She turned her head back and broke into laughter, and her love for a good joke let go the bad feelings from our earlier 37 discussion.
So, I thought I’d try to make others laugh, too.
But at my restaurant job, my partner’s 38 smile made me lose heart. However, I still kept up the courage to try the same joke with a younger waiter, then a front-house manager and 39 my boss in the kitchen. They 40 differently, but no one laughed.
Then one day, to my surprise, the same waiter came up to me during a 41 . “OK,” he said, clearly running through the joke in his 42 one last time.
“What do you 43 a deer with no eyes ”
I was already smiling because I couldn’t believe I was a receiver of a joke for a 44 . “ I don’t know. What ”
“No i-deer (No idea).”
I 45 and laughed. That was all the encouragement I needed.
From then on, I continued to 46 jokes with strangers. From bus drivers to waiters and customers, I noticed a change. The act of telling jokes broke down barriers (隔阂), 47 cold faces into friendly ones.
This journey taught me 48 lessons in communication and the power of humor to keep up spirits. I’ve learned that some people laugh out loud not because of my joke, but because they’ve been having a bad day, week or month and they 49 the unexpected cheers.
So I’m going to continue. I’ll 50 and memorize little jokes to light up my wife’s day and then share them with strangers and friends alike, because making people laugh makes me feel good. Just as the saying goes, laughter is the best medicine.

In our society, we often care about what others do, but this can sometimes feel stressful. Especially for public persons, there’s often a hidden pressure. People often show anger toward them on social media (媒体) because of their unintentional (不经意的) decisions.
The Olympic champion (冠军) Quan Hongchan suffered from this. According to reports, Quan returned to Guangzhou after attending an event. During her trip, she stopped by an Apple store to buy a phone for her family. This should have been a simple personal choice, but it quickly drew attention on social media. Some people said she didn’t love our country just because she chose a foreign brand.
This situation raises questions about how society sees famous people and their personal choices. Should athletes be treated so strictly for such decisions The answer is, of course, no Quan has the same rights as anyone to make personal decisions, including which products to buy Being a public person doesn’t mean giving up the freedom (自由) to make ordinary choices. As a teenager, she should be allowed to enjoy privacy (隐私) like anyone else.
However, public persons like Quan often suffer from too much attention from the public Since her Olympic win in 2021, Quan’s life has been under a microscope (显微镜) . The media and fans follow her every move. From her family members’ activities to her personal shopping trips, her life has been turned into a public thing. This kind of attention creates big pressure, turning what should be a kind of pride into a kind of stress.
It’s time to consider why the public pay more attention to her personal choices than her real achievements. Quan is an Olympic champion who has brought pride to our country with her athletic skills. Instead of paying too much attention to small matters like her choice of phone, the public should celebrate her hard work in sports and the fame she has won for our country on the world stage. After all, public persons enjoy the same freedom as anyone else to live their lives.
61. What does “hidden pressure” for public persons refer to
A. People care about them. B. People share their life on social media.
C. They made unintentional decisions. D. Their decisions led to people’s anger.
62. Paragraph 2 is written to ____________.
A. give an example B. tell the story of Quan
C. show Quan’s achievements D. draw attention to Quan
63. Which one does the writer disagree with
A. Quan should be allowed to enjoy privacy.
B. Quan should be treated strictly for her choice.
C. Quan has the right to choose a foreign brand.
D. Quan has the freedom to make ordinary choices.
64. How should we care about public persons
A. Follow their every move. B. Share their life on social media.
C. Honor their achievements. D. Pay attention to their personal choices.
65. What would be the best title for the passage
A. Quan, Our Example B. Champion, Pride or Stress

There are also some e - reading areas where we can enjoy e - books. What’s more, the library often holds some reading salons. It’s really exciting to communicate with other book - lovers there.
Near the library, there are several bus stops, which makes it very convenient for people to get there. And there are some cafes. The coffee there is delicious and the environment is very comfortable.
The library is not only a place for reading, but also a great place to gain knowledge and make friends.
