The Orchard
I had a very nice meal at the Orchard restaurant. The food was lovely and the service was quite good. We chose to eat in the garden which was full of beautiful flowers and very relaxing. The only disappointment was the dessert-the apple pie was far too sweet and it was cold too. Apart from that it was an enjoyable evening. As for the price-what a bargain, excellent value for money!
Park Inn
The best thing about Park Inn was the service-it was excellent. There was a warm welcome when we arrived and the waiters were very helpful all evening. However, the food wasn't as good. The menu looked interesting but the meals were rather tasteless. It's not a cheap restaurant and I wasn't happy to pay so much for boring food.
Richard's Place
When we entered the restaurant, we were surprised by the lovely interior (内部的)design of it. So stylish, so modern! This is one of the most popular restaurants in town and it's very easy to see why. The food was great and excellent value for money but it was ruined by very, very poor service!
The Riverside
It was lovely sitting outside and looking over the river. There were lots of little lanterns(灯笼)and colored lights everywhere and it all looked very pretty. The food was good, nothing very special but quite tasty. The service was OK;we didn't have to wait too long for our food but the waiter never looked very happy! It's quite an expensive place but with the view I think it's quite good value for money.
21. In which restaurant can customers eat in the garden
A. Park Inn. B. The Orchard. C. The Riverside. D. Richard's Place.
22. What makes the customers of Park Inn most satisfied
A. The food. B. The price. C. The service. D. The environment.
23. In Richard's Place, customers can __________.
A. receive good service B. enjoy its modern design
C. listen to wonderful music D. enjoy the beauty of a river

Today was a really big day for me. The last time I spoke in class was three years ago and it was terrible. I tried to say the letter" W" and made that strange sound. Everyone laughed and I haven't spoken in class since.
But it's been going really well lately. I've got a great doctor and I'm allowed to use my computer in class all the time. And guess what This is really big news! When I listen to music on my headphones I can speak without stuttering(结巴)!That’s why I agreed to talk at the science fair today.
So I arrived at school early this morning to practise with my group. Our project is about using bacteria(细菌)to eat plastic. Unfortunately, when it was my turn to speak, I was so nervous that I chose the wrong music on my MP3 player. So instead of Mozart I was listening to my dance collection. The problem is that when I have dance music on the headphones I can't stop myself talking in the same rhythm (节奏)as the music. So it just sounds like I'm rapping(说唱)!
Most people in school had never heard me speak before. They were really surprised when I started doing a rap about bacteria that eat plastic. I could see they were laughing at me. But when I finished they all stood up and cheered.
After we finished, everyone wanted to know me. They didn't know about my secret use of the music on my headphones, so they just thought I was a great rapper! I checked my phone at lunchtime and I've got 187 new friend requests!

Researchers recently studied 3, 000 middle and high school students. Among them were 618 teenagers with one parent who lived away from home for long periods of time because of work. The researchers wanted to know how the work of these "fly-in, fly-out" parents might influence the health of their children.
A higher percentage of teenagers who experienced the long absence of a parent had emotional (情感的) or behavioral problems compared with those whose parents worked more traditional hours. This supports earlier research finding high percentages of emotional problems in teenagers who often returned to an empty house after school or whose parents were seldom at dinner.
Findings also suggest that parents don't have to be home all the time to be present in their children's lives, but it helps to be home at certain times. And the best parental presence for a teenager may sometimes be like a potted plant.
Many parents of teenagers have known this to be true and find ways to be present without trying to start a conversation. One friend of mine quietly does housework each evening in the sitting room where her teenagers watch TV. They enjoy one another's company without the need to talk. Another friend usually accepts his daughter's invitation to work or read nearby while she sits and does her homework. Perhaps, that, at least for some families, is the best way for teenagers and their parents to stay close.
In fact, many years of research suggest that children use their parents as a safe base from which to explore the world. Studies tell us that young children quietly follow their parents' movements from room to room, even while carrying on with their own activities. Perhaps our teens, like babies, feel most at ease when their parents are still around. They don't want to stay away from parents who allow them freedom. A new school year is at hand, so as parents we could offer our teenagers a"potted flower"as a gift, whose quiet and steady (稳定的) presence will give them a great day.
28. What's the purpose of the recent research
A. To show the necessity of parents' company all the time.
B. To support earlier research on teenagers' emotional problems.
C. To find connections between parents' long absence and children's health.
D. To compare "fly-in, fly-out" parents with those working traditional hours.
29. What did the study find about the 618 teens compared to the others
A. They got more used to being alone.
B. They were more likely to have trouble with their feelings.
C. They showed more dislike for traditional working hours.
D. They had dinners with their parents more often.
30. What does the underlined phrase "a potted plant" in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Giving children a great day. B. Being present in children’s life.
C. Allowing children enough freedom. D. Staying with children quietly and steadily.
31. Why do parents need to be at home at certain times
A. To set examples for children to follow. B. To guide children to explore the world.
C. To take good care of children as babies. D. To give children a sense of safety and relaxation.
D
The early life of the green sea turtles (海龟) is full of danger. Only one in 1,000 baby sea turtles survive to adulthood. From its home in the sand, it breaks its egg with an egg tooth. Its mother is not there to help it. Instead, it is greeted by crabs, coyotes, and dogs waiting to eat it for dinner. To survive, the baby turtle must hide in the sand until night. Then, it moves slowly to the sea.
The small turtles must swim hard to reach the ocean waters. In the sea, it tries hard to find food. It must also keep itself from being food for fish.
As dangerous as the sea turtles' life is in the natural world, its most dangerous enemies are humans. The rubbish left by humans in the ocean causes problems for the small green sea turtles. A little turtle might eat a piece of plastic (塑料) in the sea. It might also eat oil on the ocean's surface. Young turtles also get caught in fishing nets. There are laws against hunting sea turtles. Still, many are hunted, both for their meat and for their shells (壳). All of these dangers must be prevented.
Sea turtles that do survive to grow into adulthood go through many changes. For example, they stop eating jellyfish and other meat and eat only plants. And they may plan a trip to go back home again. A mother sea turtle goes back to the beach where she was born. This is the only place where she will lay eggs. Even if it has been forty years since she was a baby, she always knows her way back home.
32. Why do baby turtles move to the sea at night
A. To wait for their parents' care and help. B. To protect themselves from being eaten.
C. To enjoy the night view of the sea alone. D. To avoid staying in the sand for a long time.
33. Which word can best describe the early life of green sea turtles
A. Peaceful. B. Happy. C. Difficult. D. Interesting.
34. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Some helpful laws against hunting green sea turtles.
B. The serious problems in the ocean caused by rubbish.
C. Some human-made danger sea turtles meet in the sea.
D. The medical value of green sea turtles' meat and shells.
35. What can we know from the text
A. Adult green sea turtles will eat anything they get.
B. Mother sea turtles will lay eggs where they were born.
C. Only baby sea turtles may have the danger of surviving.
D. Sea turtles will forget the way home when they are old.
