Twelve-year-old Leonardo was born in a poor family in Bambamarca in Peru. He knew how to read but he had never seen a book in his life. So he asked the new priest (牧师) in his village to give him one. But there was no electricity. So Leonardo borrowed candles from the church and sat up all night reading it. The next morning, he was at the door of the priest asking for another book to read.
John Medcalf, the priest, was moved. He also realised that people would love to read if given a chance. But he knew how difficult it was for Leonardo and those in his village to get books. And yet, no one can be taught to read and write without books. To make people in a poor, faraway area grow to love books, they have to be with them. So he thought the only way was to bring books to people.
But how could this be done Mobile libraries or car libraries would be too expensive and difficult to continue in the rocky, hilly land of Peru. So what other methods could be used
Medcalf got a new idea from the barefoot doctors of China. And that was how the barefoot librarians first appeared in the villages of northern Peru, almost thirty years ago.
The librarians began by going from village to village, lending books to villagers. They helped start The Rural Library Network of Peru.
At first, they were teachers of the village schools which these faraway libraries belonged to. But the teachers were not very interested in the job because it meant a lot of hard work. So, village leaders took on the job themselves.
Today, there are 600 village libraries across Peru. The barefoot librarians who walk up to 15 hours a day with bags of books are their lifeline.
4.The first paragraph tells us that Leonardo ______.
A.enjoyed reading books
B.bought candles from the church
C.had a lot of books
D.lived in the church
5.The underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 probably refers to ______.
A.to grow to love books
B.to read and write
C.to bring books to people
D.to build a new library
6.The passage doesn’t mention ______.
A.where Medcalf met Chinese doctors
B.who worked as village librarians at first
C.when the barefoot librarians appeared
D.how many village libraries Peru has today
7.It can be inferred (推断) from the passage that ______.
A.the first church in Peru was set up by John Medcalf
B.car libraries used to be popular in Leonardo’s village
C.teachers were interested in bringing books to villagers
D.the barefoot librarians are important to village libraries
【答案】4.A 5.C 6.A 7.D
根据第一段中“So Leonardo borrowed candles from the church and sat up all night reading it. The next morning, he was at the door of the priest asking for another book to read.”(于是Leonardo从教堂借了蜡烛,整晚坐着读这本书。 故选A项。
根据第二段最后一句“So he thought the only way was to bring books to people.”(所以他认为唯一的办法就是把书带给人们。)
根据第四段“Medcalf got a new idea from the barefoot doctors of China. And that was how the barefoot librarians first appeared in the villages of northern Peru, almost thirty years ago.”(Medcalf从中国的赤脚医生那里得到了一个新想法。 以及最后一段中“Today, there are 600 village libraries across Peru.”(今天,秘鲁全国有600个乡村图书馆。) 故选A项。
根据第五段“The librarians began by going from village to village, lending books to villagers. They helped start The Rural Library Network of Peru.”(图书管理员开始从一个村庄到另一个村庄,把书借给村民。 以及最后一段中“The barefoot librarians who walk up to 15 hours a day with bags of books are their lifeline.”(赤脚图书管理员每天要背着一袋袋的书走15个小时,这是他们的生命线。)

Last week, our forum(论坛)asked if you had any funny or strange stories about using English. We didn’t expect to get so many posts! Here are some of our favorites, to remind us that some of the English we learn in the classroom is rather different from the English in the outside world.
Yancy People say that the British always play safe with what they eat. Not true! I went to a summer school in Manchester and my English teacher was called Maggie. One day, a different teacher took our class. He told us that Maggie couldn’t teach that day COZ she had a frog in her throat. Poor Maggie-but why did she try to eat such a big frog 135 comments
Sophie When I first visited New York, I went to a downtown shopping centre to buy some winter boots. At the information desk at the entrance, I asked a lady where the shoe shop was. She said that it was on the first floor. So I went up to the first floor, but I couldn’t find any shoes. I decided to leave. When I was looking for the exit, I saw that shoes were actually sold downstairs on the ground floor, not the first floor. Why did she give me the wrong information 128 comments
Zheng Xu The British must have really high standards. I was part of a student exchange programme between a university in England and my university in China. I spent days preparing and writing my first English paper. I knew I had done a good job and was looking forward to getting a positive comment. When I got the paper back, I found my teacher had written the comment “Not bad!” Not bad But there weren’t any errors in my paper. 85 comments
1.What does the underlined sentence “she had a frog in her throat” probably mean A.She didn’t play safe with what she ate.
B.She has drawn a picture of frog on her face.
C.She ate a big frog and her throat was blocked.
D.She couldn’t speak clearly because her throat is dry.
2.According to the Sophie and Zheng Xu, what may cause the misunderstandings
A.Both of them have difficulty in learning English.
B.They didn’t know the words’ different meanings in other countries.
C.The spellings are too complicated for both of them to understand.
D.The speakers spoke so fast that Sophie and Zheng Xu couldn’t follow.
3.Where can we probably find the passage above
A.In a novel. B.In a magazine. C.On the Internet. D.In a diary.
根据Yancy分享的故事“People say that the British always play safe with what they eat.” 但Yancy接着说“Not true!”然后讲述自己的故事:她的英语老师Maggie没来,另一位老师替她上课,并解说原因是“she had a frog in her throat.。但是Yancy却说“Poor Maggie-but why did she try to eat such a big frog (为什么她要吃这么大的青蛙,以至于卡在咽喉)显然她从字面意思去理解,理解错了。由此可知,划线句子的意思是:嗓子嘶哑,说不出话来。故选D项。
2.细节理解题。Sophie的遭遇:根据“So I went up to the first floor, but I couldn’t find any shoes.”中的“went up(上)”可知,Sophie把the first floor理解为了二楼,而在美式英语中,the first floor是一楼,因此产生误解。Zheng Xu 的遭遇:“I knew I had done a good job and was looking forward to getting a positive comment.”
B
A call came into Jimmy Gilles’s bar this past March. A newly married woman who had spent the afternoon at the dive beach bar in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina couldn’t find her wallet. She didn’t care about her ID, credit cards, or $150— but her wedding ring was inside it.
Gilles, 42, the boss of the bar, didn’t like the idea that there was a thief at his place. So he set out to find the wallet. He spent hours looking for the footage from 16 different cameras, watching the woman’s every step in the bar until she went to sit on a bench outside and left when her ride arrived. Within minutes, a young man in a hoodie approached the bench, put something in his pocket in a hurry, and walked off.
Gilles posted the picture on the bar’s Facebook and asked if anybody knew who the guy was. Within hours, 17-year-old Rivers Prather came and said he had taken the wallet and told Gilles he’d done it because he hadn’t eaten for two days. He said he saw the ring but thought it was fake, so he took the money, and threw the wallet off the public docks into the ocean. Then he bought a sandwich.
Gilles, unsure whether he should believe Prather, told the teen to meet him at the docks. There Prather revealed that he wasn’t getting along with his family and lived in the woods for weeks. Gilles looked at Prather—his small stature, his ruddy cheeks—and saw him for what he was: more of a kid than a thief.
But the police were already on the case, and because of the missing ring, Prather could be facing severe charges. Gilles wanted to help him somehow.
Gilles recruited two local divers to search the waters where Prather had thrown the wallet. A crowd gathered to watch the two divers search in the strong current. More than an hour passed, with no sign of the ring. Gilles grew worried. Each passing minute increased the chances that the police would arrest the young man.
And then a diver came out from the water with the wallet in his hand, and inside was the ring. Cheers erupted from the spectators. When Gilles called the wallet’s owner, she burst into tears. She promptly dropped the felony charges against Prather for stealing the ring.
But it wasn’t over for Gilles. He’d been troubled about Prather sleeping in the cold woods. He told the teen he could stay with his family until the boy got on his feet again. He also gave the kid a job at his bar. “Most people would give the footage to police, but the boss chose to help me,” Prather told CBS News. “I say thank you to him every day.”
4.Why didn’t Prather take away the ring in the wallet
A.Because he thought the ring was not genuine and worthless.
B.Because he was too anxious about the money to find the ring.
C.Because he knew nobody would be interested in buying the ring.
D.Because he knew he would be charged severely if he took the ring.
5.What can be inferred about Prather according to the passage
A.He has been a thief ever since he left his family.
B.He was still a kid although he looked tall and strong.
C.His family didn’t get along with him and give him nothing to eat.
D.He left his family and was very hungry before he committed the theft.
6.Why did Gilles feel worried when the divers could not find the ring
A.Because he had to pay for it as it was stolen at his bar.
B.Because the police were very likely to arrest Prather.
C.Because it would disappoint the crowd gathering around.
D.Because it was a wedding ring and very important to the woman.
7.Which words can be used to describe Mr. Gilles
A.Careful and creative. B.Reasonable but cruel.
C.Caring and merciful. D.Brave but heartless.
【答案】4.A 5.D 6.B 7.C
根据第三段“He said he saw the ring but thought it was fake, so he took the money, and threw the wallet off the public docks into the ocean. (他说他看到了戒指,但认为是假的,所以他拿走了钱,把钱包从公共码头扔进了海里。)”可知,Prather没有拿走钱包里的戒指,因为他认为这枚戒指不是真的,没有价值。故选A。
根据第三段“Within hours, 17-year-old Rivers Prather came and said he had taken the wallet and told Gilles he’d done it because he hadn’t eaten for two days. (几个小时后,17岁的Rivers Prather来了,说他拿走了钱包,并告诉吉尔斯他这么做是因为他两天没吃东西了。)”和第四段“There Prather revealed that he wasn’t getting along with his family and lived in the woods for weeks.( Prather在那里透露,他和家人相处得不好,在树林里住了好几个星期。)”
根据第五段“But the police were already on the case, and because of the missing ring, Prather could be facing severe charges. (但警方已经在调查此案,由于丢失的戒指,Prather可能会面临严厉的指控。)”和第六段“Each passing minute increased the chances that the police would arrest the young man. (时间一分一秒地过去,警察逮捕这个年轻人的可能性就增加了。)”可知,当潜水员找不到戒指时,Gilles非常担心,因为警察很可能会逮捕Prather。故选B。
7.推理判断题。根据第五段“But the police were already on the case, and because of the missing ring, Prather could be facing severe charges. Gilles wanted to help him somehow. (但警方已经在调查此案,由于丢失的戒指,Prather可能会面临严厉的指控。Gilles想以某种方式帮助他。)”可知,Gilles帮助Prather洗清指控,可推断Gilles非常仁慈。根据最后一段“But it wasn’t over for Gilles. He’d been troubled about Prather sleeping in the cold woods. He told the teen he could stay with his family until the boy got on his feet again. He also gave the kid a job at his bar. (但对Gilles来说,这并没有结束。他一直担心Prather睡在冰冷的树林里。他告诉男孩,在男孩重新站起来之前,他可以和家人住在一起。他还给那孩子在他的酒吧找了份工作。)”可推断,Gilles对Prather非常关怀。故选C。

A five-year-old dog named Kelsey has been praised as a hero for helping to save the life of her owner who slipped in the snow and broke his neck.
The man, Bob, was alone when he left his Michigan farmhouse on New Year’s Eve to collect firewood. Expecting a journey of only several meters, Bob was wearing just long johns (秋裤), a shirt and slippers when he went outside, although the temperature was around -4°C.
After the accident, he was unable to move in the snow. Fortunately, Kelsey came to his assistance.
“I was shouting for help, but my nearest neighbor is about 400 meters away, and it was 10:30 p.m.,” Bob explained. “But my Kelsey came. By the next morning, my voice was gone and I couldn’t yell for help, but Kelsey didn’t stop barking.”

Bob spent 19 hours in the freezing cold. When he finally lost consciousness, his dog kept barking. Finally, hearing the barking, Bob’s neighbor discovered him at 6:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day and called the emergency services at once. When Bob arrived in hospital, his body temperature was below 21°C.However, doctors were surprised to find that he didn’t have any frostbite (冻疮). They believed it was because of Kelsey’s determination to keep him warm. Dr. Chaim Colen, the doctor who treated Bob, said, “Animals can help and his dog really saved him … he was very fortunate.”

“Hungary ” I looked at my school headmaster in confusion. “I never mentioned wanting to go to Hungary.” And with that, my adventure started.
My name is Jonathan Diamond and I just finished an amazing exchange year in Hungary.
Going on an exchange had always been my dream. When my high school offered an all-year program,I jumped at the opportunity. It would pay for almost everything and all I had to do was get a plane ticket. I knew where I wanted to go: Spain, the country of dancers wearing flowing red dresses. So when I heard that I was going to Hungary, I was pretty shocked. But I decided to make the best of it, since it was, after all, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Before I knew it, I was on the airplane, leaving for Budapest International Airport, Hungary.
I had times when I almost gave up. Hungarian is the hardest language on the planet. Cultural differences occasionally embarrassed both my peer teens and me. I had to give up eating carrots, my beautiful favorite, for they think carrots are rubbish in their country. The change in the landscape was amazing, looking nothing like skyscrapers, bullet trains, cars, and people in tiny houses that I had been accustomed to. Gradually, I fell in love with the relaxing lifestyle, the warm-hearted people, and getting home at 2:30 p. m. at the latest from school. And I was sad to leave on my very last day.
Having the host family who took me as one of their own members was the best thing I have ever experienced. From my little sisters, I learned how to embrace life to its fullest. From my brothers I learned that it’s OK for a boy to run around the house. From my host parents I learned to stay positive, to smile, and that when you pick the right persons and take their hands, suddenly, you become friends.
4.How did Jonathan feel when he was told to go to Hungary
A.Excited and satisfied. B.Confused and shocked.
C.Amazed and embarrassed. D.Delighted and interested.
5.Why did Jonathan still decide to go to Hungary instead of Spain
A.He didn’t like Spain. B.He wanted to learn Hungarian.
C.It was a rare chance. D.Going to Hungary was much cheaper.
6.What can we learn about Jonathan during his stay in Hungary
A.He fell in love with eating carrots. B.He couldn’t wait to leave.
C.He was surprised by the landscape. D.He quickly got used to the life there.
7.According to Jonathan, the host family________.
A.changed him completely B.taught him how to dance well
C.treated him as equally as a student D.showed him the good things of life

When Ariel Cordova-Rojas rode her bike to Jamaicia Bay Wildlife Refuge in Queens, New York, last November, she planned to go hiking and bird-watching. Bingo!
A mile into her walk, she spotted a beautiful female mute swan (疣鼻天鹅) near the water’s edge. Cordova-Rojas, 30, who had worked at the Wild Bird Fund recovery center in Manhattan, knew that mute swans can be battle some. But as she approached this one, it didn’t move. She was certain that the bird needed medical attention. Cordova-Rojas placed her jacket over the bird’s head to keep it calm, carefully picked it up, and held it in her arms. And then a thought struck her: What do I do now
Her best bet was the recovery center, but that was across the East River and clear on the other side of town. How was she going to transport a 17-pound swan on her bike all that way Luckily, some strangers driving by offered her, her bike, and the swan a lift to a nearby subway station. She worried others might be disturbed. However, on the subway, no one seemed particularly fazed by the feathered passenger. One guy, says Cordova-Rojas, was “sitting right in front of me on his phone. I don’t know if he noticed there was a swan in front of him”.
Cordova-Rojas called the recovery center, and Tristan Higgin-botham, an animal-care manager, picked her up at the subway station and drove bird, bike, and the rescuer to the facility. There, staff members determined that the swan might have lead poisoning.
The staff got the swan back up on her feet. She even made a boyfriend at the center — another injured swan. Sadly, even with all that tender loving care, the swan fell ill with a bacterial infection. Two months after Cordova-Roias came to her rescue, she passed away.
It’s a disappointing ending, but the real story is just how far some people are willing to go to save a swan in the big city-literally. In all, Cordova-Rojas traveled two hours by foot, car, and subway (with her bike). “That’s the perfect summary of who she is,” says Higginbotham.
4.How did Cordova-Rojas know the swan was in trouble
A.She noticed a scar on the swan.
B.She found the swan trapped in water.
C.The swan was behaving in an abnormal way.
D.The swan attacked her when she came near it.
5.What does the underlined word “fazed“ in paragraph 3 mean
A.On top of the world. B.In the wrong.
C.On the rocks. D.At a loss.
6.How was the swan’s life at the recovery center
A.The swan suffered a lot of pain there.
B.The swan enjoyed its staying there.
C.The swan’s life there was totally disappointing.
D.Many people came to visit the swan,
7.What sort of person was Cordova-Rojas
A.Curious and generous. B.Caring and thoughtful.
C.Energetic and independent. D.Sensible and straight-forward.
根据第二段中“Cordova-Rojas, 30, who had worked at the Wild Bird Fund recovery center in Manhattan, knew that mute swans can be battle some. But as she approached this one, it didn’t move. She was certain that the bird needed medical attention. (30岁的科尔多瓦·罗哈斯曾在曼哈顿的野生鸟类基金恢复中心工作,她知道疣鼻天鹅好斗。但当她走近这只时,它没有动。她确信这只鸟需要治疗)” 可知,疣鼻天鹅本性好斗,但是当科尔多瓦·罗哈斯靠近这只天鹅时,它没有动。正是它的反常行为让科尔多瓦·罗哈斯知道天鹅遇到麻烦。故选C项。
5.词句猜测题。根据上文“She worried others might be disturbed.(她担心其他人会被打扰)”和划线词所在句“However, on the subway, no one seemed particularly fazed by the feathered passenger.(然而,在地铁上,似乎没有人特别fazed这位长着羽毛的乘客)”中However可推知,她担心的事情并未发生,没人觉得天鹅乘地铁有什么不妥,没有人觉得“困惑不解”。
根据倒数第二段中“The staff got the swan back up on her feet. She even made a boyfriend at the center —another injured swan. (工作人员让天鹅站了起来。她甚至在中心交了一个男朋友——另一只受伤的天鹅)”可推知,天鹅喜欢在康复中心的生活。故选B项。
7.推理判断题。通读全文,并结合第二段中“She was certain that the bird needed medical attention. Cordova-Rojas placed her jacket over the bird’s head to keep it calm, carefully picked it up, and held it in her arms.(她确信这只鸟需要治疗。科尔多瓦-罗哈斯把她的夹克盖在鸟的头上,让它保持冷静,然后小心地把它捡起来,抱在怀里)”和最后一段中“Cordova-Rojas traveled two hours by foot, car, and subway (with her bike) (科尔多瓦·罗哈斯步行、开车、坐地铁(骑自行车)两个小时)”可知,主人公科尔多瓦·罗哈斯富有爱心,而且细心周到。故选B项。

It was a week after my mom had passed away and I didn’t know how to go on with life. So when I received an email from a friend about a race benefiting cancer research, I ignored it. It seemed to prick my heart, as cancer was the disease that had taken my mother away from me.
But something about my friend’s words—“I can help organize the whole thing”—stuck with me. I felt obliged(有义务的)to agree. In the weeks to come, I managed to re-enter the world of the living. I checked our team’s website daily, feeling proud each time a donation ticked up our total. I knew my mom would have wanted it that way. She was the type who never got defeated. It was this very spirit that helped me get by.
When the race ended, I noticed the runners all had one thing in common: There were big smiles on their faces. They made it look so rewarding and effortless. I wanted in.
So I enrolled in another race two months later. Considering I could barely run a mile, it was ambitious. But my friend and I made a training plan so I wouldn’t come in last. I followed it religiously and didn’t let anything get in my way.
Running up and down the city’s hills, I was flooded with memories. I had lived there after college and my mother had visited often. I passed Bloomingdale’s, recalling the time she and I had gotten into a screaming argument there.
I was about to beat myself up when I remembered what Mom had said after her diagnosis of cancer. “I don’t want you to feel guilty about anything.” Her paper-thin hands had held me tightly. A weight lifted from my shoulders.
When the race day arrived, I gave it my all for my mom and for all she had taught me and continued to teach me. As I ran, whenever I felt like slowing down, I pictured her cheering me on.
Crossing the finish line, I was filled with her love and a sense of peace.
14.Why did the author ignore the email in the beginning
A.She felt it hard to finish the race.
B.She had no time to join in the event.
C.She thought the research meaningless.
D.She was reminded of her mother’s death.
15.What mainly helped the author recover from her mom’s death
A.The company of her friends. B.The inspiration from her mom.
C.The pleasure in going for a run. D.The success in organizing an event.
16.Which of the words can best describe the author’s mom
A.Considerate and polite. B.Brave and humorous.
C.Strong-willed and caring. D.Outgoing and patient.
17.What might be the best title for the passage
A.How I Got Healed in Running B.The Loss of Sweet Memories
C.What Matters Most in Running D.The Rewards of Great Friendship

Follow this four-day route, and you’ll lose yourself in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
Day 1 Overview Edinburgh
It was in Scotland’s capital city that J. K. Rowling started to plot the adventures of Harry and his pals. She wrote the early chapters in various cafes around the city’s Old Towns.
Day 2 Overview travel to Fort William
Travel by train from Edinburgh to Glasgow. From there, you can take the West Highland Line toFort William. This is a great way to see some famous spots from the window, including the mysterious Rannoch Moor, the place where Death Eaters board the train in the movie Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.
Day 3 Overview all aboard the Hogwarts Express
Witness the sweeping cinematic scenery of the movie Harry Potter by booking a seat on the Jacobite Steam Train. Stop for lunch in Mallaig and then make the return journey to Fort William. Please be sure to book the steam train in advance, as it is exceedingly popular. By the way, it runs seasonally.
Day 4 Overview lakes and glens (峡谷)
In the films, mysterious, misty landscapes frame the background of Harry’s tale, so it’s no surprise that the film producers chose the Highlands for many scenes. Spend a day wandering through some of these beautiful spots and feel the magical atmosphere.

Some of my earliest memories involve sitting with my dad in his study every night when he came home from the office. I’d watch as he put his personal items away: his watch, wallet, comb, and car keys. They would always occupy the same spot on the table every time.
Dad’s comb was bought when he married Mum. Every evening, he would smile, hand me the comb and say: “Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it, OK ” I was more than happy to do it. This seems a mundane task, but it brought me such joy at that time. I would excitedly turn the tap on, then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could. Satisfied that I’d done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me and place the comb on top of his wallet.
About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to change. Dad’s business wasn’t doing so well, and our stable life started getting shaky. He didn’t come home as much as he used to. And when he did come home, it was always late, and I’d already be in bed. I started to get mad. Why didn’t he listen to Mum and just stick to his old job Why take the risk and place the whole family in trouble Over the years, I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him.
Now 28, I’ve graduated from college and got a job. Dad’s business has also started to get back on track. Yet the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me went on.
Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. On that evening, I helped him carry his bags into his study as usual. When I turned to leave, he asked me to clean his comb. I looked at him for a while, then took the comb and headed to the sink. It was a new comb. I hadn’t noticed that he’d changed it. I brushed the comb, and it hit me then: why, as a child, helping my dad clean his comb was such a joy.
I passed the clean comb back to Dad. This time, I noticed my dad had aged. But his smile was still as heartwarming as before. Dad carefully placed his comb on top of his wallet. After so many years, I guess some things never change. And for that, I’m glad.
14.As a child, the author helped her dad clean his comb happily because ________.
A.she was good at cleaning the comb
B.she thought that she should do that as a good girl
C.her dad was home early to spend the evening with her
D.the comb was important for her father and her mother
15.Which of the following words can best replace the underlined word “mundane” in paragraph two
A.Important. B.Exciting.
C.Unnecessary. D.Uninteresting.
16.When the author said, “It was a new comb. I hadn’t noticed that he’d changed it.”, she felt _______.
A.disappointed B.impatient
C.tired D.sorry
17.What’s the best title of the passage
A.Evenings With Dad.
B.How to Clean the Comb.
C.My Memory with My Dad.
D.I Love My Family Members.
【答案】14.C 15.D 16.D 17.A

根据第一段“Some of my earliest memories involve sitting with my dad in his study every night when he came home from the office. I’d watch as he put his personal items away: his watch, wallet, comb, and car keys. They would always occupy the same spot on the table every time.(我最早的一些记忆是每天晚上父亲下班回家时坐在他的书房里。我会看着他把他的个人物品收起来:他的手表、钱包、梳子和车钥匙。每次他们总是占据桌子上的同一个位置。)”和第二段中“Every evening, he would smile, hand me the comb and say: ‘Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it, OK ’ I was more than happy to do it.(每天晚上,他都会微笑着把梳子递给我,说:‘做个好女孩,帮爸爸把它洗干净,好吗 ’我非常乐意做这件事。)”以及第三段中“He didn’t come home as much as he used to.

A.where Medcalf met Chinese doctors
B.who worked as village librarians at first
C.when the barefoot librarians appeared

If you’re prone to browse through Twitter, or can’t take yet another stressful headline in the news, Oprah Winfrey has some suggestions on what books to read next.
Song of Solomon
By Toni Morrison
American author Toni Morrison was one of Winfrey’s longtime friends. Winfrey described Morison as “a magician with language who understood the power of words” after her death in August 2019. The 1977 novel Song of Solomon tells the story of a fictional man from Michigan named Milkman Dead.
Between the World and Me
By Ta-Nehisi Coates
Winfrey called Ta-Nehisi Coates “a bearer of the torch, who carries on the legacy of our ancestors and is also entirely so original.” This nonfiction book, Between the World and Me, which won the National Book Award in 2015, is formatted as a letter to Coates’ son and grapples with inequality and race in America.
The Soul of America
By Jon Meacham
Winfrey recommends this United States history book, written by Pultizer Prize-winner Jon Meacham, “to guide me and help me understand our current era and reassure that our country can bounce back from dark times.”
This book is especially prescient in light of the upcoming election. “In moments when public life feels unsatisfactory, then, it’s instructive—even necessary—to remember first principles,” writes Meacham.
The Power of Now
By Eckhart Tolle
Winfrey said that The Power of Now by spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle “has changed the way I see life.” The book explores quandaries like: “How do you find peace when everything is in chaos ” Winfrey said.

7.What sort of person was Cordova-Rojas
