Looking at the undone homework on his desk always makes David Grey feel uncomfortable. More often than not,David leaves his homework behind and surfs the Internet or watches TV instead, waiting until the last minute. "But the longer I wait," says David, aged 15, "the more worry."
Everyone procrastinates(拖延)because they want to feel good now The way to do that is to avoid the task. You can procrastinate on nearly anything, even enjoyable tasks such as planning a vacation." Some people procrastinate cleaning. Some people procrastinate by cleaning,"says Professor Peter Stone. Research has shown that the top tasks young people procrastinate are studying and going to bed. "One big cause for procrastination is that people are afraid of failure,of not meeting others' expectations,"Stone adds.
Some people believe that procrastination will make them thrive. But researchers disagree." I did a study several years ago, asking procrastinators to finish a task in a certain period of time," says Stone. "They did worse than non﹣procrastinators:they made more mistakes and they took longer .But they thought they did better." No matter what the cause is,procrastination is usually not going to be good for you. For example, bedtime procrastination can lead to sleeplessness, which in turn can cause many other health problems.
For those who need some drives to stop procrastinating, the best advice might be to take action first .If you've been procrastinating on forming a habit of exercise, just put on your walking shoes. A little bit of progress will get you moving.
Next, find something to help you remember to take action. If you want to go to bed at 10:30 pm,you might set a timed dimmer switch(渐暗开关)at 10 pm. When the lights are dimmer, you'll start going to bed. It works for most people.
Finally, reward yourself every time you make progress. For example, after you've run 3 km,enjoy your favourite ice﹣cream. But be careful:it won't work the other way around.
(11)What is the main reason for people's procrastination?
A. They want to avoid doing hard work.

C. They need to finish the top tasks first.
D. They plan to do the enjoyable tasks last.

D. Pick up a pen and write down possible starting sentences.
(13)The underlined word "thrive" in paragraph 3 most probably means .
A. work more successfully

Many of our conversations are gossip(闲话).I have noticed three effects of gossip: it can hurt people; it can give gossipers a strange kind of satisfaction; and it can cause social pressure in a group.
An important negative(负面的)effect of gossip is that it can hurt the person being talked about. Usually, gossip spreads information about a topic that a person prefers to keep secret. The more embarrassing or shameful the secret is, the juicier the gossip it makes. Probably the worst type of gossip is the absolute lie. People often think of gossipers as harmless, but cruel lies can cause pain.
If we know that gossip can be harmful, then why do so many of us do it The answer lies in another effect of gossip. Sharing the latest rumor (传言) can make a person feel important because he or she knows something that others don't. Similarly, hearing the latest rumor can make a person feel like part of the “in group”. In other words, gossip is satisfying because it gives people a sense of belonging or even superiority (优越感).
Gossip also can have a third effect: it strengthens unwritten, unspoken rules about how people should act. For example, if everybody you hang around with is laughing at what John wore or what Jane said, then you can be sure that wearing or saying something similar will get you the same kind of negative attention. The dos and don'ts carried through gossip will never show up in any student handbook.
Next time you feel the urge (冲动) to spread the latest news, think about why you want to gossip and what effects your “juicy story” might have.
16.Which of the following is one of the effects of gossip
A. It leads to cruel lies. B. It may do harm to people.
C. It stays on a certain topic. D. It spreads the latest information.
17. What does the underlined phrase “a sense of belonging” probably mean
A.成就感 B.愧疚感 C.羞耻感 D.归属感
18. What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A. Gossip can provide people with written rules.
B. Gossip can help people deal with negative attention.
C. Gossip can remind people to watch their own behaviours.
D.Gossip can force schools to improve student handbooks.
19. How is the passage organized
20. What is the best title for the passage .
A. Stay away from gossipers. B. Don't let gossip turn into lies.
C.Think twice before you gossip. D. Never share your secrets with others.

Hangzhou, together with five other cities in Zhejiang, hosts the 19th Asian Games. The Games are“smart”with the use of many exciting technologies .Let's have a look!
The stadium(场馆)for the tennis finals of the Hangzhou Asian Games is nicknamed "Small lotus". On the top of the stadium, there are eight “petals”(花瓣).Each petal weighs 160 tons. They can open and close freely. It takes 15 minutes for each petal to open and close. When the roof is opening, it looks like a lotus blooming when looking down from the air. It's built this way for different kinds of weather.
What if there's an accident during the game and the athletes need first aid Drones(无人机)can be used to send things over. They can fly as far as 20 kilometers and travel 16 meters in one second. Using a drone saves about 60 percent of the time , according to the drone maker Antwork. Medicine, blood and other things needed for first aid can be sent to people quickly.
Every dish at the Asian Games should be safe and healthy to eat. In the kitchen of the athletes village in Hangzhou, there is a special system that can tell people's faces. If a "stranger" goes into the kitchen, an alarm will go off to let people know. The managers of the kitchen will also get messages on their phones. There's also a system to keep an eye on the temperature of refrigerator.
Want to walk around at the stadiums but can't make it in person You can try the Hangzhou Asian Games 'metaverse(元宇宙)!There's a mini program on Alipay inside, it's like an online cartoon world. You can see the stadiums both from the outside and inside. Also, you can have your own character in the metaverse. You can choose clothes for your character who is able to “run” around the stadiums and even talk with other online users.
Suppose that you are in Hangzhou and going to watch one of the events. It will be sad if you can't find your way. Augmented reality (AR,增强现实) is here to help. There's a mini program called the Hangzhou Asian Games AR service. You simply turn on your phone's camera and it will see where you are and then show you the way. You can also get more information about the stadiums as you walk by.

F. Kids' happiness is always the most important although they make mistakes.
Many parents like setting family rules for their kids. When kids break rules, parents will give them some punishments. 26 In fact, when you tell your kids about a new rule, you should talk with them about the price they should pay for breaking the rule–what the punishment will be.
Punishments you set should be reasonable. without violence(暴力) or threat(恐吓). 27 You should punish your kids only in ways you have discussed before the rule is broken. A study shows that the most popular punishment is to limit kids' TV time.
It's understandable that you'll be angry when rules are broken. 28 Sharing your feelings of anger, disappointment or sadness with your kids can have a better effect on them. Try to do that. When your kids know what they have done has made you sad, they will feel guilty. 29
