My husband and I always wanted to go to the Caribbean but didn't know much about the islands or how we were going to afford it. By chance, a friend of ours in Australia mentioned “pet sitting” and that it is something you can do all over the world.
We quickly created an account on a pet sitting website and began searching for options. There were only a couple of sits available in that part of the world, but we tried our luck, sent a request, and to our surprise landed a three-month job in Grenada, so our year was going to be taken up with Caribbean pet sits.
Inspired by a Canadian couple, we decided to start our own travel blog. We began by writing about The Virgin Islands, highlighting the beautiful beaches. However, for every photo album of a beautiful beach, there were 10 photos of trash (垃圾). It was hard to ignore the plastic pollution issue, especially on such primitive and remote beaches. So, we began to share photos of the trash we saw and how much we could pick up on our daily dog walks.
The more we looked into plastic pollution, the more we realized the severity of the global plastic pollution. From that point, we used our platform to create awareness and highlight ways to say no to plastic and travel plastic-free. We changed our daily routines, our way of living, and even our diets to accommodate more organic foods and little to no plastic packaging.
It's been over three years now and we continue to do what we can. This journey has led us to some amazing places, working with great brands and even organizing a country-wide beach clean-up campaign1 in Grenada.
Our aim now is to keep on going. We love connecting with like-minded people. It's been amazing few years that was sparked by a conversation about pet sitting. Who would have guessed

Giant pandas are among the most lovable animals alive today. Unlike their relatives, such as the polar bear, pandas don't eat meat but survive on a diet of only bamboo. So why and how have pandas abandoned their taste for meat to pick up a vegetarian diet
Pandas today don't eat meat. However, they've kept much of their meat-eating adaptations from times past. Their digestive systems have not changed much from their meat-eating days. Out of the huge 12. 5 kg of bamboo they eat in a single day, only about 17% of it is digested. To survive, pandas eat large amounts of bamboo while having a low-metabolic (新陈代谢的),lazy lifestyle to make up for the poor energy return.
The giant panda's shift to a vegetarian diet is in line with the inactivation of a specific gene-Taslrl, which provides them with the ability to taste certain amino acids (氨基酸) abundant in meat. Its inactivation in pandas would lead to their dietary change.
Pandas have evolved to a great degree to cope with their relatively recent bamboo-eating lifestyle. Pandas must seize long and thin pieces of bamboo shoots. To assist with this, they have developed a long “fake-thumb” (伪拇指). So giant pandas have six fingers in each paw which provides better support for them to seize object such as bamboo in one paw quickly. Researchers have found that the surface of the panda's tongue is different. While other bears and many meat-eating animals have smooth tongues, pandas have evolved tiny projections on the surface of their tongues that serve to file down food. This is especially useful for pandas as they remove the outer cover of bamboo.
Time will tell if pandas will adapt and survive, go back to eating meat, or disappear in the wild. Whatever the future holds, we can be grateful that, for the time being, we get to share our planet with these adorable animals.

A. To illustrate the variety of food.
B. To represent the evolutionary rule of pandas.
C. To describe the changes of living environment.
D. To show the ineffectiveness of digestive system.
9. What caused pandas' change in diet
A. The low-metabolic ability.

A. Seizing bamboo shoots.
B. The low energy return.
C. Developing more fingers.
D. The vegetarian diet.

A. The preference for bamboo.
B. The evolutionary feature in eating.

Is my article mid or valid If you can answer this question, you already are accustomed to
what we term “algospeak. ” As more and more online users join social media platforms such as TikTok (抖音),algospeak continues to grow. But what is it, what do these words mean?
Algospeak is a coded language or slang used online. For some communities it is the only
way to talk safely about sensitive subjects. Due to the rise of algorithmic censorship (算法筛查)in media, algospeak developed as a way to prevent robot from deleting their videos and messages. Users had to get creative to avoid deletion. This means that as long as there is censorship, there will be a new language to avoid it.
Further, new slang created on social media platforms fits itself into everyday life. Even if you are not writing a message on TikTok, you may have caught yourself using phrases from the app in your daily life. This connection between people all over the globe allows for shared vocabulary. It also has the potential to completely change the way we as English speakers speak. Here is some new slang popularized by TikTok.
Bussin' (adj. ) - something is really good, usually referring to food
Mid (adj. )-ordinary, not good or bad
Sheesh (ex. )-response either meaning disbelief or surprise, can be positive or negative
Valid (adj. )-something very good or meets a very high standard; a respectable opinion
No one would have suspected artificial intelligence (AI) would be the catalyst (催化剂)for change but it is. The combination of not only censorship but also high connectivity birthed a new language. Some older generations can't even understand what the youngest generation says because of the lack of exposure to the new language. The gap between English before social media and English as it is now is giant, and it continues to grow.
So, what should we expect for the future Will censorship loosen or will the English language continue to evolve from digital media Time can only tell.
12. What contributed to the emergence of algospeak
A. The need for netizens to escape censorship.
B. The desire for a shared vocabulary around the world.
C. The authority's demand for creating a new language.
D. The social media's intention to catch public attention.
13. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs
A. AI needs catalyst to develop.
B. Social media birthed a new language.
C. Algospeak may cause communication obstacles.
D. Strict censorship is a barrier to interpersonal relationships.
14. What is the author's attitude towards the future of algospeak
A. Expectant.
B. Intolerant.
C. Skeptical.
D. Unclear.
15. What can we infer about algospeak
A. It offers a new outlook on life.
B. Its evolution is associated with AI.

Tips on Preventing a Sports-Related Injury
Playing sports is a great way to exercise, and that doesn't have to stop once you're an adult. 16 But when we're active, we also increase the chance of getting injuries.
These injuries are painful and often require missing games and practices to give your body the proper rest and care needed to recover. Unfortunately, a previous injury is one of the most significant predictors of a future injury. 17
Here are some injury prevention tips:
18 _Talk with your doctor about any past sports injuries during your next checkup or before the next season starts. Your doctor can recommend corrective exercises to help you be more resistant to a future injury.
Be aware of the environment and field conditions. Environment doesn't just mean the weather, although that is important, but also how safely teammates and the opponents are playing. 19 Ice or wet spots or holes can set the stage for a fall and result in an injury.
Watch for athletic sportsmanship. When athletes don't play by the rules or play too aggressively, an injury is more likely to occur. Watch to ensure officials and members of the other team demonstrate a good understanding of fair play.
Recognize an injury. Despite our best efforts, an injury can happen. 20 Take yourself out of the game and have the injury assessed so it doesn't get worse. Before going back into the game, give yourself time to heal completely and develop a strategy to prevent the injury from happening again.
By taking these smart steps to avoid (and if necessary, address) injuries, you can set the stage for a life-long, healthy love of sports.
A. Assess potential injuries.
B. Arrange for an athletic screening.
C. Sporting activities may result in any type of injury.
D. Sports is an ideal way to socialize and maintain fitness.
E. Also, check out the field or court where you're playing.
F. If it does, it's very important to address it immediately.
G. That's why injury prevention-not just treatment or recovery-is key.

Just like on every break, Asiri would go with his uncle to his workshop, who made costumes for elephants! Asiri had been asking to help make the costumes. But he'd been told he was too little to sew the fine stitches (缝线)needed for the costumes.
Waiting for Uncle Thad, Asiri smoothed his practice piece beside him. Across it he had sewn, pulled out, and resewn stitches just as Uncle Thad had taught him. He couldn't wait to show it to his uncle.
When his uncle finally came over, Asiri leapt from his seat. “Look, Uncle, ” said Asiri, holding up the stitched cloth. “These are fine stitches, Asiri, ” said Uncle Thad. “Just right to fix sequins (亮片). ” Together they walked to the workshop.
Uncle Thad and his team were busy making the costumes. They had to be ready for Esala Perahera, the biggest festival held in the city of Kandy. Since the elephants were the stars of the parade, their costumes had to be dazzling. He especially loved the sequins sewn on them that made them sparkle.
Uncle Thad, his team, and now Asiri, would finish the costumes. Asiri hoped he'd get to sew a sequin onto the costume for the most important elephant in the parade. After lunch, Asiri was putting away a piece of cloth when his uncle called. “Asiri Please bring me the box of golden sequins. ”
Here was his chance, thought Asiri. He'd bring the box to Uncle Thad and then ask to sew one on. Uncle Thad was sure to say yes. Asiri lifted the box from the shelf but turned a little too quickly, and the box was turned over, leaving the golden sequins on the floor. Uncle Thad turned to stare-first at Asiri and then at the golden sequins. Asiri felt his cheeks turning red. Now, Uncle Thad would never let him sew a single sequin on the costumes this year. Asiri dashed out of the door, down the street, and all the way back home. Hearing the rush of his footsteps, Asiri's mother came to the door. 注意:
1.续写的词数应为150左右;
