Christmas is a time for eating great food, giving and receiving presents, and most importantly spending time with your family watching some classic Christmas movies.

This is a Christmas must-watch and one of Jim Carrey's best performances. It was also originally a nursery tale book written by Dr Seuss. It's the story of a green monster who wants to ruin Christmas but in the end discovers the power of love and generosity. I promise it's a great film with plenty of laughs along the way.
Love Actually(2003)
While this is not a personal favourite of mine, people in the UK absolutely love this film. It has many featuring actors and actresses. It might be a little difficult to follow as there are complex plots, so I recommend watching a translated version. However, the heart-warming elements of the film make it worth watching.

This amusing masterwork is one of my favourite films of all time. It tells the story of a boy, Kevin, who is left alone in his house when his large family forgets to take him on vacation with them. While other family members are away, burglars try to rob the house and Kevin must protect his home by setting traps. The trips, falls and traps will have you laughing out loud as you watch an 8-year-old boy beat two grown men.

You can't have Christmas in an English-speaking country without watching this movie. It's not funny like Home Alone or The Grinch, but it is incredibly touching. It's about a man who claims to be Santa, but nobody believes him except a lawyer and

Girls should take part in competitive sport to build confidence, and the leaders of a group of girls' schools will argue this week. Helen Fraser, director of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), will tell the group that sport can help girls deal with failure.
" All girls, not just the sporty ones, should take physical exercise", Ms Fraser says. Research that girls are far less active than boys is worrying, she argues.
Ms Fraser will tell the group that she supports"sport for all"." That's why I love it when our schools have A, B, C and D teams and beyond," she says.
The GDST draws on research from the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation which suggests only a quarter of girls in England meet basic levels of activity each week. One in five girls do no activity at all, twice the proportion(比例)of boys, the research suggests.

She uses the examples of former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who once was a skater and tennis player, and the head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, who was in the French national swimming team. Ms Fraser says Olympic medallists like Jessica Ennis and Katherine Grainger are excellent role models for young women but says women's sport needs more money and more news reports.
Valerie Dunsford, head of Sheffield High School for Girls, part of GDST, said it was important to offer a large number of sports to attract different types of girls."Not everyone wants to be out playing the hockey(曲棍球)",said Ms Dunsford.

Imagine a child standing on a diving board four feet high and asking himself the question: "Should I jump " This is what motivation or the lack of it can do. Motivation and goal setting are the two sides of the same coin. 16 Like the child on the diving board, you will stay undecided.
17 More than that, how should you stay motivated to achieve the goal First, you need to evaluate yourself, your values your strengths, your weaknesses, your achievements, your desires, etc. Only then should you set your goals.
You also need to judge the quality and depth of your motivation. This is quite important, because it is directly related to your commitment. There are times when your heart is not in your work. 18 So, slow down and think what you really want to do at that moment. Clarity(清晰)of thoughts can help you move forward.
Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember that goals are flexible. 19 They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals.
Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a Pilot but can’t become one because your eyesight is not good enough. 20 You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal.
You will surely need to overcome some difficulties, some planned, but most unplanned. You cannot overcome them without ample motivation. Make sure that you plan for these difficulties at the time of setting your goals.
A. This can affect your work.
B. So how should you motivate yourself
C. However, this should not discourage you.
D. So why should we try to set specific goals
E. They can change according to circumstances.
F. Motivation is what you need most to do a good job.

On July 23, an older couple driving home from a vacation cut through Redding, California. A wheel on their truck went wrong and the burning pieces which were made wheel and the hard road flew into dry grass. A heavy smoke was made and a big fire quickly spread.
Incident Commander Tom Lubas, a 23-year practised hand of Cal Fire , and his colleagues set up a command center , called in more firefighters, made their great efforts and carved containment(控制)lines. But then the fire exploded from 4,599 acres to nearly 30,000.
Just after noon, Lubas left base camp at the Shasta County fairgrounds in Redding. He had to go to the town to buy food for his colleagues. On the road from his truck window, Lubas watched a30,000-foot-tall wind column which was filled with wood pieces balloon into the sky, absorbing the hot air as oxygen fed the fire to be greater.
As he drove, his truck recorded the temperature outside:113'C. On the coast, 95 miles to the west, it was 59℃. The 54-degree difference caused warm air to shoot up. Late in the afternoon, the strong column would run faster and faster, changing into a huge cyclone(气旋).
Soon as Lubas finished grocery shopping and went back , the sky grew dark . The fire's behavior alarmed him that he must go back to work. Minutes later, he got a call from his colleague Don Andrews saying they received the task to drive to the hills northwest of Redding to help residents get away. But an hour later, Luba stopped. He was blocked. The road was too narrow for his vehicle.
Ahead of him, the fire tornado(龙卷风)was coming into being. It was dangerous and snakelike, a roll in orange that seemed to fill the entire sky. Flames soared 400 feet in the air. It wouldn't touch down for another hour, but it was rapidly gaining strength. The tornado would grow to 1,000 feet wide, the size of three football fields, and produce temperatures double those of a typical wildfire. Lubas didn't know how to drive ahead, but the truck was the only thing to keep him from fire.

Ms Fraser says Olympic medallists like Jessica Ennis and Katherine Grainger are excellent role models for young women but says women's sport needs more money and more news reports.

第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给其内容和所给的段落开头语续写成两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

1.续写词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 1:
He heard cries from a house on the hillside when wondering. The sky was red and fire was burning wildly around the house. He knew those being trapped needed help immediately. No longer hesitating, he got off the truck and ran quickly towards the house. When he arrived there, he saw the roof already caught fire. He rushed into the room and found an old man and a little girl embraced at the corner. Lubas put the girl on his back and supported the old man to the door with great efforts. At last they arrived at the safety.
Paragraph 2:
Soon Lubas saw Andrews pulling over, who was unaware of the danger from electrical lines over his head. The fire burned the wire poles and the electrical lines were swaying in the wind. Lubas shouted at him but Andrews didn't hear Lubas at all. What to do Lubas drove his truck and rushed toward his colleague. When he reached near, he shouted to him to move quickly. Andrews was saved but Lubas was burned by th wires falling down. Luckily, he was sent to the nearest hospital and treated well. And through joint efforts of more heroes like Lubas, the fire was put out without other casualties.
