A short time ago, a park in Selwood, England, looked terrible.The lake water was dirty,the seats were broken and the place was full of rubbish.
But now the park looks quite different, thanks to Michael Chambers,a student. Michael started a group called Park Rescue. Volunteers of the group used their free time to clean the park. They took away the rubbish and started cleaning the lake. They fixed a lot of the seats and bought some new tables. They also planted some flowers and 60young trees.
Michael told people what they were doing in the park through the newspaper. In six months, about 120 more people joined Park Rescue. The group also organized concerts and raised money in the street. With these activities and the help of some warm-hearted people, they have raised over 4,000.
“Birds start to come back to the park. The long-closed restaurant is going to open soon and that will be great. Alice Lee is a high school student studying at a private school. She is doing some voluntary work at an after-school program to help students from poor families.
On the first day of her work,she noticed that many kids were lining up for free sandwiches and fruit. She was surprised. One of the organizers explained that many of these students didn't get enough to eat at home. So a school lunch or an after-meal might be the most food they would get all the day. On Feb.12th,Dalian (not his real name) was taking a train to Changsha, Hunan,for a business trip. While on the train,he went into a carriage(车厢) to have lunch and chose to remain in the carriage. He didn't know that the carriage was only for people heading to Wuhan.
Several hours later,when the train arrived in Wuhan, Dalian was asked to get off, as he was in the special carriage.
