Reflecting on the Past Year and Wish for the New Year
When recalling 2024,the word “ growth ” comes to my mind.
One example of my growth is my improved performance in math. At the beginning of the year, I had problems with math. However, through consistent practice, getting help from teachers, and joining in study groups, I gradually overcame these challenges. By the end of the year, I not only achieved better grades but also got a deeper understanding of the subject. The past year has been marked by growth, and I’ll try to continue this progress.
Looking forward to the new year, I want to say to myself, “Take on new challenges bravely and you’ll achieve more in 2025”.2024—2025学年度第一学期期末质量检测

Last month, I read a book called The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It tells a touching story told through the eyes of a dog named Enzo.
Enzo lives with his owner Denny, a professional car racer and experiences the ups and downs of life with him. He sees Denny work hard to succeed and go through the unexpected death of his wife Jennifer.
The book shows the heartwarming relationship between Enzo and Denny. Denny treats Enzo as a close friend and family member, telling him his secret of racing in the rain. Enzo is loyal (忠诚的) to his owner, always supporting and comforting Denny in his own way during the darkest periods of Denny’s life. Seeing their special relationship moved me a lot.
While reading, I discovered that the art of racing in the rain is a metaphor (比喻). When it “rains” in life, unexpected challenges suddenly come, just like how a car skids (打滑) during a race. What can you do Denny, a master of racing in the rain, taught me a lot about such challenges.
Stein writes in the book, “There is no dishonor in losing the race. There is only dishonor in not racing because you are afraid to lose.” From his words, I learned that we should be brave when facing challenges instead of running away from them. Also, we need to look on the bright side because, as Stein says, “The car goes where your eyes go.” This means that how we view difficulties influences the result.
The Art of Racing in the Rain is a book about love and life. It touched me and taught me a lot.
59. Who is the storyteller of “The Art of Racing in the Rain”
A. A car racer named Denny. B. A loyal dog named Enzo.
C. The author, Garth Stein. D. Denny’s wife Jennifer.
60. What is the dishonorable thing when facing challenges according to Denny
A. Losing the important race. B. Not trying for fear of losing.
C. Asking for others’ help. D. Giving up halfway easily.
61. Which of the following best explains the meaning of the underlined sentence
A. You should always look ahead when driving.
B. Success in life depends on having a good car.
C. Your thoughts influence how you face difficulties.
D. It’s important to have a clear goal in mind.

When you’re trying to make friends, you’ll probably meet someone who just doesn’t like you,
though you’ve never done anything personally to him/her. Well, what should you do Here’s some advice.
Gossip (流言蜚语) can make meeting new people difficult, especially when people hear something bad about you. It can stop someone from getting to know you at all. When you’re in a situation like this, it feels awful. Rather than working hard to try to win them over, however, just be yourself. In time, they will see that the gossip about you is wrong. Or, they may choose to believe it. Don’t worry about it and move on by friending the people who deserve to have you in their life.
You’d think that your friend’s friends would also become your friends. But it doesn’t work that way. Sometimes people are happy with the friendships they have, and they aren’t interested in adding any more. If someone chooses not to be friends with you just because you’re new to the group, it’s fine. There’s nothing wrong about you or them.
An even more difficult situation is when someone has actually met you and just doesn’t like you. Every joke you make is taken the wrong way. Every time you try to do something nice, they find fault. As much as it hurts, accept that not everyone is going to be your friend. Don’t take it personally. These things could happen to everyone. There are just some people you’re not going to get along with.
In friendship, it’s important to focus on the positives with people. If someone doesn’t want to
be your friend, that’s okay. Don’t get mad at them because it’s their choice. Instead, give your time and care to the people that are interested in hanging out with you.
62. What should you do if people choose to believe the gossip about you
A. I should try to win them over. B. I should let them know the truth.
C. I should forget about it and move on. D. I should find out where the gossip comes from.
63. Which is the best way to divide the text
A. ①/②③④/⑤ B. ①/②③/④⑤
C. ①/②③④⑤ D. ①②/③④/⑤
64. What is the text mainly about
A. How to make new friends. B. How to get along with others.
C. How to be popular among friends. D. How to deal with being disliked by others.
D
Some salty deserts are covered with patterns in six-sided shapes, and the ground looks like honeycombs(蜂窝).The six-sided shapes are always 1 to 2 metres across. For years, scientists have tried to find out the causes of the shapes.
The deserts are not as dry as they look. They have groundwater. A new study says this could help explain the mystery. Lucas Goehring, an expert in physics at Nottingham Trent University in England, led the study. He and his team came up with an explanation for the six-sided shapes.
According to Goehring, below the desert surface is a layer (层) of salty water. You can reach it by digging with your hands. In the hot summer months, the water steams (蒸发). This leaves only salt behind. Some of the salt goes into the next layer of water. This layer of water then becomes thicker and saltier than the one below it. Then the saltier water goes down and the fresher water goes up.
The process repeats itself to form what scientists call a convection roll(对流圈)which normally has a round shape. There are so many of the convection rolls and they press against each other to form the six-sided shapes.
Scientists say they did their work out of curiosity (好奇心). “Nature presents us with a fascinating mystery,” said Jana Lasser, another expert who helped with the study. “It makes us want to solve it.”
65. What is the mystery most probably caused by according to the new study
A. The movement of sand. B. The strong sunlight in summer.
C. The changing weather in the deserts. D. The movement of underground water.
66. Which of the following pictures shows a convection roll
A. B. C. D.
67. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Nature is full of mysteries. B. Curiosity leads to new discoveries.
C. We should protect the environment. D. Everyone has the ability to solve problems.
68. Why did the author write the text
A. To introduce a new study. B. To put forward some suggestions.
C. To call for people to visit deserts. D. To share some personal experiences.

Technology has brought ancient poets “back to life”. At the World Robot Conference in late August in Beijing, there were two robots that looked like the Chinese poets Li Bai and Du Fu. They are called bionic (仿生的) robots, made by EXROBOTS from Liaoning, China. The robot’s skin is usually made of silicone (硅胶). It is very soft, and you can even see veins (血管) under it.
Another human-like robot also interested people recently. It was created by US company Apptronik. Named Apollo, it has around 30 muscles (肌肉). For now, the robot can only make simple movements. The robot’s head has cameras and sensors (传感器) inside. They can help it map out a 360-degree view of its environment. They also help the robot keep balance when walking on unstable (不稳定的) surfaces.
Nowadays, bionic human-like robots mostly work with humans, such as by being tour guides or helping visitors at front desks. This could be because people are comfortable living and working with machines that look and act like them.
As more human-like robots come out, safety will be the key, according to the Robot Report. When a 70-kilogram robot breaks down and falls, humans nearby may get hurt.
69. What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 1 mean
A. Ancient poets really came back from life.
B. The robots looked and acted like real ancient poets.
C. People can go back in time to see ancient poets.
D. The robots can create better poems than poets.
70. What does the skin of the robots made by EXROBOTS show
A. How human-like their robots are. B. What the robot’s skin is made from.
C. How soft the robot’s skin is. D. How different it is from other robots.
71. In which situation can bionic robots help you now
A. When you want someone to repair your car.
B. When you want someone to travel with you.
C. When you don’t want to do housework.
D. When you want to carry out scientific research.
72. What is the best title for this text
A. Falling in Love with Human-like Robots B. The Advantages of Human-like Robots
C. An Introduction of Human-like Robots D. How to Control a Human-like Robot

When I was in Grade Seven, Mr. Brown, our science teacher organized a competition. He asked each of us to make a paper plane of any shape. The person who got his/her paper plane to fly the farthest would win.
I had much experience of making paper planes because I often made them for my younger brother. I made the best plane I could and it flew pretty far. I thought it would be easy for me to win the competition.
To my surprise, my classmate Tony reported that he was ready to test his paper plane with just a regular piece of paper in his hand. Seeing this, some of my classmates started laughing. How could a piece of paper fly Moments later, Tony crumpled (揉皱) up the piece of paper into a ball and threw it down the hallway. The paper ball did fly very far and Tony beat the class.
Some students got mad and said, “Mr. Brown, Tony cheated. That’s not a paper plane at all.” Hearing this, Mr. Brown smiled and said, “Well, I said your paper planes could be in any shape. A paper ball is indeed a shape.”
In our lives, when faced with problems, we are often influenced by traditional ways of thinking and fixed answers. In fact, there are many ways for us to solve problems. _____________
