17-year-old Tibetan girl Cigla is a freshman at Nagqu No.2 Senior High School in Lhasa, which sits 3,650 meters above sea level. She now plays point guard for the school’s 12-member female basketball team.
“Practice makes perfect. You get used to the altitude when you love the sport and train hard enough,” said the potential basketball star, who has been crazy about the sport since taking it up three years ago.
With outstanding speed and accurate passes, she never fails to shine on the basketball court, even when she competes against the boys. Though she is a freshman in high school, Cigla already has a clear picture of her future — entering a sports college to study basketball. In the eyes of Cigla, who comes from a poor herder’s (牧民的) family in northern Xizang, studying in Lhasa, the most developed city in this area, has made it much easier for her to realize her basketball dream.
With an average altitude of over 4,500 meters, Nagqu is among the most uninhabitable places in Xizang. Low-oxygen environments and extreme weather have long influenced the health of Nagqu students, hampering the development of primary education in the area.
Like Cigla, many students at the school are from poor farmers’ and herders’ families. Dawa Droma, a senior student also on the school’s female basketball team, recalled, “I had never touched a basketball before that game but joined the class team anyway. When I scored and heard my classmates cheer for me, I couldn’t feel more proud. That’s how I fell in love with basketball and never looked back”. Reflecting on the influence of basketball on her life, Dawa Droma said the sport had helped her get fit and build up confidence over the years. “Meeting players from different schools has certainly made me a more outgoing person.” she said.

A. She loves playing basketball but dislikes training hard.
B. She is in Grade One at a senior high school at a high altitude.

C. her family background D. her entering a sports college
61. What does the underlined word “hampering” in Paragraph 4 mean

62. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Dawa Droma seldom feels proud when scoring.
B. Dawa Droma has been affected by basketball greatly.
C. Playing basketball improves Dawa Droma’s sense of touch.
D. Players from different schools have become Dawa Droma’s friends.

I have never understood why we keep a garden and why years ago when I bought my first house, I started digging up a small land for vegetables before doing anything else. It is so easy and cheap to buy carrots; why raise them When April comes, I always find myself looking at that miserable land, resolving not to plant it again. But unavoidably a morning arrives when, just as I am awakening, a refreshing scent, as if from the very center of this planet, comes through the window. And the sun suddenly, seems to have a different, deeper yellow in its light on the carpet.
It is not only pleasure sending me back to stare at that plot of soil, it is real conflict. The question is the same each year—what method should we use The last few years we put black plastic between the rows, and it worked perfectly. But plastic looks so industrial, so unromantic, that I have gradually moved over to hay. We cut a lot of hay and it does improve the soil. Besides, it looks lovely and comes to us free.
The attractions of gardening, I think, at least for some gardeners, are moral. Whenever life seems pointless and difficult to grasp, you can always get out in the garden and get something done. Also, your parental instinct comes into play because helpless living things are depending on you, requiring training and protection from enemies. In some cases, as with beans and cucumbers, your children—as it were, begin to turn upon on you in great numbers, growing more and more each morning and threatening to follow you into the house.
63. What can we infer about the author from the first paragraph
A. He always likes buying carrots. B. He always makes decisions in April.
C. He takes good care of the small land. D. He enjoys the garden in spring.
64. What drove the author to abandon plastic
A. High price. B. Environmental concern.
C. Poor function. D. Personal preference.
65. Why does the author say the attractions of gardening are moral
A. Gardening requires wisdom. B. Gardening offers moral advice.
C. Gardening improves parenting. D. Gardening brings spiritual content.
66. What is the best title for the text
A. To Garden or Not B. What I Garden for
C. How to Garden D. Wisdom from Gardens
D
You have probably heard of the Mozart effect. It’s the idea that if children or even babies listen to music composed of Mozart, they will become more intelligent. A quick Internet search shows plenty of products to assist you in the task. Whatever your age, there are CDs and books to help you taste the power of Mozart’s music, but when it comes to scientific evidence that it can make you more clever, the picture is more mixed.
The phrase “the Mozart effect” was made up in 1991, but it was a study described two years later in the journal Nature that aroused real media and public interest about the idea that listening to classical music somehow improves the brain. It is one of those ideas that sound reasonable. Mozart was no doubt a genius himself; his music is complex and there is a hope that if we listen to enough of it, we’ll become more intelligent.
The idea took off, with thousands of parents playing Mozart to their children, and in 1998 Zell Miller, the Governor of the state of Georgia in the USA, even asked for money to be set aside in the state budget so that every newborn baby could be sent a CD of classical music. It was not just babies and children who were exposed to (接触) Mozart’s music on purpose, even an Italian farmer proudly explained that the cows were played Mozart three times a day to help them to produce better milk.
I’ll leave the debate on the effect on milk production to farmers, but what about the evidence that listening to Mozart makes people more intelligent More research was carried out but an analysis of 16 different studies confirmed that listening to music does lead to a temporary (临时的) improvement in the ability to handle shapes mentally, but the benefits are short-lived and it doesn’t make us more intelligent.
67. What can we learn from Paragraph 1
A. Mozart composed many musical pieces for children.
B. Children listening to Mozart will be more intelligent.
C. There are few products on the Internet about Mozart’s music.
D. There is little scientific evidence to support the Mozart effect.
68. The underlined phrase in Paragraph 3 suggests that ________.
A. People were strongly against the idea.
B. the idea was accepted by many people.
C. Mozart played an important part in people’s life.
D. the US government helped promote the idea.
69. What’s the author’s attitude towards the Mozart effect
A. Supportive. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Positive.
70. What is the best title for the passage
A. Listening to Mozart, necessary B. What music is beneficial
C. What is the Mozart effect D. To be or not to be
