Just think that one day your poop(粪便) might help build greener homes. Surprised Scientists are working on it! Today we use bricks(砖块) to build houses. But when making bricks, lots of carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) comes out and pollutes the environment. Scientists found that adding poop to bricks could cut down the pollution. Using po op is good in other ways as well.
Greener and cleaner
Every year, lots of human po op is turned into sludge(污泥). The sludge is rich in silicon(硅), aluminum(铝) and calcium(钙). These things can make bricks. Scientists at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia tried to add different amounts of sludge to bricks. Too much sludge would make the bricks too soft. But mixing 15 per cent of sludge can make the brick strong enough. And this can cut carbon dioxide emissions(排放) by 13 per cent. Another good thing is that the germs(病菌) in the poop stay in the bricks. They won't pollute the land and rivers.
More water-resistant(防水的)
In some villages in India, people mix cow dung(粪便) and mud to make their homes water-resistant. Scientists at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands studied this. They found that the dung is rich in fatty acids(脂肪酸). It can stop water from passing through. Based on their study, the team made new kinds of bricks with cow dung. They were 30 times better than today's bricks in water-resistance tests. They believe that human po op could do this too!
( )26. What are the scientists working on
A. Using poop to help make bricks.
B. Keeping carbon dioxide inside bricks.
C. Building clean houses without poop.
D. Keeping pollution outside the house.
( )27. What will happen if scientists add 35 per cent of sludge to bricks
A. The bricks will turn into sludge.
B. There will be no silicon in bricks.
C. The bricks will be too soft to build houses.
D. The bricks will be too strong to build houses.
( )28. What does the underlined word“They” refer to
Germs. B. Bricks. C. Houses. D. People.
( )29. Why can cow dung help make houses water-resistant
A. Because it is rich in calcium. B. Because it has fatty acids.
C. Because it is stronger than bricks. D. Because it is cheaper than bricks.
( )30.语言能力归纳能力 What is the passage mainly about
A. How scientists cut down pollution.
B. What scientists need to make bricks.
C. When we can build our houses greenly.
D. Why it is good to use po op to build houses.

A few years after Dad died, my 82-year-old mum moved away from the family farm near Almonte into her first apartment, which meant it would be easier for her to shop for daily goods. We were also worried that she was living alone and hoped this move would really widen her social circle (社交圈).
As she and I packed her belongings(所有物), Mum shared with me all kinds of stories about her and my dad's life. Her eyes were shining and I listened with great interest.
Then we drove to the town, leaving the unwanted things at Almonte's secondhand store, where they could be resold and the money would go to charity.
A local gentleman, who had bought one of Mum's old suitcases, found a black-and-white negative(底片) in an envelope, with the word“Daddy” written in pencil on the front. Knowing that this film certainly meant something to someone, he took it to the Almonte Gazette, trying to find its rightful owner through the newspaper.
A week later, a big photo of my dad appeared in our local paper, with a story to accompany it.Readers responded immediately; they knew“Daddy” well— it was their uncle, brother-in-law, neighbour, friend, favourite bus driver…
So Mum and I went to the Almonte Gazette right away to claim our film. We thanked the staff and also called the editor to express our heartfelt thanks for reuniting(重逢) Mum, Daddy and me.
What a warming act! It meant the world to us. Mum finally moved into a nursing home. She passed away in November 2018, at 98, and until then hardly a day went by that she did not look at, in her word, “that famous picture of Daddy”, on her bedside table.

( )32. How did the negative of Daddy return to the family
The owner of the secondhand store found it among those unwanted things.
B. A man got it in the writer's mum's suitcase and handed it back to them in person.
C. The local newspaper published(刊登) Daddy's photo to look for its owner.
D. Some readers called the Almonte Gazette and asked to return the film.
( )33. The underlined word“claim” in Paragraph 6 probably means“_______”.
A. shoot up B. ask for C. clear up D. take down

Just then Stapleton comes back. “This is my sister, Beryl, Dr Watson. Come and see our home, Merripit House.”
Inside the house the rooms are large and elegant(讲究的). We have tea and Mr Stapleton tells me that he was a teacher in the north of England before moving here. But when I look out the window at the grey moor(荒野) outside, I feel strangely sad. I think of the place, the dangerous mud, the strange sound and Miss Stapleton's warming(警告). They invite me to stay for lunch but I decide to return to Sir Henry.
On the way back I am surprised to see Miss Stapleton sitting on a rock by the side of the path.
