Many people make resolutions during the New Year. A resolution is a strong decision to do something. The most popular New Year’s resolutions are losing weight, saving money, getting fit, and stopping smoking. About 45% of Americans make one or more resolutions every year. However, only 8% of people succeed in fact.
There are several ways to help your chances of keeping your resolution. The first way is to be realistic (现实的). Setting small goals is much better than trying to make big life changes. 35% of New Year’s resolutions fail because of this. If you plan to get thinner, for example, you will have a better chance if you start with a little exercise each day. People who try to run 10 kilometers each morning from January 1st will probably give up soon.
Another way is to plan out how to achieve (实现) your resolution. If you want to lose weight, for example, decide what kind of food you will stop eating and how often you will exercise. Making a clear list will help you. Once you have made your plan, stick to it! It is important to always follow your plan.
The third way to make sure your resolution succeeds is to track (跟踪) your progress (进步). If your plan is to lose weight, write down how much weight you lose each week. Make a chart of your weight loss and put it somewhere you can see it. This will help you to keep trying.

From an early age, we were taught that if we wanted to be successful, we had to study hard and get good results at school. In fact, good students may just end up (最终) doing jobs they don’t like, and some even live an unhappy life why is it like that
In some parents’ eyes, school grades are more important than anything else for their kids. In reality, there are many things to care about besides (除了) the school subjects, for example, how to be a happy person, what to do to keep healthy, and how to get on well with others. That is to say, school is not just enough if you want to have a great life.
Doing well in school is different from doing well in life. Studies show that people who failed at school may not end up failing in life. You may have already known that some famous people, like Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs, didn’t do very well in school or even failed to finish school. In fact, many people succeed in life without finishing school, not just the famous ones. They take every chance to learn and finally make it to the top.
Life is such a long lesson that you can’s define (界定) a person’s success by just one section (部分) of it. If you have already finished school, keep learning because what you have learned at school will never be enough to live a satisfying life. If you are still studying, whether you are good or bad at school, don’t take your school results too seriously as long as you have put your heart into it. Keep learning to make the most of your talents. That’s how you can live a happy and successful life.
