Today, we are talking about money. I can share a bit about my history with money and my new view when it comes to using green paper.
I made a web page with links to posts about our financial (财政的) journey where you can look for more details of where we've been and how we got where we are now. It was a big part of my story in the past and was a huge part of our downsizing(精简) journey. We got out of debt and stayed out of debt.
So I feel eager(渴望的)to share the benefits of being on this side. It takes more planning and more careful thought whenever a dollar is spent now than it did when I had a wallet full of credit cards. I now like to think all of my dollars doing the job. So many of us work for money and don't consider that money should work for us, too. Make your dollars do the job of helping you live the life you want.
Each time money is spent or saved, it should be going toward something that you purposefully want for your life. Last week I was out and I spent $ 20 on food in 3 days. It made me angry because afterward I thought about eating is not at all what I want for my life.
On the other hand, there are times I spend $ 20 while out with my family and it doesn't bother(使烦恼)me one bit. An afternoon out with my kids during which we stop for ice cream, and do something fun together has a completely different feel.
In the end, I want the dollars I spend to have purpose like I can enjoy life while still planning and saving for the future.

A.more credit cards should be used in our daily life
B.we should work hard to make more money
C.money should help us live better
D.saving money is very easy
27.Why does the writer feel happy with the money spent with his family
A.Because the money is spent on food.
B.Because the money is spent in doing something fun.
C.Because eating is what he wants for his life.
D.Because the money goes toward something that he wants for his life.

A sleepover (过夜) program, which is designed to make kids believe that their favorite toys enjoy reading, can help encourage children to pick up more books, a new study suggests.
Toys sleepover programs are designed to get children interested in books. Children take their toys to a library for the night. At this point, workers and volunteers take photos of the toys which explore the library and read books. The next day, the children collect their toys and the photos of what the toys did during the night. They are given the books their toys chose to read.
It was found that before the sleepover the children did not spend time looking at the books in their play area at preschool. Immediately after the sleepover, the number of children who read to the toys was higher than the number who did not, but after three days the effect decreased gradually.
The researchers also tested a method for sustaining the effect. They reminded the children of the sleepover a month later, by hiding the toys and showing them the photos again the next day. This simple method brought an increase in the number of children reading to their toys.
The study proves for the first time that children who take part in sleepover programs read picture books to their toys more. “We wanted to know if there really was an effect, and if so, how long it lasts. Surprisingly, not only did the children show interest in the books, but they also began to read to their toys. This means that a new behavior pattern appeared that the children hadn’t had before. We did not expect anything like this,” said one of the researchers.
Reading is important for the development of children’s language skills and imagination. When parents read to their children, it is a passive way of reading for the child. However, when children read to their toys, it is a more active, self-directed way of reading, helping them develop into more active readers, researchers said.
28. What is the purpose of the sleepover program
A. To develop children’s language skills.
B. To help children to sleep well.
C. To encourage children to read more.
D. To guide children to form a good sleeping habit.
29. What do children do in the sleepover program
A. Go around the library with their toys.
B. Sleep with their toys.
C. Read together with their toys.
D. Take their toys to the library.
30. The underlined word “sustaining” in paragraph 4 can be replaced by______.
A. keeping B. testing
C. surveying D. showing
31. What made the researchers surprised after the study of the sleepover program
A. Children showed no interest in the books.
B. The effect of the sleepover program could last long.
C. Children began to read to their toys on their own.
D. Whether the sleepover program had an effect remained unknown.

Who says that being roommates with someone from a completely different generation has to be strange Lately, more and more Americans are becoming intergenerational (代际的) roommates, and they’re changing the way people think they should be living.
Explained as those that are separated by at least one generation living together, there has been a major increase in intergenerational roommate arrangements (安排) within the United States since 1971. In fact, statistics show that this number has actually quadrupled (增长四倍) since then. In a Pew Research Center article, it shared that by March 2021, there were at least 59.7 million Americans that had many generations living under one roof.
There are a ton of reasons that come into play for these types of arrangements. For some, it’s because of the increase in the average life-expectancy age (平均预期寿命), a decreased birth rate, a rise in college tuition, the ever rising rentals in almost every coastal city, and more. But if anything, many say that one main reason behind the rise is that older people have space to rent out and that having younger people around just makes them happier.
According to a 25-year-old robotics student living in Massachusetts, Nadia Abdullah, who moved in with her 64-year-old roommate Judith in 2019, “It was perfect — Judith has become like my family.”
Their arrangement was $700 a month from Nadia, plus the promise of her doing some help around the house. This also allowed Nadia to live just 6 miles from Boston and 30 minutes from her robotics job located in Beverly Mass. Nadia was matched with Judith through website, a renting center specifically created to find intergenerational roommates.
Another young renting center reviewer, Kaplan, also gave some opinions on the service and why it’s so special, saying, “Through this, I lived with Sarah while attending Harvard. She provided the type of knowledge you just can’t Google — showing me how to garden, how to cook fish, and add French Romanticism to life.”
32. What is the increasing housing trend mentioned in the text
A. More people are living together as roommates.
B. Strangers of a generation are living together like a family.
C. Different generations are living under the same roof.
D. Family members of different generations are living together.
33. What does the third paragraph mainly tell us
A. The types of the arrangements.
B. The reasons for the arrangements.
C. The solutions to the arrangements.
D. The problems with the arrangements.
34. What could Kaplan learn from the roommate
A. How to google special knowledge.
B. How to build a garden.
C. How to fish.
D. How to live a romantic life.
35. What can be concluded from Nadia and Kaplan’s experiences
A. The intergenerational roommate arrangements work well.
B. The intergenerational roommates should help each other.
C. The website is popular with university students..
D. The elderly benefit more than the young from the arrangements.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Tina was a 13-year-old girl. She was playing in the yard one morning when she overheard her parents’ dialogue. Her father, a sheepherder who raised hundreds of sheep, was going to the nearest town to do some urgent things. He suggested that Tina should herd (放牧) the sheep while he was away. But her mother, a disabled woman, doubted whether Tina could do that.
Hearing this, Tina stepped into her parents’ room. “Mom, I can herd the sheep. I have grown up,” said Tina, full of expectation. Her parents smiled and agreed. After putting some bread and water into her bag as lunch, Tina drove the sheep out of sheepfold (羊圈), walking them south to a distant grassland. Her mother repeatedly told her that she didn’t have to herd the sheep until the sunset like her father did. But Tina had made up her mind to prove that she had grown up.
It was the first time that Tina had herded the sheep. That day seemed much longer than any other day before. The sun seemed to have stopped in the middle of the sky. The bread was eaten up soon and so was the water. So after some hesitation, Tina finally decided to drive the sheep back home while the sun was still high in the west.
Tina’s father was waiting outside the sheepfold, as if he had expected all that. He smiled at Tina but Tina just kept her head down. The sheep soon got into the sheepfold. Tina was about to shut the door when her father told her to count the sheep in case that some sheep were lost. Tina followed her father’s orders despite her unwillingness.
The sheep were not cooperative (配合的) at all. They were coming and going. Tina counted the sheep three times but each was a different number. She tried again and again and at last she told her father that she had lost three. Her father was not angry but said, “Three Are you kidding ” Tina felt so guilty that she turned around immediately and went to look for the missing sheep and the pride as well.

第二节
参考范文:
Paragraph 1:
It was getting dark and Tina walked along the path to the grassland in search of the sheep. Tina searched everywhere she could think of, but in vain. The grass and jungle along the path seemed like beasts that were ready to attack her. Tina might lack the courage to walk in such a dark night before, but not that night. After 3 hours’ searching, she was exhausted. So she went back home. Her parents were sitting on the bed, seeming to be waiting for her. Tina gathered her courage and said in a low voice, “Dad, I failed. I didn’t find them back.”
Paragraph 2:
“No, you didn’t lose them,” her father said calmly, much to her surprise. He then told her the best time to count the sheep was when they were getting into the sheepfold through the door. Tina said she was too stupid to think of that. But her mother comforted her, saying that her father followed all the way to make sure Tina was safe. Tina was so touched and went forward to hug her parents. They smiled and patted Tina, “We are proud of you. You have really grown up!”
