions where the same thing needs to be repeated many times.
8. What do we know about EveR 6 from the text
A. It is an experienced conductor. B. It has a lifelike appearance.
C. It is able to listen to music. D. It is much shorter than a person.
9 What does the underlined word “captured”in paragraph 2 mean
A. Stolen. B. Stopped. C. Recorded. D. Hidden.
10. What advantage does a human conductor have over EveR 6
A. Waving hands. B. Keeping the beat.
C. Having instructions. D. Communicating with musicians.
11. What is the text mainly about

Mr. Choi said that once EveR 6 started, the musicians had “no choice but to follow its beats”.( Choi先生与乐手沟通,而EveR 6则保持节奏。

Sport is not only physically challenging, but can also be mentally challenging. Criticism (批评) from coaches, parents and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create too much anxiety or stress for young athletes. Stress can be physical, emotional, or psychological and research has indicated that it can lead to burnout. Burnout has been described as dropping out of or quitting an activity that was at one time enjoyable.
The early years of growth are important years for learning about oneself and the sport setting is one where valuable experiences can take place. Young athletes can for example, learn how to cooperate with others, make friends, and gain other social skills that will be used throughout their lives. Coaches and parents should be aware, at all times, that their feedback to youngsters can greatly affect their children. Youngsters may take their parents and coaches’ criticisms to heart and find faults in themselves.
Coaches and parents should also pay attention that youth sport participation does not become work for children. The outcome of the game should not be more important than the process of learning the sport an other life lessons. In today’s youth sport setting, young athletes may be worrying more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game, many parents and coaches focus on the outcome and find faults with youngsters’ performances. Positive support should be provided regardless of the outcome. Research indicates that positive support encourages and has a greater effect on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of stress, which can lead to burnout.

根据时间状语“since it opened to the public”可知,此处指过去发生的事情对现在造成的影响,故设空处用现在完成时;主语Lincoln’s home in downtown Springfield Illinois是第三人称单数,所以助动词用has,提示词prove 的过去分词形式是proved或proven。故填 has proved/ has proven。
故填for。
故填was painted。
故填The。

When my daughters reached the third and fourth grades, I occasionally allowed them to walk to and from school alone if the weather permitted. One warm spring day, a little dog followed them home after school. It had short legs and long lovely ears, with a fawn-colored coat. It was the cutest dog I had ever seen and the girls begged me to keep it.
The dog was barely twelve weeks old. It had no collar or identifying marks of any sort. I didn't know what to do. I thought about running an advertisement in the lost-and-found but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. Besides, its owners should have watched it more closely.
By the end of the week the dog was part of our family. It was very intelligent and good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found section in the local paper. One particular advertisement jumped out at me and my heart pounded with fear at what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost dog in the neighborhood of our grade school. They sounded desperate. My hand shook. I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the phone.
Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement. I quickly put paper away in the drawer and continued with my dusting. I never said a word about it to the kids or my husband.
By now we had named the dog. It looked like a Molly, so that was what we called it. It followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, it was one step behind them. When they did housework, it was there to lend a hand.
There was only one problem with this otherwise perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was bothering me. I knew in my heart I had to call that number and see if our Molly was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done.
Paragraph 1:
With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the receiver and dialed.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
One look at Molly and the woman’s face lit up like a Christmas tree.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the receiver and dialed. The voice on the other end was that of a young woman. After describing the dog to her in detail, she wanted to come right over.A thousand thoughts crossed my mind before the woman rang the bell. I could pretend I wasn’t home or tell her, “I’m sorry, you have the wrong address.” But it was too late;the bell rang and Molly was barking. I opened the door, forcing myself to face my fear.
One look at Molly and the woman’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. “Come here, Lucy,” she called. Molly (Lucy) instantly obeyed, wagging her tail in delight at the sound of the woman’s voice. She quickly bent over and hugged Molly tightly as if she were a lost child, not a dog. Seeing this, I had a sincere smile on my face. I knew I had done the right thing―that puppy was exactly where she belonged.

Here are four books for teens to read before they turn 18, including a mix of classics, young adult fiction and non-fiction. Parents may even want to re-read.

4. What does the author learn about culture after coming to the United States
A. Culture separates people. B. Culture is from local food.
C. Culture is closer than he knows. D. Food is the culture that unites people.
5. What made the author confused about American food
A. The choice of proper food. B. The ways of serving food.
C. The different tastes of food. D. The methods of food production.
6 What does the author find beautiful about different cultures
A. Each culture has unique atmosphere. B. Preparation methods of food are similar across cultures.
C. All foods from different cultures taste the same. D. Each culture brings different tastes to the table.
7. How does the author feel about living in two cultures
A. Difficult. B. Beneficial. C. Awkward. D. Unpleasant
C
Instead of musical notes EveR 6 had instructions for how to play the piece.
A It is an experienced conductor. B. It has a lifelike appearance.
C. It is able to listen to music. D. It is much shorter than a person.
9. What does the underlined word “captured”in paragraph 2 mean
A. Stolen. B. Stopped. C. Recorded. D. Hidden.
10. What advantage does a human conductor have over EveR 6
A. Waving hands. B. Keeping the beat.
C. Having instructions. D. Communicating with musicians.
11. What is the text mainly about
A. A robot conducting an orchestra. B. An orchestra having performed in Korea.
C. Modern music combined with technology. D. Two conductors getting worldwide recognition.
D
12. What is the main idea of the first paragraph
A. Sport can be mentally challenging.
B. Stress should be made less.
C. Mental stress should be reduced.
D. Sport should be made less competitive.
13. Why is sport important for young people according to the passage
A. It enables them to criticize themselves.
B. It can provide them with valuable experiences.
C. It can help them learn more about society.
D. It teaches them how to set realistic goals for themselves.
14. What should parents and coaches do according to the passage
A. Train children to deal with stress. B. Help children to win every game.
C. Make sure children enjoy sport. D. Understand the meaning of sport.
15. What’ s the author’ s purpose of writing the passage
A. To stress the importance of encouraging children in sport.
B. To persuade young children not to worry about criticism.
C. To teach young athletes how to avoid burnout.
D. To discuss the skill of combining criticism with encouragement.
