A 19-meter-long sperm whale（巨头鲸）was rescued（营救）from the beaches of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province on April 20th. It has been stranded（搁浅的）for over 21 hours.
The stranded whale, which weighed about 70 tons, was first seen by fishermen. Although whales breathe oxygen（呼吸氧气）like land animals, they need water to stop them from overheating. The fishermen feared that the whale would die if it was not pushed back into the sea in time. So they called the police. A 200-person rescue team arrived immediately. In order to keep it alive, the team had to cover the whale's long body with water. Volunteers also joined in rescuing the whale.
At high tide，the whale was connected by rope to several boats. Then it was gently pulled back into the sea. By midnight, the whale was at a depth of 9 meters.
