The Beginning of Winter, or Lidong in Chinese is usually marked on November 7 or 8. It is the 19th solar term of the 24 Solar Terms (节气), and the first solar term in winter. Lidong, Lichun, Lixia and Liqiu are called the "Four Rites"(四立).As soon as the Lidong solar term arrives, it means that winter officially begins. The climate (气候) is characterized by an increase in northerly winds and a decrease in temperature.
