My high school life has been filled with many ups and downs, whether it was social or academic. Even though it was not my first choice, I never regretted attending Dragon Up High School. “Since you have chosen it, then it is the best for you,’’ said my parents.
Up until the junior year I did not perform well as a student, even though I had been told that my junior year would be the toughest in all the years of high school. With this “little” piece of information, I walked into my junior year, frightened of my grades. As weeks went by, I started to believe that the junior year was not as hard as everyone had said, but I was wrong. My grades were rapidly declining and by the end of the first term I did a terrible job. I could not believe it. I tried my best to get my grades up myself without any help from anyone, but my pride just made my grades worse. I was heartbroken. I realized that I could not survive my junior year on my own.
Fortunately, my English teacher Rey helped me a lot and gave me much courage and advice. I slowly started to gain my confidence back in all of my classes and even myself. By the time the third and fourth quarter came around, I had been on the honor roll twice, and I was receiving awards from speeches and debates, tennis and school.
Dragon Up has taught me to always keep my head up and never give up on myself no matter what life throws at me. I am proud to be a real dragon.
4. From the first paragraph, we can learn that ______.
A. the writer always thought Dragon Up High School was the best.
B. the writer’s parents persuaded her into attending Dragon Up High School.
C. the writer has met many challenges since she attended high school.
D. life has become easier since the writer came to Dragon Up High School.
5. How did the writer feel when she walked into her junior year
A. Confident B. Worried C. Curious D. Uninterested.
6. Why was the writer’s study worse and worse
A. She didn’t work hard enough. B. She didn’t ask others for help because of pride.
C. She missed her old friends. D. No one would like to help her.
7. What important lesson has the writer learned at Dragon Up High School
A. Students should face challenges bravely. B. Students should be careful in choosing school.
C. Students should be proud of their school. D. Students should better learn about life.

When did you last write a letter Properly write one—by hand In a digital world, sending a text or e-mail is far more convenient than using traditional mail. Well, some people claim that writing still has many benefits, so maybe it’s not time to throw away your ballpoint or fountain pen yet.
These days, when people request things in writing, a typed, electronic document will be accepted. Doing this on a computer means it could be saved, edited, copied and sent via e-mail. But doing a handwritten document is unique: It requires planning and thought, and, as well as practising your handwriting, it helps you to remember spelling and punctuation (标点符号).
Some experts believe your brain benefits from using old-fashioned pen and paper. This is particularly related to students, because typing notes into a laptop is thought to lack the “tactile feedback (触觉反馈)” to the brain. They think taking notes by hand involves cognitive (认知的) engagement in summarising, paraphrasing, organizing, concept and vocabulary mapping. They also agree that handwriting may improve fine movement skills of your hands and fingers.
There are everyday benefits to using pen and paper too. Writing notes, shopping lists or messages on the back of an envelope can still be useful, quick and convenient. But putting pen to paper in a letter to a friend or loved one can probably have the most influence. Pen Pal writer Katherine Moller said, “In a world where it is so easy to get online to e-mail or send a fast text, it is so personal and so precious to know someone chooses to turn off the virtual world to spend some time with you.”
So, while digital skills remain important, don’t get rid of your pens and pencils yet—especially if your smartphone, table t or laptop runs out of power!
8. Why are two questions asked in Paragraph 1
A. To offer background information. B. To ask for opinions.
C. To show disagreement. D. To lead to the topic.
9. Why is doing a handwritten document special
A. It needs people to plan and think. B. It creates spelling and punctuation.
C. It does harm to hands and fingers. D. It helps the brain recover from disease.
10. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4
A. Using pen and paper every day has many benefits.
B. Writing to someone shows true emotion.
C. It is not easy to e-mail or send a fast text today.
D. Digital skills are always important and necessary.
11. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A. It’s Time to Throw Away Your Pens B. A World With Writing by Hand
C. Do We Still Need to Write by Hand D. The Birth of Writing by Hand
【答案】8. D 9. A 10. B 11. C

School field trips have been part of the educational experience for children across the US for decades. While many schools believe there’s value in letting students develop socially with out-of-classroom experiences, measuring the influence and the value of field trips is difficult. And showing the value of out-of-class time can be challenging for teachers tasked with providing a good education.
As such, many art venue, science museums and zoos have reported drops in field trip attendance. Teachers and students have also reported falling numbers of school supported trips. Particularly for minority students in academically low-performing schools.
But thanks to pew research from B rig ham Young University and the Heritage Foundation, the value of field trips is finally being understood. The study used an experimental design and randomly arranged fourth-and fifth-grade students from fifteen elementary schools in Atlanta to join in three field trips during a school year. The field trips included a trip to a gallery, a live theater performance and a symphony concert.
Students who attended three different field trips in the fourth or fifth grade scored higher on end-of-grade exams, received higher course grade, were absent less often and had fewer behavioral problems. Besides academic (学业的) improvements, students who took part in field trips were more likely to express a desire to have careerism related fields in the future. In parents’ opinion, they are very interested in the academic quality of their children’s schools, but they’re also interested in the social skills and social engagement habits they develop. Field trips are easy ways to help improve both.
We expected that field trips wouldn’t harm test scores. However, we never predicted the all-around improvements for students who joined in these field trips, “said Erickson, a researcher in the study.” One potential reason for this is that field rips widen students’ world concepts and introduce them to new ideas. Similarly, students might be more engaged in school thanks to field trips. Students find school more exciting and want to try harder in class.
12. Why do the-number of school field trips drop
A. Teachers give students too many tasks. B. Schools have great problems with money.
C. The value of field trips is hard to be measured. D. Students have difficulty in academic learning.
13. What is the theme of the field trips in the study
A. Art. B. Nature. C. Sports D. Technology.
14. What can we infer about students who joined in the study
A. They have more interests. B. They become more adventurous.
C. They have more self-control. D. They become more curious.
15. What is Erickson’s attitude towards the result of the study
A. Doubtful. B. Negative. C. Disappointed. D. Surprised.
【答案】12. C 13. A 14. C 15. D

根据最后一段中Erickson说的话“We expected that field trips wouldn’t harm test scores. However, we never predicted the all-around improvements for students who joined in these field trips(我们原以为实地考察不会影响考试成绩。然而,我们从未预料到参加这些实地考察的学生会有全面的进步)”可知,研究结果出乎Erickson的预料,他应是对此感到惊讶。故选D。

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I’m Li Hua, chairman of the Students’ Union of our school. Recently, many schoolmates have talked about PE classes with me. All of us think that we are short of physical exercise. Now, on behalf of all the students, I suggest that we have three to four PE classes a week. As teenagers, we need enough physical exercise so that we can relax ourselves and stay energetic. In my opinion, we can concentrate more on our studies if we have a strong body.
I would appreciate it very much if you could take our advice into consideration.
Looking forward to your reply.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Emily White was born seventeen years ago. She was born with many physical issues affecting her tiny body. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive. She did make it, but she had a strange figure that everyone could recognize, even from a distance.
In Emily’s hometown, there was a yearly outdoor performance in the school auditorium (观众席) at Christmas. It had been performed for so many years that it had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the townsfolk. Each year, many people tried out for the show, but most were turned away. Only the best performers were invited to take part.
Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year, she asked Mrs. Owens, her music teacher, if she could join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a look at Emily’s body and said, “Child, you just don’t fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable too.”
Mrs. Owens sent Emily back through the door of the choral (合唱队) room without even hearing her sing a single note. Hurt and upset, Emily decided never to try out again. But then Mrs. Owens retired, and the following school year, a new music teacher arrived, named Mr. Butler.
He had heard about Emily and suggested that she give it a try.
Emily didn’t want to be refused again, so she was a little hesitant to say yes. As Emily struggled with her decision, the door was pushed open and Mr. Butler said, “Emily, you’re next.” Although she was nervous, Emily did as Mr. Butler told her to do. Mr. Butler sat by the piano to accompany Emily. When Emily finished her test performance, she thanked Mr Butler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day.
Emily couldn’t sleep that night. She was worried that she would never fit in. By the next morning, the stress was too much to bear and she started to feel sick.
续写要求:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room.

Paragraph 2:
Finally, the day of performance came.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. She was not rejected this time. Her name was posted at the top of the list. She, Emily White, was chosen to be the leading singer! She would sing alone in the performance. Emily couldn’t believe her eyes. There must be some mistake. But Mr. Buttler said to her with determined eyes, “Emily, I choose you because you should perform the part — your voice is unusual. Believe in yourself.” Greatly encouraged, Emily practiced really hard.
Paragraph 2:
Finally the day of performance came. Standing in front of the line, Emily felt her throat tight and her palms sweating. When the curtain opened up, the eyes of the whole audience fell upon Emily. “Emily White!” Someone whispered. Then, along with the first note of music, Emily began to sing her heart out. Her voice was like a nightingale ringing in the auditorium. Applause! Emily felt so happy and comfortable. She was shining on the stage. Emily White, with so many birth problems in her body, was an angel.

【详解】1. 段落续写:

C She missed her old friends.

D

Mrs. Owens sent Emily back through the door of the choral (合唱队的) room without even hearing her sing a single note.
